POPSThe master plan I can't deal with this country anymore. Norquist said one in six state lawmakers across the country has signed his Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Members of Congress, governors and attorneys general also have signed it. "I'm not voting for the budget because I signed a tax pledge; I'm not voting for the bill because raising taxes will devastate our economy for all Californians," said state Sen. Tony Strickland of Thousand Oaks, one of those who kept their word. Devastate what? You mean you're going to do everything to make sure the people don't raise taxes on the rich so they can ride out the financial crisis in style? Go devastate your face.

POPSPelosi Turns Back the Clock on House Reform
Moderate Democrats will be frozen out. The "pay-go" rules they fought so hard for two years ago -- to require new spending proposals be balanced with additional revenue or cuts elsewhere -- have been gutted. And no term limits will mean they will have to stand in line for a taste of real power. "All those nice pro-life, gun-owning young Democrats recruited to run by Rahm Emanuel will never have any real influence now," says Grover Norquist, head of Americans for Tax Reform. "They were useful in getting Democrats a majority but now they'll be in the back of the bus." Barack Obama ran for president pledging to end needless partisanship and to create "a new politics." He is at least making a stab at that by appointing a couple of cabinet members with Republican ties and consulting with GOP Congressional leaders. It's unsettling that his fellow Democrats on Capitol Hill seem intent on marching in a completely opposite direction. Mr. Fund is a columnist for WSJ.com.

POPSBush Can Act Unilaterally Without Congress
In order to contain the bailout and protect taxpayer dollars, companies should be able to use book accounting for assets deemed by the Treasury as “distressed” 3. Direct the Treasury Secretary to determine that capital basis can be adjusted for inflation by taxpayers. There is a body of legal thought which holds that the Treasury Department can do this by executive action. In order to free up needed capital and unlock frozen assets more easily, the Treasury should make this common sense change to tax rules. If there is a legal brief which details Treasury’s objections to capital basis indexation, it should be released for public dissemination. It’s important to note that all these actions can be done unilaterally by the Executive Branch. There are other reforms which require legislative action (note especially the House Republican Study Committee package), but the above executive steps would do much to alleviate the panic, assure markets, and protect taxpayers.

POPSThe Ron Paul counter-convention Media pitched "fracture" that never materialized during the DNC; Now there's a counter - rally of 10,000 people led by a Republican candidate, featuring Republican big names, in the same city as the RNC, and it doesn't make the news!

POPSMcCain VP Talk Turns To 2 Female Conservatives "She's got it all, and is a remarkable leader who brings a number of good qualities to the table," said Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America. Mrs. Palin is "a mother of five, is a genuine Alaskan, is a hunter, is a dog sledder, is very much for drilling for oil, has a great reform reputation, took on big oil on behalf of the people of Alaska," Mr. Gingrich said. "I think she would bring a level of excitement and uniqueness that people would have to stop and say, 'Boy, this is kind of intriguing.'"

POPSDownsizing Government to Death Keystone cops was modelled on groups like this. The govt denies the personel to carry out the checks properly. They can't even find what the problem is. They can't be expected to succeed without a huge amount of luck. Who will be poisoned next? Should be a Republican convention so they get to taste the results of spending all the money on invasions

POPSRon Paul's GOP Counter-Convention Continues to get his revolutionary message out that the GOP is way off the mark in regard to their own traditional republican principles of limited government and individual liberty which the neoconservatives have trampled entirely. The popularity of the message cannot be overlooked and demonstrates the latent great dissatisfaction with the presumptive party nominees of McCain and Obama (who is continuing the talk of the "war on terrorism" as if it is a legitimate and constitutional war--see comments on Afghanistan). This might be the year of the greatest number of alternative candidates on the Presidential ticket: Constitution Party, Libertarian Party, Green Party, will probably be on every state ballot.

POPSMoyers: Conservatives had their chance and Blew it!
On top of such bungled calamities as Iraq and Katrina… GEORGE W. BUSH: Again I want to thank you all for- and Brownie you're doing a heck of a job. BILL MOYERS: The conservative regime sent spending into the stratosphere…borrowed trillions from the future to pay for their agenda, and rewarded their wealthy base with huge tax cuts. Earmarks and contracts fattened lobbyists on K Street, which Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay honed into a ruthless shakedown machine exploited by conservative movement stars like Grover Norquist, Ralph Reed, and Jack Abramoff. JACK ABRAMOFF: Senator, I respectfully invoke the privileges previously stated. SEN. KENT CONRAD: And I'd say to you Mr. Abramoff, shame on you. BILL MOYERS: And after crusading for the impeachment of Bill Clinton, conservatives pushing family values turned out to be their own worst enemies. Some of their foot soldiers in politics and the religious right were outed for adultery, stalking Capitol Hill pages, soliciting sex. Be

POPSMcCain Tax Plan favors Wealthy, Offers Little For Middle Class Right wing tax cut zealot/activist Grover Norquist agrees that McCain's tax policies are farther right than even Bush's. "The McCain tax policy is to continue the Bush tax cuts and add three more, so I prefer McCain," he told Salon. "McCain's is bigger, better." When Grover Norquist is excited about a tax policy, it means that people who aren't rich would be screwed. It's practically a law of physics.

POPS McCain, Like Janus, The Two-Faced Roman God
"Wouldn't it be great if you get a chance to name somebody like Roberts and Alito?" one lawyer commented. McCain replied, "Well, certainly Roberts." Jaws were described as dropping. My sources cannot remember exactly what McCain said next, but their recollection is that he described Alito as too conservative. Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist is worried about a prominent journalist informing him that McCain a few years ago said to him, off the record, that as president he would have to raise taxes. McCain more recently has told me, on the record, he never would support a tax increase and, consequently, favors making permanent the Bush tax cuts. As Senate Indian Affairs Committee chairman, McCain in 2005 subpoenaed records of Norquist's dealings with Republican Jack Abramoff. Norquist said McCain held a grudge against him for campaigning against the senator's 2000 presidential bid. Norquist told me he has no personal animus and only wants assurance that McCain opposes higher taxes

POPSHow the U.S. Can Offer Medical Care to ALL Its Citzens, Just Like Other Countries Do This is a somewhat lengthy, but extremely well written article comparing the U.S. health care system to those of Canada, Germany and France. It even explains how as much as the Republicans refuse to consider the dirty words "Socialized Medicine," the best system we have in the U.S. above all is the VHA, which is a completely socialized system. I urge anyone with an interest in this topic to read the entire piece.

POPSChanging the ethics of the house Because we all know there is nothing more ethical than to be able to take your money. What is even more sneaky was the way they didn't change the rule, just added a new rule that allowed them to set aside the rules by a simply majority vote.
