Air Force Sgt. on civilian jet spots mid-air fuel leak, saves 300 lives

"... before we go oceanic." Those aviators have a way with words. "I noticed the leak on the left side of the aircraft right behind the wing earlier during take-off," said Sergeant Bachleda. Sergeant Bachleda continued analyzing the outflow of fuel to be 100 percent sure it was a leak while the plane was reaching cruising altitude. The captain came from the cockpit to where Sergeant Bachleda was sitting to see the leak and view the video footage. Sergeant Bachleda said the captain and the crew were trying to figure out how the aircraft was losing 6,000 pounds of fuel an hour and then they knew exactly what was going on. The captain made a mid-air announcement the flight would be diverted back to Chicago, but then changed it to San Francisco.

The Real Climate Deniers
merrie

and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years. Obama's inverted hyperbole hardly anomalous. Similar blunders splatter in the faces of the global whiners regularly. On February 13th of last year the Midwest was getting hammered with an unusual dose of bitter Arctic air. Minneapolis, Minnesota, woke up to -4°. Chicago had snow and a temperature of 19°. So ferocious was the weather that Maryville College in St. Louis was forced to cancel its screening of Al Gore's global warming manifesto, An Inconvenient Truth. As the storm quickly raced east, Washington, D.C. braced for its biggest snowfall of the season. Coincidently both the House and Senate had planned major climate convocations for the following day. Alarmed by the weather forecast, a notice was fired off to BlackBerrys across Capital Hill: "The Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality hearing scheduled for Wednesday, February 14, 2007 has been postponed due to inclement weather."

'Chemical equator' keeps southern air clean

The virtual map says it all. Now it means the approach to the solution of the pollution problem needs to be tackled in different ways in each hemisphere. Atmospheric pollution is only one problem. More investigation needs to be done into the nature of oceanic pollution. it did make me wonder of the Nuclear Fusion experiments on Mururoa (Aopuni) and Bikini atolls in French Polynesia last Century. The first nuclear test was conducted on July 2, 1966, code named Aldebaran. France abandoned nuclear testing in the atmosphere in 1974 and moved testing underground in the midst of intense world pressure. A total of 147 underground nuclear tests were conducted at Mururoa and Fangataufa. This practice created much controversy as cracking of the atolls was discovered, A 1979 test conducted at half the usual depth caused a large submarine landslide on the southwest rim of the atoll. Just somehow seemed relevant

Cheney Aide getting Global Warming Portfolio at Energy?
Kelika

"The result: One of the most ardent opponents of government regulation within the government would be put in a key decision-making position where global warming policies are set. Said Jason K. Burnett, who as a deputy associate administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency tangled with Hutto over global warming until leaving the government: "I can't think of a case where Chase advocated more environmental or health protections." As for placing Hutto in the Energy Department at this late date, the Post, quoting Francesca Grifo of the Union of Concerned Scientists, notes: "In coming months, Hutto could make policy decisions that the next administration would find difficult to reverse quickly.""

Weather Or Not, We're Still Doomed.....Whatever
merrie
by merrie  5-6-2008    1
James Overland of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration claims that an ozone hole over the Antarctic is masking conditions there, keeping temperatures low. Later the ozone hole will close up, so we're still doomed. Gareth Marshall of the British Antarctic Survey floats this one: climate change causes Antarctic winds to blow harder, trapping colder air. But this will decrease at an undisclosed future date, so we're still doomed. Gabbles Marshall: The tea leaves point to a minimal amount of sea ice next September, that would be the same as we had last summer, 40 percent loss compared to 20 years ago. At least tea leaves are an improvement over the phony computer models they've been using to find their predetermined results. On a tip from hiram13pm. Posted by Van Helsing

Planning for a Climate-Changed World (2)
Moonowler
by Moonowler  7-7-2007
Weather and climate are, obviously, far more localized than that. Mountain ranges--even individual peaks and valleys--make their own weather. A single glacier might grow or dissolve because of temperature and rainfall changes in a very specific area. Differences in air temperature over water and land cause breezes that can dramatically influence climate and weather in coastal areas.

Foremost expert in climatology debunks "global warming" hysteria
pkronfield
by pkronfield  5-6-2007    2
This guy says the global warming hysteria is nonsense: Reid A. Bryson holds the 30th PhD in Meteorology granted in the history of American education. Emeritus Professor and founding chairman of the University of Wisconsin Department of Meteorology—now the Department of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences—in the 1970s he became the first director of what’s now the UW’s Gaylord Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies. He’s a member of the United Nations Global 500 Roll of Honor—created, the U.N. says, to recognize “outstanding achievements in the protection and improvement of the environment.” He has authored five books and more than 230 other publications and was identified by the British Institute of Geographers as the most frequently cited climatologist in the world.
