POPSClimate - Lord Monckton Rap Battles Al Gore - Rap News re: Climate-gate: this vid was posted a few days before this incident took place - which is why no mention of it is made (no conspiracy of silence here!). As several viewers have rightly brought this up, here is what we think: The 'conspiracy' is right in front of our eyes, not hidden in emails and behind firewalls. YouTube (6:40) http://bit.ly/4qGl50

POPSAt last there's proof: 44% of Americans Are Crazy I'm not sure which is the less heartening thought: that these are the same 44% who think that China is already #1, or that a total of 88% of the public holds one of the other of these views.* ____ * To clarify in response to query, obviously I am mentioning here the two boundary cases. One extreme is total overlap between the two 44% groups, so that the same 44% of the public thinks China is all-powerful and wishes GW Bush were still in the White House. The other extreme is zero overlap between the two, so that no one who thinks China is on top wants Bush back, and vice versa. Then the two groups would total 88%. In the real world it's somewhere in between.

POPSIs Voting Republican Bad For Your Health? The chart wouldn't clip . You'll have to click through to see it. From the source: "As Forbes noted: The annual ranking looks at 22 indicators of health, including everything from how many children receive recommended vaccinations, to obesity and smoking rates, to cancer deaths." They just want to drag everyone down to their level. Red states also have the highest overall divorce and teenage pregnancy rates. Way to go.

POPS6 Signs That the American Empire Is Coming to an Early End Funny, I've been saying this (out loud) for years. More of an interesting article: "No one seems to be saying this out loud -- yet -- but let's put it bluntly: less than a year into the 15-year span of Global Trends 2025, the days of America's unquestioned global dominance have come to an end. It may take a decade or two (or three) before historians will be able to look back and say with assurance, "That was the moment when the United States ceased to be the planet's preeminent power and was forced to behave like another major player in a world of many competing great powers." The indications of this great transition, however, are there for those who care to look."

POPSMark Steyn: Obama a Tough Guy, at Least With Fox News I don't know why he'd be surprised. When a man has spent his entire adult life in the "community organized" precincts of Chicago, it should hardly be news that much of his Rolodex is made up of either loons or thugs. So when Communications Commissar Mao Ze Dunn starts berating Fox News for not getting into the same Maosketeer costumes as the rest of the press corps, you begin to see why the Chairman might appeal to her as a favorite "political philosopher". So the troika of Dunn, Emanuel and Axelrod were dispatched to the Sunday talk shows to lay down the law. We all know the lines from "The Untouchables" " "the Chicago way," don't bring a knife to a gunfight " and, given the pay czar's instant contract-gutting of executive compensation and the demonization of the health insurers and much else, it's easy to look on the 44th president as an old-style Cook County operator: You wanna do business in this town, you gotta do it through me.

POPS NYTimes Declares Fox News Winner! After discussing past Presidents who unsuccessfully fought the press, Carr first scolded the White House, and then declared an unpredictable winner: Even though almost all the critiques contained a kernel of truth, in each instance the folks who had the barrels of ink, and now pixels, seemed to come out ahead. So far, the only winner in this latest dispute seems to be Fox News. Ratings are up 20 percent this year, and the network basked for a week in the antagonism of a sitting president... he administration, by deploying official resources against a troublesome media organization, seems to have brought a knife to a gunfight. Carr seemed even less impressed with the tactics the Adminstration has been employing in this battle: On the official White House Web site, a blog called Reality Check provides a running tally of transgressions by Fox News. It ends with this: "For even more Fox lies, check out the latest ‘Truth-O-Meter' . . .

POPSChechen, North African and Pakistani Fighters Helping Taliban
Defense Minister Requests More International Troops, Says Thousands Bolstering Taliban Insurgency (AP) Thousands of foreign fighters have poured into Afghanistan to bolster the Taliban insurgency, the country's defense minister said Saturday as he called for more international troops. The remarks come as the U.S. debates whether to substantially increase its forces in Afghanistan or to conduct a more limited campaign focused on targeting al Qaeda figures - most of whom are believed to be in neighboring Pakistan. An American and two Polish troops were killed by bombs in the latest violence reported by NATO forces. U.S. military officials said they could not immediately comment on the claim of a recent influx of foreign fighters. Afghanistan's interior minister, who also spoke to parliament, endorsed a strategy promoted by the top U.S. commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal to focus on protecting civilians rather than simply killing insurgents.

POPSObama Speaks At Congressional Black Caucus, Talked About What A Great Job He's Doing The New York Times is reporting today: Job seekers now outnumber openings six to one, the worst ratio since the government began tracking open positions in 2000. According to the Labor Department’s latest numbers, from July, only 2.4 million full-time permanent jobs were open, with 14.5 million people officially unemployed. And even though the pace of layoffs is slowing, many companies remain anxious about growth prospects in the months ahead, making them reluctant to add to their payrolls. Expect those numbers to increase even further if our president tries to push through cap-and-trade.

POPSRace Card resurgence (Johnson), and under threat of other varieties of violent, disaffected white supremacist extremism (U.S. Department of Homeland Security). Barack Obama is smart enough to know this is not true. He knows he has sold his initiative poorly, that his timing is bad and his politicking is worse. At some point in the not-too-distant future, whether his health-care plan continues to crash and burn or is resurrected in a new figleaf evolution, the president needs tell the nation that it is OK to disagree with him, that political dissent and even anger do not equal racism. Not simply as a throwaway remark in an interview with a TV news anchor, or an aside in speech. He could invite U.S. representatives Joe Wilson and Johnson, former President Carter, New York Times scribbler Dowd, shrill standup act Garfalo and a lot of Tea Party organizers over for beers, but that approach was trite before he tried it last time, and this situation is more serious than a

POPS ACORN – Not Just Pimpin’ The fallout of this investigation thus far at “street level” is four low-level ACORN “field Negros” have been fired. Don’t expect the Rathke’s to get hurt. “Socialist” please! Here is what an ACORN spokesperson had to say: ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis would not defend the employees in the video, but insists that the videos “are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist ‘filmmaker’ O’Keefe and his partner in crime.” What Bertha should have admitted is that the black women in thesse videos have been “doctored” and “edited,” and that the doctoring and editing has been done systematically by the Democrat Party. These women are the product of the Democrats “seek and destroy” mission within the black community. The outcome is a moral relativity that has these black women willing to put criminals in American communities, under the guise of “the greater good.”

