H1N1 (Swine 'Flu) overhyped
darkeforce
by darkeforce  11-6-2009    2
After an otherwise healthy 13-year-old boy died of a H1N1 infection, demand for the vaccine jump drastically after the heavy media attention what was given to a horribly tragic, but still singular death from H1N1. Clinics were forced to shut down due to lack of supplies, and people who really should have gotten the vaccine first (like young children, pregnant mothers and seniors) lost out. H1N1 Influenza is a mere fraction of the virility of normal seasonal 'flu, and has fewer serious cases and deaths than seasonal 'flu. The normal, sensible steps you take to avoid getting the 'flu every year will work as well for H1N1. Yes, it looks serious when the media focuses on individual deaths from H1N1, but such coverage is deceptive. A few hundred deaths, Canada-side from H1N1 is tragic, but seasonal 'flu will claim several thousand, as it does every year. Just keep some perspective. Be aware; be mindful, but don't be scared. Think sensibly.

Shhhh! Census Worker May Have Committed Suicide
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  11-6-2009    4
  * The Democratic Underground quickly posted a ‘Handy Guide to how Republicans and Fox News are responsible for Census worker being hanged'. * Rachel Maddow suggested Sparkman was killed simply because ‘he was a federal employee'. * Time chalked it up to government distrust, a sentiment fanned by ‘talk media, tea parties and white-hot town-hall meetings'. * The Huffington Post immediately assumed this was a case of right-wing paranoia. * True/Slant opined that the body of Sparkman should be shipped to Glenn Beck. * Think Progress pointed the finger at Michelle Bachman and her ‘inflammatory and fear-mongering rhetoric against the Census'. * New York Magazine linked the death to that of ‘some wide-eyed, hysterical woman' named Michelle Bachman. (The irony in this is that the reference to a wide-eyed, hysterical woman was made in an article mentioning Nancy Pelosi).

Just Say Yes
darkeforce
by darkeforce  10-28-2009
A healthy 13-year-old boy died today in Toronto from the H1N1 influenza virus. While H1N1 still causes severe reactions and death in significantly fewer cases than seasonal influenza, it can still kill, like any case of influenza. There's no good reason to refuse the vaccine (just paranoia and hype), and plenty of good reasons to get it. If a family's perfectly healthy, 13-year-old can go from mild symptoms to dead within 48hs, it can happen to anyone. Don't be scared; don't panic, but take reasonable precautions. That includes getting the vaccine as soon as it's available. Don't let the conspiracy theorists scare you away!

"No Shot" Wackos
darkeforce
by darkeforce  10-25-2009
If you had something that's proven to prevent disease and suffering, you'd get it for the people you love the most — your children, wouldn't you? But suddenly, a bunch of cranks start saying its some kind of government plot, and people buy it, putting themselves, their children and everyone they come into contact with in danger? That's just stupid... dangerously stupid. The exact same technology and techniques that are protecting your children from diseases like polio and whooping cough are in those 'flu vaccines. It isn't anything new or dangerous, so get over your paranoia already... especially since the government is offering the shots for free! So leave your paranoia and conspiracy theories at home, and protect the people you care about. Get the inoculations, and stop being silly.

US Press Freedom Improves
sahara
by sahara  10-21-2009
At the bottom of the list were Turkmenistan, North Korea and Eritrea "where media are so suppressed they are nonexistent," said Reporters Without Borders. Iran dropped to No. 172 from No. 166, with Reporters Without Borders saying the disputed reelection of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had fostered a paranoia about journalists and bloggers. "Automatic prior censorship, state surveillance of journalists, mistreatment, journalists forced to flee the country, illegal arrests and imprisonment -- such is the state of press freedom this year in Iran," the group said. The ranking was compiled from hundreds of questionnaires completed by journalists and media experts around the world and reflecting press freedom violations that took place between Sept. 1, 2008 and Aug. 31, 2009. The complete ranking can be seen at www.rsf.org/en-classement1003-2009.html Read more at source.

Now Pakistan - Sequential Destruction of Muslim Nations
JackieDel
by JackieDel  10-21-2009    1
Many Western policymakers rarely see Muslim nations, including allies, with any inherent respect. Vice President Dick Cheney described the Muslim world as "brute and nasty." Obama advisers, though more guarded in their word choices, see Muslim nations no differently. The idea that Islam is inherently violent, openly expressed during the Bush administration, continues to animate foreign policy. The White House holds a new President but Congressional leadership and Washington policymakers are more or less the same. Anti-Islamic policies of warfare and destabilization are intact.

Ready to Revolt: Oath Keepers pledge to prevent dictatorship in U.S.
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  10-20-2009    2
They are armed and promise to keep the oath they took to protect the Constitution. Founder Stece Rhoades: "We say if the American people decide it's time for a revolution, we'll fight with you." That type of rhetoric has caught the attention of groups that track extremist activity in the United States. In a July report titled "Return of the Militias," the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center singled out Oath Keepers as "a particularly worrisome example of the Patriot revival." SPLC now monitors Oath Keepers on its Web site blog "Hatewatch." Oath Keepers is not preaching violence or government overthrow, Rhodes said. On the contrary, it is asking police and the military to lay down their arms in response to unlawful orders. Group supporters compare President Obama's America to Adolf Hitler's Germany. They also liken Obama to England's King George III during the American Revolution. One member calls Obama "the domestic enemy the Constitution is talking about."

