POPSTouch Screen Back in 1998/99, myself and a co-worker were brainstorming on computing ideas. We came up with an idea for a computer screen that would act like a kiosk of sorts, for the elderly. Realizing that there was a need to keep in touch and up to date with technology, it 'felt right' to bring something like touch screen for the elderly or those that could not type, into age (pun intended). Our idea was to set up these kiosk style monitors in senior assisted/non-assisted homes; on campus clubhouses, etc so anyone could send email and play a few games. Easy stuff that would not be intimidating or difficult to learn. Idea blown away when presented to our employer as not 'marketable enough.' About 3 weeks ago, I walked into Sam's Club; the computer section. A round table was set up with HP Touchscreen monitors. Samuelson compares the troubles with Medicare to the “public option,” which he calls a “mirage,” that is gaining strength in Congress. While Medicare is a monopoly, the proposed government-run health insurance plan seeks to attract investment capital to subsidize the enormous costs that it will incur (such as marketing campaigns). If this fails, which it undoubtedly would, Congress would step in to bail it out. When asked why it has taken Medicare so long to figure out they were being scammed, Attorney General Eric Holder told CBS’s Steve Kroft, "I think lack of resources probably. And then I think people I don't think necessarily thought that something as well intentioned as Medicare and Medicaid would necessarily attract fraudsters. Whoa. This thing is dreadful. It's borderline uncomfortable. But I like a good train wreck, so I watched the whole thing. Microsoft is trying to build organic word-of-mouth by encouraging people to host their own Windows 7 parties in their own house. Consumers are encouraged to invite people over and show them how to use the new software in non-threatening environment. It's a good idea in theory, but as it usually is with anything else in marketing - it's all in the execution. Mistake #1: They're trying too damn hard. It's so painfully obvious that the actors were coached to present the information in a very informal, conversational way. Why not have REAL people learn the software and present it in a REAL way? If you don't want to do that - train the actors on the software and have them present it in their REAL voice. Mistake #2: What about some REAL party footage? Ok, if you want to communicate all of the key points via these actors, fine. But show me some real footag
