POPSWhat Americans owe to those who serve "Each November we are asked to pause and honor them, which is, or should be, an honor in itself. After the events of the last week at Fort Hood in Texas, with their reminder of the sacrifices that the men and women of the military make for us, Veterans Day will hold special meaning this year."

POPSBaptist Church to Burn Bibles This one certainly belongs in the LOONY BIN because of the bazaar reasoning of this apparently misguided congregation. I wish I could say that this is an isolated case but I know far too many "KING JAMES ONLY" adherents who would probably applaud this behavior. In my post To King James or Not to King James I wrote at great length on this issue. There has been an ongoing controversy surrounding this issue, but the way this old bird sees things, the crazy antics of this Baptist church makes me wonder if reading the KING JAMES bible causes otherwise rational people to loose all reason. This pastor and his 14 followers have certainly flown over the cuckoos nest. And that is how I see it! Eagle Out!

POPSCriminalizing everyone "Mr. Norris ended up spending almost two years in prison because he didn't have the proper paperwork for some of the many orchids he imported. The orchids were all legal - but Mr. Norris and the overseas shippers who had packaged the flowers had failed to properly navigate the many, often irrational, paperwork requirements the U.S. imposed when it implemented an arcane international treaty's new restrictions on trade in flowers and other flora. POPSIf Islam is a religion of peace, then sticks of dynamite are only candles On July 30, eight people were burned alive in the village of Gojra, also in Punjab, after a purported incident of desecration of the Koran in the nearby village of Korian Wala. Churches were attacked and copies of the Bible and hymn books were burned in both villages. In Korian Wala alone, more than 50 houses of Christians were ransacked. On Sept. 11, a church in a village in Punjab's Sialkot district was burned after claims that a 20-year-old Christian youth had desecrated the Koran. On Sept. 15, a day after his arrest, Robert Masih was found dead in his jail cell. Police reported it as a suicide, but Mr. Masih's family claims he was killed. Joseph Francis, who runs an organization providing legal assistance to Christians, said he saw marks of torture on Mr. Masih's body.

POPSHarvey Weinstein thinks being an artist makes raping a child okay, it seems More: I am reassured to know that people with this kind of power, and this kind of money, fully believe they have the right to use the connections that they have, to help a friend evade prosecution for this 'so called crime'. It makes me feel very positive about the world, that the drugging and raping, of a 13 year old child- is not rape, as long as it is a powerful celebrity that is raping her. It reassures me that women like Deborah Winger, and Whoopi Goldberg- are standing up to tell the world that this 'so called crime' is not really that bad, its not like its 'rape rape' after all. Well if a case where a undisputed facts are that a 13 year old was repeatedly fucked against her will, after being drugged, is not rape= then really, I would like to know what constitutes rape at all? Oh wait, I am not reassured. I am fucking angry. Disgusted. Horrified. Dumbfounded.

POPSImmortality only 20 years away says scientist No thanks, I don't want to live forever. "Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively. "Within 25 years we will be able to do an Olympic sprint for 15 minutes without taking a breath, or go scuba-diving for four hours without oxygen. "Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive. "Nanotechnology will extend our mental capacities to such an extent we will be able to write books within minutes. "If we want to go into virtual-reality mode, nanobots will shut down brain signals and take us wherever we want to go. Virtual sex will become commonplace. And in our daily lives, hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening. "So we can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs."

POPSHow to Read the Bible, Part 1: Beginner We suggest that you buy a highlighter in a color you like. Don’t be afraid to underline passages that speak to you. Switch to another color when you start your second year of reading the Bible. It would help you track the kinds of verses that spoke to you at a certain parts of your life.

POPSWhy Google bought reCAPTCHA (you'll never guess this) I had no idea that the collective entries people made were self - validating and educating computers on what the letters were...that makes reCAPTCHA about 100x more innovative than i ever realized it to be. For anyone who doesn't know, ReCAPTCHA is the thing you have probably seen many times when you sign up for a new service - when you're asked to enter the scribbled letters in a box.