Lyrics: The paranoia is in bloom, the PR The transmissions will resume They'll try to push drugs Keep us all dumbed down and hope that We will never see the truth around (So come on!) Another promise, another scene, another A package not to keep us trapped in greed With all the green belts wrapped around our minds And endless red tape to keep the truth confined (So come on!) Chorus They will not force us They will stop degrading us They will not control us We will be victorious Interchanging mind control Come let the revolution take its toll if you could Flick the switch and open your third eye, you'd see that We should never be afraid to die (So come on!) Rise up and take the power back, it's time that The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that Their time is coming to an end We have to unify and watch our flag ascend Chorus They will not force us They will stop degrading us They will not control us We will be Victorious

Setting Up Temp.Census Workers For Murder
mcsmithblack
by mcsmithblack  9-26-2009
In 1999, I was hired as a temp to do census work through the state employment commission. Back then, the news media riled up the people by saying that scam artists were preying on senior citizens by posing as census workers. Made my little temp job somewhat dangerous as well as a major pain in the tookus. Well, here they go again... And, mind you, a U.S census, every 10 years is required per the Constitution. So, yeah. I hold the media, the exposure-hungry "conservative" loudmouths AND the hands-on murderer(s) responsible for Sparkman's death. The old folks say that if you lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas.

A Brief History of American Racism
foxyarse
by foxyarse  9-17-2009    13
In 1882 President Arthur signed into federal law the Chinese Exclusion Act. Chinese immigrant labor was the infrastructure backbone of the 19th century California Gold Rush, but by the 1880s a significant economic downturn increased competition and turned up animosity. Fueled by scarcity-stoked fear, nativists pushed an anti-immigration agenda, culminating in the 1882 Act that excluded Chinese workers from entering the United States. In 1943 this act was repealed. My Czars are Bigger than Your Czars
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  9-17-2009    1
Staying in the fast lane, right-wing nut jobs have dived into the non-issue of how many "czars," does the President have. Of course, to understand the Republican wing nuts one must sign onto a lot of flights of paranoia and fantasy: The U.S. doesn't have any post called a "czar." So...if trying to fill in the pot holes in their Republican smear campaign heads...they must mean "middle management positions," or something like that. Even worse, if trying to find a flake of facts in these right wing rants, the truth turns out to be like jackass and jerk, "Got It Wrong Congressman Wilson," who LIED when he called the President a liar, it turns out that George Bush had more "czars," that Obama, as this video concludes. I.E. - The Bush Era has more middle managers....or whatever the heck the wing nuts think of as "czars." Their Alice-in-Wonderland smear circus is like a dog chasing its own tail.

Meet the man who changed Glenn Beck's life

How did Skousen become an expert on communism? He claimed, as his apologists still do, that his years with the FBI exposed him to inside information. He also boasted that he worked closely with J. Edgar Hoover. But both claims are open to question. Skousen's work at the Bureau was largely administrative, according to Ernie Lazar, an independent researcher of the far right who has examined Skousen's nearly 2,000-page FBI file. "Skousen never worked in and he never had significant exposure to data concerning communist matters," says Lazar. Skousen also trumpeted the insight he says he gained researching "The Naked Communist." But this research was as shaky as his résumé. Among the theories Skousen charged a healthy fee to discuss was the alleged treason of FDR advisor Harry Hopkins. According to Skousen, Hopkins gave the Soviets "50 suitcases" worth of info on the Manhattan Project, along with nearly half of the nation's supply of enriched uranium.

The Blackening of the president
ratilfar
by ratilfar  9-14-2009    3
Obama's white support trended slowly downward throughout the summer in the weekly Gallup poll, but took another relatively large (4 point) drop between July 19 and July 26, a fiery week that saw the arrest of Skip Gates, Obama's comment that Cambridge police acted "stupidly" in that incident, followed by Obama's "recalibration" of those words. I said at the time that Obama's commenting on the Gates mess was a mistake, even if it was a completely understandable one. Replying reflexively, as a victim of racial profiling, Obama was sincere -- but in that moment, there's no denying, he got blacker to a segment of the white population. That same crazy week also featured the rise of Birtherism as represented by a screaming woman interrupting moderate GOP Rep. Mike Castle's town hall claiming Obama wasn't born in the U.S. It was a harbinger: August brought a wave of frenzied anti-Obama organizing at raucous meetings -- what a Republican fundraising group proudly labeled "town hells" -- whe

The World of Paranoia Is In Our Faces Everyday & We Think It Is Protection
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  9-14-2009    1
Just tonight one of the people who attend my classes spoke about how Mercurochrome is now banded in Australia - because it is deemed to be too dangerous due to the mercury and yet, I know people who are now well into their nineties and besides a bit of physical frailty are bright, sprightly and healthy. There is a point, where caution simply just turns to paranoia - I really reckon the world is much tooooo paranoid about all the things that can go wrong and hence we inhibit, not just our own, but everyone else's freedom in the process. We are all going to die and whilst I choose to create optimum wellness at any given moment in time. I really can no longer be bothered with filling my head with all the things that can go wrong because of all the rules, regulations, stories (fact or fiction) that fill my head on a daily basis. My life IS - short or long it matters not - less intellect more heart - it is as beautiful as this little video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE-ML-B