POPSAccept the Settlements, Israel says
Accord to some media source, we're suppose to think Israeli expansion of settlements is now "likely." I think it is "likely," Israel will continue to lose U.S. support as it persistently refuses even the first step of honest peace talks....stopping settlement expansion. This has been the demand for decades and everybody knows it and everybody knows that Zionism is all about the removal of all Arabs from the Biblical land claims of Israel. (i.e., zionist is Palestinian genocide). This latest propaganda ploy (i.e.: accept it...it's "likely." - comes from a leaked consideration of a meeting to announce terms, overheard by an unnamed diplomat inside source....got that?) Personally, I think ending the slow starvation of over a million and a half people in the Gaza Strip would be another clearly proper thing to do. Maybe end the mass arrests of innocent Palestinian a 'good faith," gesture. But no,Israel wants "good faith gestures," from the Arabs. Again. It's the same old l

POPSThe So Called Liberal Media XXVIIII: Why Villagers are clueless Those of you who remember Paul Krugman's often harsh criticisms of Obama during the election campaign might be surprised to read Howard Kurtz's media column which puts him first among the disappointed former Obama cheerleaders. Krugman has certainly been critical of Obama's performance in office, but this is only news for Kurtz, not people familiar with Krugman's writings. All Villagers aren't wrong in everything they write obviously, certainly not Kurtz, but this latest error is laughable. I can understand if it was a matter of interpretation, but come on Howard, this one wasn't even close to being on the mark. (h/t Atrios)

POPSGerald Celente Predicts Obamageddon in 2012 In his latest interview with the Fox News Happy Hour , Gerald Celente appeared more gloomy than ever about the future of the United states of America, he predicted a series of events one gloomier than the next ranging from farmer riots to boss napping to New york City becoming like Mexico City...Gerald Celente said : What’s happening under the Obama administration is unprecedented. With these rescue schemes, bailout plans, the takeover of major corporations, on and on and on. So yes, it has been going on a long time but is accelerating now at a level that makes our country, that used to be the empire of entrepreneurial opportunity, now just a country to save the too-big-to-fails. It’s ending up bankrupting the country. The government is now in hock $546,000 per household. You’re never going to be able to pay it off in obligations. http://www.trendsresearch.com/

POPSAxelrod’s Profits: Uh, Who’s on the Take From the Drug Lobby Again?!?!
Two firms that received $343.3 million to handle advertising for Barack Obama’s White House run last year have profited from his top priority as president by taking on his push for health-care overhaul. One is AKPD Message and Media, the Chicago-based firm headed by David Axelrod until he left last Dec. 31 to serve as a senior adviser to the president. Axelrod was Obama’s top campaign strategist and is now helping sell the health-care plan. The other firm is Washington-based GMMB Campaign Group, where partner Jim Margolis was also an Obama strategist. This year, AKPD and GMMB received $12 million in advertising business from Healthy Economy Now, a coalition that includes the Washington-based Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, known as PhRMA, that is seeking to build support for a health-care overhaul, said the coalition’s spokesman, Jeremy Van Ess. You won’t be surprised to learn that the HEN coalition also includes left-wing Families USA, the sellouts . . .

POPSPolls And Post-Mortems Howard Fineman tells us what went wrong, other than the predictable perfidy of Evil Republicans and their big business paymasters: Murky campaign promises ...The president is for “reform,” which says… nothing. Orszag’s fantasy Every president wants to reconcile frugality and generosity, and there is always an ambitious and clever aide willing to tell him it can be done. In Obama’s White House it is Budget Director Peter Orszag, who confidently told Obama that carefully administered universal health coverage would save the government money in the long run. ... Focusing on the have-nots ...the White House all along should have been focusing on the fears of the 85 percent who have insurance, not on the 15 percent who do not. Jonah Goldberg has his view - "if you actually wanted Obama-care to pass, casting a majority of Americans as being stooges of racist goons may not be the best way to go." He left out greedy and stupid.

He wasn't born in the USA 2. He's a racist 3. This clip, he's a socialist The media has a false reputation as being on the side of the people, the so-called: "fourth estate." (from the days of the French Revolution). But the clear and harsh reality today is the media is toxic news, poison, smear and slander. It's a corrosive influence against good values in our culture, it's in 'bad taste,' everyday it wants to tear the President down. With few exception, this is the norm. Dragging everybody and everything through the mud is now called news.

POPS"Capital Malpractice" In addition to a number of news articles, Congressional correspondence and expert testimonies, the report also cites a June study produced by the Lewin Group, which is owned by UnitedHealth Group. Republicans have launched a multi-front war against proposed Democratic health care bills and have vowed to continue the fight into the August recess. “Rather than forcing government-run health care on the American people, Washington should be looking to the states which pioneered welfare reform in the 1990s and are serving as laboratories for health care reform today,” Boehner said in a joint news release. “The Congressional Democrats’ flawed attempt at health care reform won’t solve the health care cost crisis facing our nation and, as this report shows, would actually add to the financial burden of states and families,” Pawlenty said in the release.
