POPSMore Obama Nuttiness – CIA Spying on Icebergs and Polar Bears Since CIA satellite data is secret, those opposing the Cap and Trade Tax and anthropomorphic climate change may have no access to any data quoted by the Democrats. The article by William J. Broad went on to say, Secrecy cloaks the monitoring effort, as well as the nation’s intelligence work, because the United States wants to keep foes and potential enemies in the dark about the abilities of its spy satellites and other sensors. The images that the scientific group has had declassified, for instance, have had their sharpness reduced to hide the abilities of the reconnaissance satellites. Controversy has often dogged the use of federal intelligence gear for environmental monitoring. In October, days after the C.I.A. opened a small unit to assess the security implications of climate change, Senator John Barrasso, Republican of Wyoming, Has President Obama reassigned CIA assets .....

POPSBlackwater’s Erik Prince to step down, reveals CIA role Later, news reports emerged alleging that Blackwater, which recently renamed itself Xe Services, was involved in the program which sought to assassinate high-value terrorist targets. Prince "confesses to feeling betrayed," Vanity Fair reports. Prince told Ciralsky that he was engaged in work for the CIA "up until two months ago—when Prince says the Obama administration pulled the plug." That would seem to confirm recent news reports that the Obama administration was using Blackwater for assassinations in Pakistan. Prince also told Ciralsky he plans to step down as chairman and CEO of Blackwater -- a move Ciralsky reports has started a "power struggle" within the company over who will succeed its founder. “I’m through,” Prince told Vanity Fair. “I’m going to teach high school. ... History and economics. I may even coach wrestling. Hey, Indiana Jones taught school, too.”

POPSObama to Meet High-Powered Aides for Afghan Review
were the top ranking civilian officials expected for a bracing session on a war some supporters fear could swamp Obama's presidency. War commander General Stanley McChrystal, who warned in a leaked report that the conflict could be lost within a year without more troops, was also due to to take part, either in person or by video link-up, the White House said. Other top military brass included were General David Petraeus who heads US central command, Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director of National Intelligence Admiral Dennis Blair. CIA chief Leon Panetta was also due to take part, along with Richard Holbrooke, the US envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as the US ambassadors to Islamabad and Kabul. Obama warned after meeting NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Tuesday that the United States could not fight the battle in Afghanistan alone, in remarks apparently aimed at European partners.

POPSPresident Obama's Aggressive Investigation of the CIA "The United States' intelligence community is undergoing the most extensive " perhaps even radical " transformations since the Office of Strategic Services gave way to the Central Intelligence Agency," said Det. Frances. CIA morale hits new low due to Obama Administration threats "Recognizing that people are the critical element in transformation initiatives is key to a successful transformation of the intelligence community and related homeland security organizations. However, an agency headed by a politically motivated party hack is a dangerous thing for the American people," political strategist Mike Baker said. The CIA is responsible for coordinating US counterintelligence activities abroad. Each of the military departments also has a counterintelligence element that operates domestically and overseas. "Historically, intelligence agencies have not performed this crucial function very well.

POPS The Fall Guy
True, the president showed up at the CIA a few days later to reassure Mr. Panetta's demoralized troops. Don't "be discouraged" that you've "made mistakes," the president said, smiling, as Mr. Panetta stood grimly by. "That's how we learn." Mr. Obama vowed to be "vigorous in protecting" the organization. Later, at the White House, he announced plans to release photos showing detainee abuse"at the demand of the ACLU. Then came House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's full-frontal assault, claiming the agency had lied to her about waterboarding. This would have been an excellent time for some "vigorous" protection of the CIA, since agency documents flatly contradict the speaker. But with his domestic agenda in the hands of Congress, the White House was mum. It showed equal interest in defending Mr. Panetta against the threat of congressional investigations. This week the White House visited on the CIA director what ranking Senate Intelligence Committee member Kit Bond declared a "hat trick"

POPSLeon Panetta Should Be Fired If CIA Director Leon Panetta cannot accept that it's a proper role of the Department of Justice to investigate and, if necessary, prosecute anyone in the CIA for possibly breaking federal laws against torture, then he should be removed from his job. He should be fired. His primary duty is NOT to give cover to potential criminals within the CIA but to help in upholding the law.

