POPSNakba(h) day in pictures It was a day of grief for Palestinians, who refer to the founding of Israel as the Catastrophe, or al-Nakba. Thousands took to the streets to commemorate those exiled or killed in the conflict that followed the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. More than 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled, their property was expropriated and they have not been allowed to return. Nearly 5 million Palestinians and their descendants still live in makeshift refugee camps across the neighbouring region.

POPSCatastrophe. - Bush? Iraq? Palestine? Israel? Well, he's being wrong on everything for 7 years, why should he change now? Why does this simple statement not penetrate the brains of those fanatics that followed his every word only to find they were lying deceitful devil words? Why should those that no longer believe in WMD for their service persons deaths, still cling to his crap about Iran, Hamas, Hizbollah etc. When was he truthful? Is he the devil? Sorry if I've asked difficult questions of the very few who are not used to thinking for themselves. Where can they look now that the emperor has NO clothes al all. POW McCain? A WOMAN? A BLACK? Ask the pastor who said Bush? Mental meltdown! Brain seizure from lack of use!

POPS"Forget a two-state solution" Palestinians must have right of return and Jewish presence in occupied territories grows 3X faster than Israel itself. The mix is here to stay. Only a single, democratic, secular, multi-cultural state can protect the rights of all.

POPSClemens Messerschmid (2003): Palästinas Wasserressourcen und Israels Trennmauer Much to my regret, I did not find an English translation of the hydrogeologist Clemens Messerschmid's essay on the disastrous impacts the Israeli "security fence" makes on the Palestinian infrastructure, especially the water supply. It might be that Messerschmid's paper "TILL THE LAST DROP - The Palestinian Water Crisis in the West Bank, Hydrogeology and Hydropolitics of a Regional Conflict" is of correlative content. It is available at http://www.palestineacademy.org/wconf/ (see the abstracts on http://www.palestineacademy.org/wconf/Abstracts.pdf). Messerschmid is working in several international water projects in the West Bank, currently in the position of Research & Coordination Advisor to the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) for the Project "The Sustainable Management of the West Bank and Gaza Aquifers" (SUSMAQ) of University of Newcastle and PWA. POPSWater Policy in Israel and Palestine - There's Enough Water for Both The increasing difficulties with water availability, concludes the hydrogeologist, result from Israel using the majority of water resources for agricultural purposes, although this sector today represents a very small portion of the Israeli economy. Despite this, the Israeli state remains unswervingly committed to the Zionist foundation myth, which regards the promotion of agriculture as a central tenet in the Jewish settlement of Palestine. Messerschmid, in turn, sees the priorities of Israeli water policies as fundamentally flawed, leading to a wasteful use of the precious resource. Large areas of land, for instance, are still intensively watered even during conditions of very high temperatures, although most of the water immediately evaporates. The Palestinians, by contrast, do not even have the amount of water at their disposal that was promised in the Israeli-Palestinian peace treaty. Deutsche Fassung

POPSPalestinian 'Anti-semitism" An intelligent, thorough article. Cuts through simplistic rhetorical claims by extremists, suggests how what modern antisemitism there is among Palestinians is a European import, and reminds us of the shocking history of European antisemitism over a millennium,

POPS"West Bank Story" - a better world for a term of 21 minutes West Bank Story is an Academy Award-winning comedy/musical short film, directed by Ari Sandel. The film is a parody of the classic musical film West Side Story , which in turn is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet . The film follows the romance between the relatives of the owners of rival falafel restaurants, one Israeli and the other Palestinian, in the West Bank. In 2007, at the 79th Academy Awards, it won the Oscar in the category Best Live Action Short Film. POPSARAB-ISRAELI CONFLICT AT HEART OF MID-EAST PROBLEMS
Well, the truth is out! Should the United States continue to support (along with Israel) a blockade on food, etc. to the starving displaced people of Palestine or not? Or should we finally "recognize" that the Palestinians would "recognize" Israel's right to exist if Israel would "recognize" Palestine's right to exist? After all, they already do exist! In fact, Palestine existed for approximately 2000 yrs. before 1948 when they were suddenly displaced. And what about that 1967 border? It went right through the middle of Jerusalem, giving Israel the west side (West Bank) and Palestine the east side (East Bank). Maybe both sides should realize that compromize is the way to go. There will NEVER be peace unless someone gives in on that issue and I have a feeling it won't be the Arabs. And what about what is best for the citizens of the U.S.? Shouldn't we think of ourselves? Shouldn't we do anything possible to encourage good U.S.-Arab relations? Or should we just keep on dying?

POPSRashid Khalidi on the New Palestinian Narrative Now, Khalidi has picked up the tools of his trade -- history -- to ask why the Palestinians have ended up without an independent state of their own. History is a minefield in the Middle East -- a battleground itself. This is Palestinian history -- tough on a people's adversaries, and tough on Palestinians themselves. A search in the past for clues to the future.
