POPSShelley One of my favourite poems. Think of it every time I pass by ruins of Mughal splendour in Delhi. Nothing remains bu enamel and stones, the nest of pigeons and parrots.

POPSEmergency! Congress Debates Burying the Goldstone Report! "TELL CONGRESS TO RESPECT US AND INTERNATIONAL LAW!" "What message are we sending to the rest of the world when we grant Israel complete impunity? This legislation has very important implications beyond the war crimes committed in Gaza. Israel has responded to the report by demanding the Western powers rewrite international and US law, warning that acceptance of the Goldstone report will mean that the US’ military campaigns in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan will be subject to similar scrutiny. (Judge Goldstone has drawn a distinction – stating that his report finds that Israel deliberately targeted civilians). This legislation also ignores serious allegations that Israel has violated the US Arms Export Control Act."

POPSRep. Massa Attacks Wind Farm Stimulus Funding (VIDEO) Cohocton Town Supervisor Zigenfus parrots the same lies as the wind developers. Where are all those jobs? Coming from constant repairs to a project that does not work to produce any meaningful energy! As for the money, how much went in the Zigenfus pocket?

POPSSnowball The Dancing Cockatoo (Scary) This cockatoo is something else. He dances to the rhythm of the beat like any well coordinated human being with the talent of dance. Watching this bird get down makes you wonder what is going on in that tiny little brain of his. There definitely is someone home. Scientist are baffled by this... see more at this site: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=103629651&sc=emaf and http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8027379.stm original video on Youtube below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYMBIGTteWA

POPSCHLAMYDIOSIS (PARROT FEVER) IN BIRDS. 1929-1930 Psittacosis refers to clinical disease associated with Chlamydia psittaci in a bird of the order psittaciformes or parrots. Ornithosis is clinical disease in birds other than parrots. The preferred term is Psittacosis rather than Ornithosis.

POPSScientists Say Some Animals "Dance" to a Musical Beat To cast a wider net in the animal kingdom, Schachner and colleagues searched YouTube for videos of dancing animals. Out of about 1,000 such videos, they found 49 that appeared worthy of a detailed analysis; 33 videos showed convincing evidence of animals following a musical beat.

POPSObama to Adopt Neocon's "Multiple War" Policy Blueprint
The first clips reveal Obama's new policy, to which Robert Gates gives evidence, and the American Enterprise Institute (arm of the Israeli Lobby) confidently announces (as if they run the Obama administration). This was the exact blueprint of the neonconservative think tank, Project for a New American Century --who ran the Bush administration's foreign policy from within--and is proven by their own infamous document (clip 3) called Rebuilding America's Defenses, which the policy parrots: LARGE WARS...the United States must retain sufficient forces able to rapidly deploy and win multiple simultaneous large-scale wars and also to be able to respond to unanticipated contingencies in regions where it does not maintain forward-based forces. This resembles the “two-war” standard that has been the basis of U.S. force planning over the past decade. Yet this standard needs to be updated to account for new realities and potential new conflicts

POPSFoxNews parrots GOP talking points, errors and all Nailed by MediaMatters (who noticed the same date typo in a GOP memo) for making it look like reading GOP memo was an actual news analysis. FoxNews apologizes for the date error, not for presenting GOP talking points as their own "thought."

POPShttp://ecoworldly.com/2009/01/25/smuggler-caught-with-heads-of-353-african-gray-parrots/ Between 1994 & 2003 more than 450 000 parrots were captured and exported under controls that required a permit from a national authority to certify that the export was not detrimental to the species in the wild. However, this trade along with illegal capturing, exceeding of quotas and other demands resulted in considerable stress on the African Grey populations. As a result and following investigation, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) recommended zero export quotas for several range states and decided to develop regional management plans for the species. In particular it recommended a two-year ban on the export of African Grey Parrots from Cameroon. It is interesting that the United States and the EU have banned the import of wild caught parrots since 1992 and 2007 respectively

POPSThink Animals Don't Think Like Us? Think Again "By implication, a vast world of animal cognition exists out there, not just in African Grey parrots but in other creatures, too. It is a world largely untapped by science. Clearly, animals know more than we think, and think a great deal more than we know. That, essentially, was what Alex (and a growing number of research projects) taught us. He taught us that our vanity had blinded us to the true nature of minds, animal and human; that so much more is to be learned about animal minds than received doctrine allowed. No wonder Alex and I faced so much flak!" From Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot Discovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence—and Formed a Deep Bond in the Process, by Irene Pepperberg.

POPSStop the Trade This subject is so distasteful, I really don't want to comment on it, but I feel that I must say something.*Go to the website to view these* Watch the videos, decide what you think you should do to stop this barbaric practice. And yes American money is involved. Maybe these creatures would be safer locked up in a zoo.
