Nineteen Eighty-Four
katsteevns
by katsteevns  12-29-2009    2
As literary science fiction, 1984 is a classic novel of the social science fiction sub-genre, thus, since its publication in 1949, the terms and concepts of Big Brother, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, et cetera, became contemporary vernacular, including the adjective Orwellian, denoting George Orwell's writings and totalitarianism as exposited in Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm (1945).

The First 12 Months of Obama Captivity 12.28.2009
merrie
by merrie  12-28-2009    3
 1. With their bogus jobs' and economy "stimulus packages," Obama and the US Congress continue to bleed the American people dry of all of their money and resources. In actual fact, the actions from Obama show that he has followed and is following the advice of one of his mentors, Saul Alinsky, in destroying the US middle-class by destroying its private sector companies and, therefore, its jobs. Forget about these jobs coming back, folks. As predicted, unemployment rates have risen and will continue to rise. The mission of The Obama is to destroy all that is the USA. As I wrote when the first stimulus package was announced, and other well-known entities have since picked up on it, it was created and is now being used as, yet, another Marxist-Democrat slush fund. 2. On 17 December 2009 with Executive Order 12425, Barack Hussein Obama gave foreign police force INTERPOL immunity from Congressional action and the US Constitution's Fourth Amendment

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions". In 1984, Huxley added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure.

Barack W. Bush--Obama's "Preventive War" in Afghanistan, Neocons Applaud
blueridge
by blueridge  12-2-2009    4
Obushma's Afghanistan war policy--the BUSH DOCTRINE CONTINUES. The word "terrorism" was hardly invoked, but "essential for our national interests....and attacks on our HOMELAND" implied the same thing. It's still all about the 9/11, and only the rhetoric has changed slightly. But this war is not about "national interests", but International (Globalist) interests. Obama is a Puppet for the globalist agenda as much as Bush was to the neoconservative agenda for "global hegemony". See Rachel Maddow's MSNBC video analysis about Obama's Nobel Peace Prize and proof that the Bush Doctrine continues. Powerful analysis. The real purpose of Af-Pak war policy is here .

Brits Could Be Given a Personal 'Carbon Allowance'
merrie
by merrie  11-13-2009    1
If their "carbon account" hits zero, they would have to pay to get more credits. Those who are frugal with their carbon usage will be able to sell their unused credits and make a profit. Lord Smith will call for the scheme to be part of a "Green New Deal" to be introduced within 20 years when he addresses the agency's annual conference on Monday. An Environment Agency spokesman said only those with "extravagant lifestyles" would be affected by the carbon allowances. He said: "A lot of people who cycle will get money back. It will probably only be bankers and those with extravagant lifestyles who would lose out." However, some have criticised the move as "Orwellian" and say it will have a detrimental impact on business. Ruth Lea, an economist from Arbuthnot Banking Group, told the Daily Mail: "This is all about control of the individual and you begin to wonder whether this is what the green agenda has always been about. It's Orwellian.

from staunch critics of illegal immigration. Open-borders groups have sought to marginalize, criminalize, and demonize those of us who have raised our voices for years about lax immigration enforcement " and to impose an Orwellian Fairness Doctrine-style policy on illegal alien amnesty opponents. During the presidential campaign, the National Council of La Raza launched a “We Can Stop the Hate” project to redefine tough policy criticism from the Right as “hate.” Unsurprisingly, far Left billionaire George Soros’s money is backing the “So We Might See”/National Hispanic Media Coalition effort. And remember that the Soros-funded Center for American Progress has provided the Obama White House with its Fairness Doctrine-embracing “diversity czar,” Mark Lloyd. Jeffrey Lord, who happens to belong to the United Church of Christ, reported in the American Spectator that not long after that speech, the UCC sent out a mass e-mail to its millions of members urging them.......

The Sell-Phone Revolution
merrie
by merrie  9-27-2009
Already, mobile services use area codes, Zip Codes, and even Global Positioning System (GPS) data to return results for nearby businesses in response to a search for, say, coffee shops. The next step is to serve an ad for a steaming cup of java on a mobile Web page just as the cell-phone Web surfer is passing a Starbucks (SBUX ). Within five years, online ad networks such as TACODA and Specific Media Inc. plan to apply behavioral techniques"using surfing data"to target ads to broadband-enabled digital television. It's not hard to imagine the day when multiple TVs tuned to the same channel in the same household will serve up different ads. "There is no question behavioral targeting will be a major component of television," says Dave Morgan, TACODA's founder and chairman. I saw a group of cyclists being herded down the sidewalk. A cop reached out and pushed a woman on a bike. She turned around and pushed her bike at the cop. Next thing we knew, he grabbed her by the face and slammed her down on the concrete.'

