Hey Obama ~ Don’t Forget Deval Patrick!
merrie
by merrie  9-20-2009    1
a state political race by the president, and is a delicate one, given that Mr. Paterson is one of only two African-American governors in the nation. Hey Obama, as long as you’re meddling in state politics to undermine black governors, you might want to consider throwing Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick under the same bus. He’s way down in the polls, too! By the way, Mr. President, congratulations on the state politics-meddling re Ted Kennedy’s deathbed wish to reverse his 2004 request for a Massachusetts law that would have barred then-Gov. Mitt Romney from appointing a replacement to John Kerry in the event he … snort … excuse me … got elected president. With last week’s 95-58 vote in the Massachusetts House, it’s looking good. The President of the United States and others who do not reside in Massachusetts, such Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, have been meddling in local politics because they are worried that despite dominating House, Senate and White House . . .

NY Senate Stalemate is Over - For Now
iulawboy
by iulawboy  7-9-2009
Word of the discussion came after unusually chaotic 24 hours in Albany. Gov. David A. Paterson named Richard Ravitch as lieutenant governor on Wednesday, but early Thursday, Senate Republicans received a temporary restraining order that sought to prevent Mr. Ravitch from taking office. The Republicans got the restraining order from a judge in Nassau County. Paterson administration officials, however, had already rushed to swear in Mr. Ravitch about 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Peter Luger Steakhouse in Brooklyn. Thursday morning, in introducing Mr. Ravitch, 76, a Democratic lawyer with a career in government dating back a half-century, Mr. Paterson said his choice would not take action until the court issue is resolved, although he said he believed the appointment was legal.

Day to of NY Senate Political Theater

by iulawboy  6-11-2009
A defiant Mr. Espada said he would enter the chamber for a session on Thursday even if the Democrats kept the doors bolted shut. As he was being trailed by a large group of reporters down a corridor in the Capitol, Mr. Espada pulled a gold key out of his pocket, grinned and said: “I’ve got the key. I’ve got the key.” Nearby, amid the crush of camera crews, a clown dispatched to the Capitol by The New York Post added to the carnival atmosphere.

It's a shame that it's come down to this. America is taking sides and it doesn't seem fair that some folks have to fight for the same rights we are given. Why should anyone be afraid of two people they don't know wanting to be together.

Stop these greedy bastards. They have stuffed the world economically with money grabbing schemes, now they want to stuff the internet. (With reasoning like "By taxing it you're legitimising it," said Michael Long, chairman of the New York Conservative Party). As these bsa's have their feet in the door, you will have to be active.

Still the governor sounded grave saying, "This is a very, very difficult year for Americans. But I don't think it has been fully realized ... it could theoretically become another depression, it is that difficult."

The Taxman Cometh
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  12-18-2008    1
I hope New Yorkers tax themselves into bliss and happiness. Make the tax rate actually go negative at some point - if you make 1 dollar more than $250K (to use the Messiah's old limit on what is considered to be rich) you would owe $1.05 in taxes. Peace and Contentment will come over New York like a mighty river. oh yeah!

NY Governor David Paterson: SNL's Faux Pas
merrie
by merrie  12-15-2008
Outlaw trans fats? C'mon, Mike. That's small potatoes. How about a tax on sugar itself? A can of Coke could soon cost New Yorkers more than just calories. Gov. Paterson, as part of a $121 billion budget to be unveiled Tuesday, will propose an "obesity tax" of about 15% on nondiet drinks. Let's just skip the next few chapters and move straight to the government-approved, gluten-free, non-dairy nutrient paste. (HT: JWF and Hot Air)

Former-President-Senator Bill Clinton (NY-D)???
merrie
by merrie  12-1-2008    3
"This is not an election. This is not a campaign. It's a constituency of one. David Paterson. It's all about what the governor wants to do," said political analyst Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of The Rothenberg Political Report. "Paterson has said he would prefer someone from upstate New York, or a woman or an Hispanic candidate," Rothenberg said. As for some of the more unconventional picks, Rothenberg said Paterson could "try to make a splash with a big name like Robert Kennedy Jr." or a "quirky interesting pick" of someone like Caroline Kennedy, who is not a politician. But some are suggesting the former president should take his wife's seat.

NY To Back Same-Sex Unions From Elsewhere
debbyski
by debbyski  5-29-2008    18
Look how far we have come as human beings! It wasn't so long ago that gays were reviled as "fags" or "queers" and homosexuality was considered, and treated as a psychological disorder and gays and lesbians did not dare admit their sexual orientation for fear of losing their jobs. Sure, some evangelical ministers will continue to denounce homosexuality from the pulpit and urge parishioners to join them in denying equal rights to gays and lesbians. And some poor misguided souls will blindly agree. But their hate speech will eventually fail because their crusade to treat gays and lesbians as second-class citizens is WRONG and the vast majority of Americans will choose equality every time.
