POPSPolitcs, Profits, Protection US penalizes Chinese tires, infuriating Beijing President Barack Obama's decision to impose trade penalties on Chinese tires has infuriated Beijing at a time when the U.S. badly needs Chinese help on climate change, nuclear standoffs with Iran and North Korea and the global economy. For the Chinese government, the tire dispute threatens an economic relationship crucial to China's economic growth. There was speculation before the decision that new tariffs could produce public pressure on Beijing to retaliate, potentially leading to a trade war. http://bit.ly/Chinese_trade_war

POPSSouth Korea Gets 40 U.S. Missiles For Destroyer - North Korea Threatens Japan I wonder if we just aren't giving N Korea every opportunity to develop a weapon they can and will use against S Korea. Thus, drawing the U.S. into a regional war again. Seems there is nothing short of declaring war ourselves that will stop the "idiot" little weasel of a dictator, Kim Jong-il, of N. Korea. Inevitably, any conflict with N. Korea will put the U.S. at odds with China. They don't publicly approve of all what N. Korea does, but the country does provide a buffer zone between the West and Communist China.

POPSNK threatens US; world anticipates missile I believe we've heard this from another member of "the axis of evil". And I read yesterday that the USS McCain was no longer following the vessel. Someone suggested that the hands of the US are tied because of our financial obligations to China...I hope that is not true.

POPSNK threatens to attack US, SKorean warships Also including "civilian vessels". FTA: Ambassadors from the five permanent veto-wielding council members - the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France - as well as Japan and South Korea were working out the details of a new resolution. The article also states that "It is a laughable delusion for the United States to think that it can get us to kneel with sanctions," it said. "We've been living under U.S. sanctions for decades,". I think we've arrived at the "test" the VP was warning us about. No one wants to take on Iran but someone better respond appropriately with NK and soon. They are a chief source for nuclear materials.

POPSMissile defense backers now citing Russia threat It is amazing - even on his way out of office Bush will continue to screw up US international relations. I think Madonna's video should have used Bush instead of McCain though both seem set on world domination. "Stupid is as stupid does" I suppose can summarize Bush's time in the White House.

POPSUS fell again in the annual Reporters Without Borders Worldwide Press Freedom Index. The land of the free, who's first amendment is free speech fell to 53rd place... (from 44th, last years score was 9.5, this year it is 13) You guys should get on that... Canada "rose" to 16th from 21st, but in reality our score stayed the same at 4.5. Info on how the list was compiled is here . The questionnaire that the "independent sources" used is here note the last paragraph: " The index should in no way be taken as an indication of the quality of the press in the countries concerned. " Though I think there may be some biased "independent sources", I think the list is useful... You often hear of the press either being coerced or "threatened", being censored, etc in the US (yes, it happens in Canada too, to a lesser degree). As leaders of the free world, western nations should be at the top of this list.. not at 16th (Canada) & 53rd (United Sta