EU Funding 'Orwellian' Plan to Monitor Public for "Abnormal Behaviour"
thisnamecantbetaken

Profiling whole populations instead of monitoring individual suspects is a sinister step in any society. "It's dangerous enough at national level, but on a Europe-wide scale the idea becomes positively chilling." Open Europe believes intelligence gathered by Indect and other such systems could be used by a little-known body, the EU Joint Situation Centre (SitCen), which it claims is "effectively the beginning of an EU secret service". Critics have said it could develop into "Europe's CIA".

The Politics of Lying
katsteevns
by katsteevns  9-22-2009    2
When lying and deceit become normalized in a culture, they not only serve as an index of how low we have fallen as a literate society, but also demonstrate the degree to which language and education have become corrupted, tied to corporate and political power and sabotaged by rigid ideologies as part of a growing authoritarianism that uses the educational force of the culture, the means of communication and the sites in which information circulate to mobilize ignorance among a misinformed citizenry, all the while supporting reactionary policies. Especially since the horrible events of 9/11, Americans have been encouraged to identify with a militaristic way of life, to suspend their ability to read the word and world critically, to treat corporate and government power in almost religious terms and to view a culture of questioning as something alien and poisonous to American society.

White House Using NEA To Propagandize Obama's Initiatives

It is time for us as a group of artists, producers, promoters, organizers, influencers, marketers, tastemakers, leaders or just plain, cool people to join together...and celebrate how the arts can be used for a positive change! I'm not sure whether the NEA has ever retracted its false claim that it didn't organize the call, but it announced that it was reassigning Sergant--to what, we don't know--and the affair seemingly came to an end, although Patrick Courrielche has continued to post new information at Big Hollywood. You've probably never heard of the White House Office of Public Engagement. It is the former Office of Public Liaison, renamed by the Obama administration. Its stated mission is: Serving as the front door to the White House, OPE will allow ordinary Americans to offer their stories and ideas regarding issues that concern them and share their views on important topics such as health care, energy and education.

Now Why Would a “Diversity Czar” Worry Anyone?

Naturally, these strategies all come complete with the usual, harmless-sounding calls for “diversity” and “community.” Seton Motley, of the conservative Media Research Center, said Lloyd “laid out a battle plan” in a 2007 report for the George Soros-funded progressive think tank, Center for American Progress. According to Motley, Lloyd wanted “the FCC to threaten stations’ licenses with whom they do not agree with politically, and now he’s at the FCC waiting to take their calls. This is not about serving the local interest, it’s about political opposition.” Like I said, start worrying! And get ready to fight! Earlier in the week he used a speech in Washington to claim that the service was a 'Marxist system' and warned Americans to 'ponder our example and tremble'. Insisting he sees the NHS as one of our great national institutions, Mr Cameron accused Mr Hannan of being eccentric. He added: 'No one should be in any doubt, for the Conservative Party, the NHS is our number one priority.'

Opponents of U.S. healthcare reform take on... the U.K.'s National Health Service
enbar
by enbar  8-11-2009    3
This is a good example of what happens when a political culture develops in which true facts no longer matter. In order to discredit the current plans for health-care reform, opponents are trying to tar it with the National Health Service's failures. Only problem is, most of the failures they describe are made up. I kind of like the super-glue story, though. I mean, hell, I pay for a group dental plan through my job, and my wife needs an implant, and I'm seriously considering a second mortgage to pay for it. And I have insurance. Somehow, these supposed British horror stories haven't convinced yet me that our current system is so wonderful that we shouldn't change it. Remember: the U.K. has the 18th-ranked healthcare system in the world; the U.S. has the 37th; and we spend plenty more than they do.

Lanny Davis Wants to “Name Names, Publish Photographs” of the Conservative Mob

Worse of all, he wants to “have the media name names, publish photographs, and do interviews of those responsible…” This comes on the heels of Linda Douglass, Communications Director for the White House’s Health Reform Office, who just this week asked all citizens to report any “fishy” talk, emails or websites to the White House so they can investigate any “disinformation” about healthcare. Here are Orwellian words of Lanny Davis from yesterday, August 5: The “shout downs” organized by the Republican right meet one of the classic definition of “fascist” tactics"defined as using shouting and disruption to deprive the civil and respectful debate of ideas. There is literally no defense to these tactics. I don’t criticize those who feel genuine anger or fear and show up to meetings to express those emotions. But I do call out the tactic of screaming and disrupting a meeting and the fact that this is a systematic tactic by thugs who want to prevent civil discourse, not promote it.

The relevant section on page 16 describes the treatment of currently operating plans that will be grandfathered under the new legislation (Key hint - the section is titled "Grandfathered Health Insurnce Coverage Defined).
