Iran vs Israel: What The Media Wants You To Forget
katsteevns
by katsteevns  11-16-2009    2
 6. Contrary to face-saving claims, it appears that the US and Israel were both caught off guard by Iran's announcement. The reasoning is simple. Had the US or Israel announced the existence of he new facility before Iran's notified the IAEA, it would have put Iran on the defensive. As it is now, the US and Israel seem to be playing catch up, casting doubt on the veracity of Israel's claims to "know" that Iran is a nuclear threat.

Israel's nuclear capabilities - 25 Oct 09
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  10-30-2009
"While Israel is one of the loudest voices calling for a tougher line on Iran's nuclear programme, its own nuclear capability has never been put to inspection Israel has two nuclear research centres - at Dimona and Soreq. The latest estimates suggest that Israel has produced at least 118 warheads with weapons grade plutonium. The Jericho ballistic missiles are capable of carrying such weapons The Jericho One, which is now obsolete, had a range of 500 kilometres, and could carry a 20 kiloton nuclear warhead - 20 times more powerful than the US bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 The Jericho Two has a range of 1500 kilometres. It could just reach Iran - and is believed to be able to carry a one megaton nuclear bomb, which is 1,000 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. It is believed a Jericho Three missile is now being developed - that will be able to travel around 5,000 kilometres, bringing all of Iran and Europe into its range Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports

Hard to Imagine, Australia Brings Israel, Iran Together

of a nuclear-weapons-free zone in the Middle East. Contact between Israeli and Iranian officials is sporadic and only takes place at international forums - no formal meetings between the two countries have occurred since the 1979 Iranian revolution. Officials from Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and other regional countries also took part in the three-day meeting and it is believed the talks floated an idea for a further regional conference - possibly hosted by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon - to outline the broad aims of a treaty to create a Middle East nuclear-free zone. Similar ideas have stalled in the past over the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict and questions of security guarantees for Israel. But last month's talks in Egypt attempted to skirt such obstacles by focusing on proposals to safeguard any fissile material in the region that could potentially be used for nuclear weapons.

It seems that Iran has not only met its obligations, but exceeded them. "To ensure that appropriate safeguard measures are put in place, I would appreciate receiving, in accordance with Iran's Safeguards Agreement, further information with respect to the name and location of the pilot enrichment facility, the current status of its construction and plans for the introduction of nuclear material into the facility," continued the IAEA letter, signed by Herman Nackaerts, Director of IAEA's Division Of Operations Department Of Safeguards. "We kindly request that this information, along with the other information detailed in the attached design information questionnaire, be provided to the Agency as soon as possible. The Agency would also appreciate being given access to the facility as soon as possible."

Are we worth
reinhmr
by reinhmr  9-28-2009
Are we worthy of his oneness? Can we be mature enough to wait until the world stops laughing and starts to actually do something to help us? Notice that when it comes to taking about what Obama's concessions have actually gotten us he comes up with rather slim pickings. Russia and China "agreed to toughening sanction"? Really? I heard they said they would think about it. Given that Iran has been stiffing the international community for a couple of decades on this issue that they would have had enough time to think about it by now.

Obama’s U.N. Double Talk by Anne Bayefsky
merrie
by merrie  9-26-2009    1
The resolution we passed today will also strengthen the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty . We have made it clear that the Security Council has both the authority and the responsibility to respond to violations to this treaty. We’ve made it clear that the Security Council has both the authority and responsibility to determine and respond as necessary when violations of this treaty threaten international peace and security. That includes full compliance with Security Council resolutions on Iran and North Korea. Let me be clear: This is not about singling out individual nations. . . . e must demonstrate that international law is not an empty promise, and that treaties will be enforced. However, speaking today in Pittsburgh, Obama admitted that yesterday in Vienna, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France presented detailed evidence to the IAEA demonstrating that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been building a covert uranium . . .

UN Says No Nukes! Now What?
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  9-24-2009
I think this is big news. U.S. President Obama might consider this the high point of his foreign policy, right now. But "the devil is in the details," -- the reality remains to be seen -- and are all these world leaders going to continue to pretend that Israel doesn't have nukes? This resolution could be twisted to become another excuse to go to war with Iran? Make life difficult for Iran? Or maybe actual steps to get rid of the world threat of weapons that are too dangerous to use? Certainly, the propaganda would make us fear "Islamic terrorist," running around with nukes in a suitcase -- and on the other side of the coin the "secret," not to be mentioned by the West, possession of nuies by unreasonable zionist extremist doesn't set well with many.