POPSThe lost symbol
The wait is over. "The Lost Symbol," the follow-up to Dan Brown's 2003 mega-seller, "The Da Vinci Code," is here -- and you don't have to be a Freemason to enjoy it (although it wouldn't hurt).Like "Angels and Demons," published in 2000, and "The Da Vinci Code," "The Lost Symbol" solves puzzles, analyzes paintings and reveals forgotten histories -- all so that Brown's tireless hero, Robert Langdon, can find a legendary Masonic treasure despite special ops squads that are dogging him and a bizarre killer who has kidnapped his dear friend and mentor. There is one mystery, though, that remains unsolved after three books. Will Langdon ever get to rest? You'd think a 46-year-old Harvard symbologist's most strenuous chores would be grinding his Sumatran coffee beans in the morning or persuading bored undergrads to appreciate hidden meanings in the world around them. Langdon does these things, but he's also the guy who survived an antimatter explosion at the Vatican and a Paris manhunt and uncov

POPSMark Twain’s Top 9 Tips for Living a Kick-Ass Life “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” “It’s no wonder that truth is stranger than fiction. Fiction has to make sense.” “Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.” “When your friends begin to flatter you on how young you look, it’s a sure sign you’re getting old.” You may know Mark Twain for some of his very popular books like Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He was a writer and also a humorist, satirist and lecturer. Twain is known for his many " and often funny " quotes.

POPSOut With the Old, In With the Raw In general, if you are craving crap you are likely to be deficient in some area of nutrition. Eating enough greens will solve this problem. Most smoothie bars are serving up so much sugar you may as well be at a Dairy Queen. There are tons of green smoothie recipes online and in books like Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko to help you keep it fresh in the kitch. Get your green smoothie in often and feel the difference. Here’s one from the article: Ghetto Green Smoothie • Fresh spinach • Bananas • Water Fill your blender up ¾ full with the fresh spinach. Add two bananas and just enough water to get it to blend down (the idea is to get as much greens in while maintaining your taste preference). Blend and taste. Too sweet? Add more greens. Too swampy? Add more bananas. You can also add ice or use frozen bananas for a frostier blend. More nutritional goodness at the site.

POPSWildfire evacuees grab pets and Bibles, then flee More: Lewis found himself surprised by his first reaction: He grabbed his Nikon digital camera, remembering his Gila Community College photography teacher’s instructions. “I don’t really know what I was thinking, except that I had to document this."… Finally, he realized he had to stop taking photographs and get out. “So I took my medical records, dog food, camera, laptop, clothes, a box of old photos of my children,” including his son with the head injury sustained in Baghdad and his 32-year-old art teacher daughter.” He also took his Bible and, of course, his two dogs — Karma and Smokey, an interesting combination for canine fire survivors. Later, he realized that he left all of his books and papers and schoolwork. He also left all his materials for the “diet craze” for which he’d signed up. “Left all that stuff behind — don’t know if that’s forethought or afterthought,” he mused.

POPSA grief like no other: listening to the families of murder victims More: The increase in the U.S. murder rate has been accompanied over the past few decades by a rising incidence of crimes once considered rare. Mass murders, serial murders, and murders committed by strangers have become more commonplace.… Since 1966 hundreds of books have been published that follow murderers along their paths of destruction… And yet just a handful of books have looked at murder from the victim's perspective.… During the past twenty-five years hundreds of articles in psychiatric journals have examined the homicidal mind. Fewer than a dozen have explored how a homicide affects the victim's family. In a study of murder in Romantic literature the theater scholar Laurence Senelick used a phrase, "the prestige of evil," that goes a long way toward explaining why our culture has become obsessed with the murderer while ignoring the victim.

POPSFake hate crime alert: Leftists vandalize Denver Democrat HQ; Dems smeared Obamacare foes By Michelle Malkin • August 25, 2009 Meet the hoaxer: A 24-year-old arrested this morning on suspicion of smashing 11 windows at Colorado Democratic Party headquarters tried to conceal his identity while allegedly committing the crime, according to police descriptions. Maurice Schwenkler wore a shirt over his face, a hooded sweat shirt and latex gloves before he and another man fled the scene on bicycles, police said. Schwenkler was apprehended after a short chase. The other suspect remains at large. While Schwenkler does not appear in the state’s voter registration database, a person by that name in November 2008 received $500 from a political 527 committee called Colorado Citizens Coalition for “communications,” according to campaign finance disclosures. The accountant for the 527 appears to be the same woman who handles the books for many other Democratic-leaning political committees.
