POPSAmerica's regression Pew Poll, today: Public opinion about the use of torture remains divided, though the share saying it can at least sometimes be justified has edged upward over the past year. Currently just over half of Americans say that the use of torture against suspected terrorists in order to gain important information can either often (19%) or sometimes (35%) be justified. This is the first time in over five years of Pew Research polling on this question that a majority has expressed these views. Another 16% say torture can rarely be justified, while 25% say it can never be justified.

POPSPoll: Americans want KSM tried in military court I can't believe that it's not 10-for-10 for the death penalty if found guilty. And yes, most Americans believe these guy will get a fair trial. But how much is this going to cost the taxpayers by having it in a civilian court as opposed to a military one? Are there going to be TV cameras? Every Arab television in the world is going to be tuned in to this circus. And finally, why doesn't the majority opinion rule anymore? and I'm talking about incidences such as this. Obama & Holder had to have made this decision on their own.

POPSNever Take A Poll At Face Value
Polls are tools if you understand them correctly they can give a wealth of insight into an issue. But never take them at face value alone, now what the margin of error means, what the actual questions and answer choices That were used for the poll. For example, I was once asked to participate in an over the phone poll. I was asked how I thought a certain local politician was doing his job. But rather than being able to say I didn't think he was doing a good job at all, I was only given a choice between a) a good job , or B) a fair job. There was no C) for just plain bad. Poll questions can also be worded so that they are certain to get the response that the poll taker wants. Why do they do this? So they can wave a poll in front of you hoping to sway your opinion. Any one in advertising , marketing, and politics knows this, and use it. Some are legit, some are bias, some are just poorly made. You need to know the difference and what they are really telling you.

POPSIllinois Public Opinion Turns Against President Obama's Health Care and Economic Policies
his individual policies have far less support. Recent non-tribune polling has shown that a majority of Illinoisans do not support the the current Democrat Health Care reform. The Tribune poll reflects this sentiment as only 42% approve of the President's handling of Health Care. On the contrary, 43% of Illinoisans disapprove of the President Obama's handling of health care reform. In addition, Illinois residents who have experienced an unemployment rate that has risen from 6.7% to to more than 10.5% in July are increasingly losing confidence in the President's economic policies. 49% of respondents indicated that the President Obama's economic policies have had a negative or no impact on job creation, as opposed to only 45% that believe his policies have had a positive impact. Tribune polling also indicated that the President's support among Independents in Illinois has all but disappeared. 58% of independents believe that his economic policies have had no impact or a

POPSNew York Times Poll Repudiates Obama-Powell Big Gov't Approach " Fewer than half? This is not news, really. This just the first time the New York Times has reported it. We have been telling you for weeks that if you look at polling data issue by issue by issue, a majority of people disapprove of Obama's plans but that his overall approval ratings is up there in the sixties. It's now in the fifties at both CBS/New York Times and NBC/Wall Street Journal. " ewer than half of Americans saying they approve of how he has handled health care and the effort to save General Motors and Chrysler. A majority of people said his policies have had either no effect yet on improving the economy or had made it worse, underscoring how his political strength still rests on faith in his leadership rather than concrete results." That approval number, when it stays over 60%, is license to steal another industry or another sector of the private sector economy.

POPSThe Problem With The Global Warming Scam Is The Global Warming Hype
The New York Times has actually spilled the beans on the latest global warming scam. The PR firm behind the whole thing has figured out that the movement is losing steam and has suggested that the way to regain momentum is to come up with new, scary words. After the requisite amount of yammering, the Times article concludes like this: Robert J. Brulle of Drexel University, an expert on environmental communications, said ecoAmerica’s campaign was a mirror image of what industry and political conservatives were doing. “The form is the same; the message is just flipped,” he said. “You want to sell toothpaste, we’ll sell it. You want to sell global warming, we’ll sell that. It’s the use of advertising techniques to manipulate public opinion.” He said the approach was cynical and, worse, ineffective. “The right uses it, the left uses it, but it doesn’t engage people in a face-to-face manner,” he said, “and that’s the only way to achieve real, lasting social change."[

POPS7 in 10 Americans Back Diplomatic Relations with Cuba One of the most idiotic, decades long US foreign policy has been the Cuba embargo and not having an official diplomatic relationship with Cuba. It has done nothing to change the political situation in Cuba. It has torn families asunder (those who reside in Cuba and those who reside in the USA). And it is simply unneighborly. Cuba is a mere ninety miles from the USA. Yet we keep this policy in place just to assuage a few influential Cuban ex-patriots who reside mostly in South Florida.

POPSGallup: GOP Losing Public Opinion War in Stimulus Fight Political Wire has a quote from David Axelrod on the numbers. I think the Gallup poll this morning reflects everything I've seen for the last couple of weeks... One thing that we learned over two years is that there's a whole different conversation in Washington than there is out here. If I had listened to the conversation in Washington during the campaign for president, I would have jumped off a building about a year and a half ago. The best part of all this? Republicans think it's working .

POPSPoll says race won't be big factor in USA vote
7 out of 10 doesn't sound that good but the pollster points out this goes both ways. I think McCain's age is has the greatest prejudice; old people say this as well. This also points out another problem: Media Driven Issues. The media has just been making up one issue after another than is not an issue to nobody else but them: media fabricated issues...and often just to raise hackles or excitement and thus have more people tune in. With race, it's been called: The Bradley Effect. (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_effect ) It basically means white folks will hide their racial prejudice when polled, thus polls will be off. But that was 26 years ago. Times have changed. There is NO Bradley Effect anymore (well...if so, certainly much much less) This is shown -- documented by elections of other Afro-American candidates in the 21st century, like in a race for governor in 2006; polls were fine. POPSEarly Polling Gives VP Debate to Biden I was surprised to see the rate of conversion from undecided to decided. If 18% were persuaded by Biden and only 10% were by Palin, then Biden did almost twice as good a job as Palin. On the other hand, Palin seemed contrived and stuck on "perky," like a morning news weather reporter. We'll see how later polling goes.

POPSGallup Daily: McCain Moves Ahead, 48% to 45% McCain enjoying increase in support following convention Survey Methods For the Gallup Poll Daily tracking survey, Gallup is interviewing no fewer than 1,000 U.S. adults nationwide each day during 2008. The general-election results are based on combined data from Sep. 4-6, 2008. For results based on this sample of 2,765 registered voters, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±2 percentage points. Interviews are conducted with respondents on land-line telephones (for respondents with a land-line telephone) and cellular phones (for respondents who are cell-phone only). In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls. POPSFear of Terrorism Lowest Since 9/11 More bad news for McCain. "Sen. McCain's greatest strength is in foreign policy, particularly his reputation as the candidate best able to fight the war on terror," said Keating Holland, CNN's polling director. "As the threat of a terrorist attack continues to recede in the mind of the American voter, the state of the economy and other domestic issues are likely to become even more important. That would be good news for Sen. Obama, since the Democrats currently beat or tie the Republicans on every issue except terrorism." The piece also cites Bush's low approvals as a source of worry for Team McCain.

POPSNew Texas poll, or the elephant in the room I find it interesting that they're so obsessed with whether Clinton is going to narrowly win or narrowly lose. She needs to dominate in Ohio and Texas in order to catch up in the delegate count, due to the Democrats' fondness for proportional representation.