Israel Claims UN's IAEA Withholding Info
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-29-2009
Israel, which has hundreds of secret illegal nukes and god knows what weapons of mass destruction...and has refused to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty...now accused the UN of withhold info and accused Iran of not abiding by "proper," nuclear policies. And it wants the USA and the West to go to war about this and/or cripple the Iranian economy. What's wrong with this picture? -- It's the opposite of the truth. The truth is Israel's secret and illegal nuclear weapons. But we're suppose to go to war because of empty claims of Iran's alleged "desire," for nuclear weapons. Israel is in no position to make such accusations or demand more wars. It's the one that should open it nuclear weapons programs to UN inspection (like Iran does). Supporting Israel is support collective punishment, apartheid, policies of genocide towards the Palestinians. It's best the worst mistake in USA modern history and in the EU, too. Israel is the active and real threat to world peace

Iran Cooperating on Nukes: U.S. Says No.
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-29-2009    1
Israel, U.S., France and other Western powers continue to dispute any reports than Iran is cooperating with the IAEA. While Israel has hundreds of illegal nuclear weapons and refuses to reveal any info about it, not a signatory to the nuclear Non_Proliferation Treaty....it wants to lead us into another war based on lies to a nation that has signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and has cooperated with the IAEA every step of the way for many years. But our corrosive and toxic news would have us believe otherwise. The old saying "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me," comes to mind.

Obama and Netanyahu Meet: What's Next? by Daniel Pipes

 (2) Larger strategic concerns consistently drive U.S. attitudes to Israel: Republicans kept their distance when they perceived Israel as a liability in confronting the Soviet Union (1948-70) and only warmed to it when Israel proved its strategic utility (after 1970); Democrats cooled in the post-Cold War period (after 1991), when many came to see it as an "apartheid" state that destabilizes the Middle East and impedes U.S. policies there. By now, the political parties diverge greatly; polls find Republican support for Israel exceeds Democratic support by an average margin of 26 percentage points. Likewise, Republicans endorse the United States helping Israel attack Iran far more than Democrats. Known in years past to stand up for Israel, he now accuses it of perpetuating "settler pogroms" and thus taking part in a "destructive dynamic." Question: Will the Democrats' critical views translate into a policy shift at the forthcoming summit meeting?

A Timid Advocate of Freedom
merrie
by merrie  4-22-2009    1
“the last best hope on earth” are what freedom’s friends would have expected to hear from our president when our nation was slandered. Instead he offered silence, smiles, and a handshake. Kim Jong Il launched a long-range missile on the very day President Obama addressed the world about the peril of nuclear proliferation. Not to be outdone by Kim Jong Il, President Ahmadinejad announced that his nation has successfully mastered every step necessary to enrich uranium, violating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty it has signed. So, like North Korea, Iran will have changed the world’s equation for peace and security: It will be capable of devastating Europe and America, and of annihilating Israel. And as with North Korea, the Obama administration chooses inaction --- Ahmadinejad can act with confidence that the forceful options once on our proverbial table have been shelved.

"I Know, Let's Cut Missile Defense If . . . Blah,Blah,Blah"
merrie
by merrie  4-5-2009    6
Iran would face “isolation, international pressure, and a potential nuclear arms race in the region that will increase insecurity for all.” And Obama said he would continue to pursue a missile-defense system in Europe as long as the Iranian nuclear threat existed – but suggested he would abandon it if Iran abandoned its nuclear pursuits. Though there is bipartisan support for many of the steps, Obama may face resistance from Republicans in the Senate on ratification of the Test Ban Treaty and other moves. Speaking to Iran, the other nation widely thought to be pursuing nuclear weapons, Obama reiterated his campaign pledge to engage the Tehran regime, winning applause for saying, “We believe in dialogue.” In his speech Obama laid out shorter-term steps, like beginning international talks on banning production of fissile material, could revive momentum on international arms control, despite potential resistance from Republicans in Congress.

WTF::Nuclear Agreements With Middle-East And United States???
merrie
by merrie  12-17-2008
crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met President George W. Bush at Camp David, according to people familiar with the visit. U.A.E. officials decided to delay the official signing over uncertainties about Mr. Obama's position and possible negative reaction from Congress, according to these officials. In 2006, the U.A.E.'s state-owned DP World had to scrap a plan to purchase the U.S. port holdings of Britain's P&O because of opposition in Congress. The nuclear trafficking network run by Pakistani scientist A.Q. Khan used Dubai in the U.A.E. as one of its major bases, according to investigations of the Khan network. U.S. officials, however, say the U.A.E. has taken major steps to better manage its export controls and guard against money laundering. US Approves Nuclear Deal with India

compare this to the US refusal to permit Iran to have nuclear civilian technology, even thought it complies to a higher standard than India apparently. Also... India has said it retains the right to conduct nuclear tests and this: allows India to expand its nuclear power industry without requiring it to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as other nations must. And India is next door to Pakistan, where the US is worried about terrorists.
