POPSAdvanced Style: fashion inspiration from the silver-haired set The blogger says We have started a blog of our own that documents street style and fashion of the mature and wizened. Our aim is to take photos of elders with a unique sense of personal style that has developed with age. We noticed so many amazingly dressed older people in New York and are having a great time getting to know them, hearing their stories and capturing a bit of their style to share with others. There are some great stories, too. What do you call a union between a Tasmanian man and a French woman? Devilishly chic , of course! :-)

POPSYounger Military Families Closing Ranks Around Obama People in all branches of the service are getting tired of repeated deployments. "I think more of them will vote for Obama than McCain," said Jennings. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, deployed troops are putting their money where their mouth is: they've given four times as much money to Obama as McCain. "Any assumption that the military vote is overwhelmingly in favor of the Republican Party -- based on demographics alone -- is suspect, at the very least," said Donald S. Inbody, a retired Navy Captain who is on the political science faculty at Texas State University. This could result in a 1.2 to 1 advantage for Obama in military communities, according to Inbody, especially if the campaign "isn't tone deaf" to the inroads that are possible.

POPSLow Information Voters I run into these people a lot here in Georgia. People that make up their minds based on bumper stickers and 30 second TV ads. In a country with such promise, there is a huge swath of people that are, IMO, wasting the potential of this free society to learn, grow, and advance the human condition. Dare I use the word shallow?

POPSEvolution stops here ? This is an interesting read, yet biological evolution is only part of the story of human evolution, perhaps a tiny part at that. Moreover, biodiversity in human populations have new sources that are not considered in this article. Many genomes that would have been selected out of the gene pool in older days are now propagated. Made a clip about that a while ago.

POPSThe Other Humans For a change of pace from the political arena... This month's National Geographic has a very interesting article about the other humans who lived upon our planet, The Neanderthals. We know so little about the development of our species. Searching for information on it, will bring you many theories. Most agree though, that the human species, in one form or another have been around for a couple million years... Yet we have so little information on their evolutionary process to modern day man. Reading this very interesting article will make you acknowledge how vulnerable life is. So many species have come and gone and we have barely scratched the surface of realizing their existence. Perhaps we will never learn completely how life formed upon our planet and how we got to where we are today, but there's one fact for sure; Science will endure and will never give up its quest to bring us answers. National Geographic is a good way to keep up with new scientific discovery.

POPSChalmers Johnson on the "Pentagon Bailout" "There has been much moaning, air-sucking, and outrage about the $700 billion that the U.S. government is thinking of throwing away on rich New York bankers who have been ripping us off for the past few years and then letting greed drive their businesses into a variety of ditches. In fact, we dole out similar amounts of money every year in the form of payoffs to the armed services, the military-industrial complex, and powerful senators and representatives allied with the Pentagon. POPSEzy Roller is the no-pedals, steer-with-your feet racing cart for kids 3 to 15! The Ezy-Roller is a three-wheel cart without petals, a chain, or batteries. Instead it glides forward by moving your feet. The tubular steel frame and canvas seat is very solid and sturdy. It rolls on non-marking polyurethane (replaceable) rollerblade wheels and bearings. The rolling action is very smooth; this is quality product designed to last. Although the Ezy-Roller is $99.99, it is suitable for kids aged 3-14 so your children won’t outgrow it for a long time, and it will be a hit. It’s the most popular item in our store to children. Young children ride without any extension, while older children ride with one or two extender rods (included). Unlike rollerblades, Ezy-Roller has a handbrake built in and top speed is about 12mph.

POPSAccuracy of radiometric dating an earlier clip got me looking for resources on the internet to explain simply, yet completely, the underpinnings of radiometric dating. www.pbs.org/evolution provides a good starting point for many such references. there is a religious tract on the internet that makes many claims about the inaccuracy of radiometric dating methods and the infallibility of the bible as a historical record. the link in this clip addresses some of its primary claims.

POPSWe'll all be citizens of virtual worlds What is the point of all this? It is quite likely that it will be a natural thing for future generations to meet their friends in worlds such as these, where they can watch the same music or videos while chatting to each other. And if that is where youngsters will be hanging out, then brands and media, including newspapers, will have to be there. Other life-mimicking worlds about to be released include shopping malls such as themall.tv, which aims to emulate an entire shopping mall with scores of high street shops. It claims to have signed up 500 brands.

POPSVoter Registration Shut Down If the shutdown goes as planned, it will seriously impair the ability of states to process new voter registrations before the November 4 election. Who would this impact? New voters, as well as people who re-register because they have moved, who do not have state-issued driver's licenses or non-driver's IDs. Those citizens are disproportionately older, African-American, and low-income
