POPSThe New Face of Racism: Hilary Clinton Hillary Clinton may well be the youngest living Dixiecrat. Basically, her campaign strategy has come down to this: 1. There are lots of Americans who would vote against a person based on the color of his skin. (I bet you can't guess which color they "aren't quite ready for"!) 2. These people are so important to the Democratic Party that we should on no account offend their delicate sensibilities by fielding an, ehm, colored candidate. 3. By virtue of her being white, she has the key character trait that appeals to the DNC base, which is the ability to pander to the much vaunted "Racist Redneck" demographic. Are her values in line with the Democratic Party? They certainly don't represent me! In fact, I would prefer it if racists didn't vote for the candidate I support. After all, nobody is looking for the David Duke endorsement!

POPS McCain And The G.I. Bill As this helpful Boston Globe piece explains, the original bill was curtailed during the relative peace of the 1980s, capping benefits at just under $10,000 per year. The new bill, which Webb introduced with Chuck Hagel and Frank Lautenberg and which John Warner has cosponsored, would raise the cap on the benefit to match the cost of the most expensive public university or college in any given state.

POPSAlmost Heaven? *sigh* Not everyone from WV feels like this. But enough people do to make my life a living hell at times.

POPSBarack Obama’s Priority: Global Poverty Act $845Billion Carbon Tax If that wasn’t enough to enlighten most of us to Barack Obama’s real agenda, let’s take a look at another part of the United Nations Millennium declaration, this time in reference to gun control. It seems to me, his first priority is not the people of America, what we need is a President of the United States, one who will stand for the rights of our citizens , even if it is against the global interests of the United Nations.

POPSAbsolutly Ridiculous
Are there some people out there who won't vote for Obama because he's black...sure there are. Just like there are some people out there who won't vote for Clinton because she's a woman. If you want to pull the racism card, you have to counter with the sexism card as well. Both democratic candidates are at a disadvantage because of stereotypes and some form of bigotry. The argument about this being the first time white Americans have had the opportunity to vote for a black person is ridiculous as well. It's also the first opportunity for men of any color to vote for a woman. If I'm a white man and vote for Obama, does that mean I'm not racist but I'm sexist? C'mon, give me a break. People for the most part are voting for who they think will make the best candidate. Are some white people not voting for Obama because he's black...sure. Are some men not voting for Clinton because she's a woman...sure. But give people credit - there's a lot more people who are looking at the

POPSClinton Questions Obama's Ability CHARLESTON, WV—Hillary Clinton once again attacked Barack Obama on the issue of experience Tuesday, this time questioning the Illinois senator's ability to effectively smile, make appropriate eye contact, and offer sufficiently delicious finger foods when welcoming visiting world leaders.

POPSLipstick on a Pig No matter how you skew it, all three candidates carry baggage with them that affects people's opinions. Never before have we had such clear cut issues facing the electrorate than we do today. Whether it's racism, sexism, or ageism, voters either confront or hide from the facts. What other conclusions can be drawn in WV except that the majority of voters in this 95% white state harbor racism. Whether it is blatent or hidden, it exists. The issues are too close between the Democratic contenders for one not to ask this question. In some states it's been to Obama's favor. It's the scope of the win and the demographic of the state that makes this a true indicator of people's motivations.

POPSDemocrat tied to Obama wins special election in Mississippi More: The special election was held to fill the seat of former Rep. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), who was appointed to serve out the remainder of Sen. Trent Lott’s term last December. Wicker had never faced a competitive race since first elected in 1994, and the district gave President Bush 62 percent of the vote in 2004. The results amount to a rebuke of the Republican strategy of trying nationalize the race by tying Childers to Sen. Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Obama held low approval ratings in the district, but the nearly $2 million that GOP groups poured into northern Mississippi failed to make the race a referendum on the national political landscape. A GOP House leadership aide told Politico last week that “if we don’t win in Mississippi, I think you are going to see a lot of people running around here looking for windows to jump out of.”

POPSI Hope it Happens While being a big Hillary supporter, I've been coming to the unfortunate realization that Obama is very likely to win the democratic nod over her. Obama is alright, but Hillary is by far more experienced and has greater leadership qualities that will make her a better president. Obama is more personable, but he doesn't have the experience to be president. If he and Hillary can put aside their differences, having Hillary's experience to fill the gap for Obama, combined with his eloquence, they'd be a perfect combo. I'm still not convinced it can happen - Hillary will not be 2nd to anyone - but if Obama does in fact win the nomination, here's hoping it does.

POPSCobb bar protested as racist for Obama T-shirts Among his recent musings: "I wish Hillary had married OJ," "No habla espanol — and never will" and the standard "I.N.S. Agents eat free." "I'm saying out loud what everyone in this town whispers," Norman said.

POPSBiased coverage? No way!?!? Every election is rife with biased coverage by the main media news outlets; it's just that party heads deny it until it works against them. Whether you believe in the “vast right wing conspiracy” or the “left wing media” scourge, it seems that bias in the machine has indeed played a large role in defeating Hillary.
