POPSHomemade furniture polish I started replacing household cleansers with homemade stuff a few months ago and don’t plan on going back to the chemical soup that we have been led to believe we simply must have. To clean windows and countertops use water, vinegar, and dish detergent, for example. I just used this recipe for furniture polish yesterday and it really works. More DIY tips can be found at the site as well as at Tipnut http://tipnut.com/ and TURI http://www.turi.org/turi_lab/do_it_yourself_home_made_household_cleaner_recipes I believe the fewer chemicals we use in our everyday life the better off we are.

POPSBeef Stroganoff- The Healthier Version My kids like to refer to this as “creamy pasta” and request it often. As I don’t like to use a lot of processed foods, I was trying to find a way to make a healthier version of this classic recipe, and I was able to come up with a way! This recipe is for a family of four. 1 pound 93% lean ground beef handful of onions clove of garlic 1 cup of fresh sliced mushrooms 2 cups organic beef broth 1 teaspoon organic tomato paste 8 ounces sour cream (low fat or non-fat) Salt and pepper to taste 12 ounces egg noodles Brown your onions and garlic in olive oil under the onions are soft, about five to ten minutes. Add the ground beef and beef broth and cook until beef is no longer pink, add tomato paste and the sour cream, cook a little longer until mixture starts to thicken, add salt and pepper to taste. Serve over egg noodles and enjoy. www.staying-healthy.info

POPSFood of the Week: Beets Store beets unwashed in the refrigerator crisper where they will keep for two to four weeks. Cut the majority of the greens and their stems from the roots, so they do not pull away moisture away from the root. Leave about two inches of the stem attached to prevent the roots from "bleeding." Store the unwashed greens in a separate plastic bag where they will keep fresh for about four days. Raw beets do not freeze well since they tend to become soft upon thawing. Freezing cooked beets is fine; they'll retain their flavor and texture.
