Obama Banking Bill Passed by US House
merrie
by merrie  12-11-2009    1
mortgages of financially struggling borrowers was defeated. David Hirschmann, a director of the US Chamber of Commerce, said: “While there is a laundry list of bad choices that were made by the House, the creation of the CFPA tops the list.” However, he said he was encouraged by the “growing group of moderate Democrats” who helped amend the bill to prevent states from setting tougher consumer protection standards. Another provision that has been resisted by banks allows regulators to impose a loss on creditors of failing financial institutions that need to be seized by the government. After stark warnings that the provision would make credit less liquid and more expensive, the size of the “haircut” to be imposed on creditors was reduced to up to 10 per cent and some securities were exempted. But it stayed in the bill. Read full Financial Times article at http://bit.ly/8SGlGW Copyright The Financial Times Limited 2009

Code Pinko - just what is it you really want?
dl211
by dl211  12-1-2009    3
Just saw Medea Benjamin on Fox denouncing Obama for sending troops and calling for congress to defund Afghanistan war. It is so painful to listen to these hypocrites. Benjamin is a cofounder of both CODEPINK and the international human rights organization Global Exchange went to Afghanistan in Oct this year and she was told by the women of Afghanistan they needed the troops to stay, they were fearful if the troops pulled out. Code Pinko did not like what they heard from the Afghan women. They were hoping they would say it's OK if we are killed, if we can be used as cannon fodder for Code Pink. Bunch of spineless A-holes who believe no war is ever justified. They should be exiled to Iran for a few years, to live as some of the oppressed people they claim to be for.

How To Control Life; Control Carbon
merrie
by merrie  11-28-2009
Former EU Environment Minister Margot Wallstrom said, "Kyoto is about the economy, about leveling the playing field for big businesses worldwide." Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper once dismissed U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol as a "socialist scheme." (http://bit.ly/81iMvl) In addition, calls for a global carbon tax have been urged at recent U.N. global warming conferences . In December 2007, the U.N. climate conference in Bali urged the adoption of a global carbon tax that would represent "a global burden sharing system, fair, with solidarity, and legally binding to all nations." (http://bit.ly/5fNMQ5) "A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources," said Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth. The Obama administration revealed even more controls in September 2009 when it was announced that the State Department wanted to form a global "Ecological Board of Directors." (http://bit.ly/8hbI4D)

"Since there are two possible ways to construe the term “provided to,” Mr. Barron wrote, it makes sense to pick the interpretation that allows the government to avoid breaching contracts." Explosive– Climategate Files Were Leaked to BBC But They Refused to Cover the Story
merrie
by merrie  11-26-2009
In his BBC blog two days ago, Hudson said: ‘I was forwarded the chain of emails on the 12th October, which are comments from some of the world’s leading climate scientists written as a direct result of my article “Whatever Happened To Global Warming”.’ That essay, written last month, argued that for the last 11 years there had not been an increase in global temperatures. It also presented the arguments of skeptics who believe natural cycles control temperature and the counter-arguments of those who think it’s man’s actions which are warming the planet. The leaked files " which show 4,000 documents which have allegedly been sent by scientists over the past 13 years " were apparently taken from servers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, which is a world-renowned centre focused on studying climate change. The face in the video belongs to Dr. Michael Mann, the father of the bogus global warming hockey stick graph. Gateway Pundit http://bit.ly/55NmQE

At Work
chestnut501
by chestnut501  11-23-2009    2
When the economy makes big news, many photographs of people at work come across the wires, usually to help illustrate a particular story or event. By collecting these disparate photos over the past few months, I found that a global portrait emerged of we humans producing things. People assembling, generating, and building items small and large, mundane and expensive, trivial and important. I hope you enjoy this look into some people's work lives around the world.