POPSWhite House Denies Claim That Panetta Threatened to Quit But a White House spokesman told the Web site that claims Panetta threatened to leave are "inaccurate." A CIA spokesman also said Panetta does not have plans to quit. The reports of friction between the agency and the White House come as the Department of Justice is set to release a report on alleged prisoner abuse. Panetta wrote a memo to staff Monday lamenting the release of the report and saying it's his job to defend all those in the CIA who followed the interrogation guidance they were given.

POPSCIA director issues a warning to Congress Torture, assassination and arbitrary detention are violations of both US and international law for which no one responsible has paid any price. The argument made by Panetta boils down to the defense made infamous during the Nuremberg war crimes trials at the close of World War II: “We were only following orders.

POPSCIA Assassin Program Could Operate Anywhere The finding imposed no geographical limitations on the agency's actions, and intelligence officials have said that they were not obliged to notify Congress of each operation envisaged under the directive. "No geographical limitations" presumably means that operations could potentially be carried out in countries, friendly or unfriendly, that are far from any war zone -- including even the US itself. And it seems likely that they would be carried out without notifying the foreign country in question.

POPSFirst Investigation of Cheney to Begin!
The noose around the neck of these war criminals has been tighten and the pressure of thousands of activist and sympathetic politicians has finally paid off: Former U.S. VP Dick Cheney will be investigated. That means subpoenas, that means other info from witnesses maybe coming out - that means the house of cards of the wanna be fascist Bush Administration is now starting to officially crumble. This one issue could lead to other issues and Other Issues now more likely, I think, (issues like torture and beating POWs to death in their cells) -- these more likely to also be investigated -- and the issue of corrupting the justice dept. for political selective prosecutions also appears high on the agenda. Not seeking vengence but I feel we need to set precedent....no man (or woman) is above the law...when you violate the Constitution you will pay a price...when you mislead a nation into war with deliberately fabricated lies you will pay a penality. We need this precedent.

POPSAnger Over CIA Flap Is Misplaced
Congress, in the spirit of broad patriotic bipartisan righteousness, authorized the use of force on al-Qaida after it killed 3,000 Americans on Sept. 11, 2001. Now we find out that the CIA lacked the competence or will to hunt down and kill men desperately in need of killing. And it's worse than that. Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein and others make it sound like some rogue conspiracy was afoot "We were kept in the dark," complained Feinstein. "That's something that should never, ever happen again. Withholding such information from Congress "is a big problem because the law is very clear." But in the fall of 2001, Bush issued an executive finding authorizing covert counterterrorism measures. Congress was briefed on that. Even a cursory reading of the public record at the time shows that Congress was nothing but supportive of the effort to take the fight to the enemy. All Cheney is being accused of is that he may have told the CIA not to brief Congress on its methods

POPSBig Hush-Hush Secret: U.S. Plotted To Kill AQ Leaders
In fact, when the U.S. military blew up Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and the CIA started lobbing Hellfires into Yemen and Waziristan, I thought that was the basic idea. Kill al-Qaeda leaders. It’s not like they’re the legitimate vile dictators of a legitimate vile enemy state like, I dunno, Nazi Germany, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Islamic Republic Iran or Baathist Iraq … where you’ll recall the United States specifically did try to drop missiles on Saddam’s head. Something’s not right here. Better read on … The official noted that Congress had long been briefed on the finding, and that the CIA effort wasn’t so much a program as “many ideas suggested over the course of years.” It hadn’t come close to fruition, he added. Michigan Rep. Pete Hoekstra, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said little had been spent on the efforts " closer to $1 million than $50 million. “The idea for this kind of program was tossed around in fits and starts,” he said.

POPSCheney broke the law with CIA program Panetta's subordinates told him about the program on June 23, and he briefed two intelligence committees the following day, the Times reported. Under the National Security Act of 1947, the U.S. president must ensure the intelligence committees are informed about "intelligence activities in the United States, including any significant anticipated intelligence activity." However, the Act also stipulates briefings should be held "to the extent consistent with due regard for the protection from unauthorized disclosure of classified information relating to sensitive intelligence sources and methods or other exceptionally sensitive matters." Feinstein said the law shows Congress should have been told about the program, and the Bush administration's failure to do so "is a big problem." It's unclear how U.S. President Barack Obama will address the issue. Since taking office, he has been reluctant to uncover any alleged wrongdoing by the Bush administration.

POPSCheney kept CIA Program from Congress Good for Cheney! If you have an effective secret program in wartime, the best way to compromise it's secrecy, and endanger Americans, is to tell the anti-American democrats in Congress

POPScheney is linked to concealment of C.I.A Project no shock and awe on this one- find it rather strange- Cheney who no one could get off their television sets just a short time ago-is now? somehow mysteriously unavailable for comment- yeah- and the check is in the mail

POPSHouse Democrats Play Politics With National Security to Protect Pelosi
About that CIA 'Lie' On June 24, in a classified hearing, Mr. Panetta produced so-called new information about CIA counter-terrorism efforts in the months after the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center. We’re told that he informed the Members that the agency had considered, then abandoned, a major covert anti-terror program. (Our sources wouldn’t say what it was.) Bush-era CIA officials didn’t tell Congress because it never got off the ground. But this is the “at least one case” Mr. Reyes claims his committee was “lied to” about in the Bush years. There’s apparently no limit to how far Speaker Pelosi’s friends on the Hill are willing to go to salvage her reputation. The intentions are transparent enough. The Reyes letter was addressed to Peter Hoekstra, the ranking Republican on Intelligence. Mr. Hoekstra yesterday said the media received the missive before he did. And two days after the Panetta testimony last month,

POPSAccusations Pile Up Over Panetta CIA Briefing Pelosi took a political beating over the accusation, and they want Panetta to vindicate her by admitting her claim was actually true. Panetta aides said he stands by the May 15 statement, in which he said the CIA has always been truthful congress. Intelligence Committee Chairman Sylvestre Reyes, D-Texas, said he may call for a committee investigation into the matter. Pelosi told reporters she is leaving is not getting personally involved in deciding whether to investigate the matter. "I'm sure they will be pursuing this in their regular committee process and that's the way it will go," she said. In the meantime, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Pelosi is the one who should be investigated for accusing the CIA of lying.

POPSPanetta Testimony Likely Hurts Pelosi Thursday, July 9 By leaking a letter addressing only generalized accusations, the Democratic Congressmen get the best of all worlds; they get to underhandedly accuse the CIA of lying to Congress, without having such accusations tested because the substance is classified. They also give their Speaker some ammunition with which to defend herself, and avoid this question: Why would Panetta confidentially disclose that some programs or information were withheld (assuming that such characterization of the testimony is accurate), but be willing to state publicly that Pelosi was not misled on interrogations? Until we learn more about the testimony, we cannot say for sure, but as of now, it appears that Panetta is standing by his prior public statement that Congress, including Pelosi, was not misled as to interrogation techniques, even if Congress allegedly was misled as to some other issue.

POPSCIA said/didn't say xxx about ???, Dems demand
A "hot topic," dispute has been floating around the mainstream news, perhaps as dangerous as the tip of an iceberg to our Titanic ship of state....if we ever find out what it's about. The Brits are scheduled to have another investitation into the lies used to mislead nations into the Iraq war but I understand it's going to be a Secret Hearing. Some Brits protest this and I urge them on even more. This current USA brouhaha about what our current CIA Director said....or what he's alleged to have said....which is now denied by CIA PR official...about a topic that can not be revealed, apparently indicating there was some CIA misleading...but which is also now denied, all about something nobody knows.... It does remind one of the classic: "Who's on First," comedy skit (some baseball familiarity useful)...but the essential idea is not knowing what is being talked about because all the answers are questions, lack of info and timeline confusion. What? you might ask, is going on?

POPSAl Franken Wins Election In Iran Senator John McCain responded to the allegations of CIA interference by stating, "This result has nothing to do with the CIA and everything to do with a dysfunctional federal bureaucracy. How an American comedian contesting a Senate seat ends up President of Iran speaks volumes to the inefficiency of the Federal government. Perhaps it's time to burn all of out institutions down and start from scratch again. Call it 'shock and awe' or something." McCain finished by saying, "Of course all this could have been avoided if the legislative branch had allowed us six months ago to nuke Iran."
