POPSThe GOP's Fatally Bad Judgement As if choosing Bush TWICE was not bad enough, especially after 9/11 and his close ties to the terrorist's family (google Arbusto Energy, if you are clueless), wars, huge deficits, and overall incompetence, now they are looking to Huckabee!? Will they never learn?

POPSHow to avoid the GOP's mistakes during the Bush years? All one has to do is act like a citizen first, not a party apparatchik or fan club devotee, which means nothing more than this: (1) If Obama takes action or makes a decision that you think is good and constructive, say so and give him credit; (2) If Obama takes action or makes a decision that you think is bad, wrong and/or destructive, say so and criticize him for it; (3) If there were things you claimed to find so horrible and wrong when Bush did them (indefinite detention, denial of habeas corpus, renditions, state secrets, endless wars, military commissions, compulsive secrecy), and Obama does them, apply the same standards. As Bob Herbert put it rather simply: "Policies that were wrong under George W. Bush are no less wrong because Barack Obama is in the White House."

POPSA Ripe Time For Florida's Marco Rubio "Rubio intends to prove that "in the most important swing state, you can run successfully as a principled conservative." When Florida politics come up I always encourage my friends to get out and support this man. He's the one!!!! Crist is a political climber of the worst kind. I believe, at heart, he is a Democrat (when once that was not a bad thing in Florida) but chose to run as a Republican because of a Jeb Bush strong Republican state. As one pundit pointed out, Crist never runs for re-election...he's climbing the ladder. Floridian conservatives need to take back the GOP flag...even if the Party Leadership is trying to play the political odds game.

POPSEd Meese, Far-Right Reaganite, Hired By GOP To Coordinate Sotomayor Attack From the article: But Meese was known above all for his unbending belief that the conservative movement needed to change the culture of the Supreme Court. He famously declared in 1985 that judges should be "expected to resist any political effort to depart from the literal provisions of the Constitution." Later, he would suggest that it was within the power of the president to circumvent Supreme Court decisions. And we now know were that kind of thinking has lead us. Iraq War anyone?

POPSGOP Losing Support Among Nearly All Demographic Groups I remember saying to myself back in 2000 that if there was anything positive that could come out of Dubya being president was that they would finally push things too far and the country would turn against them. Remember young Americans: when you think "Republicans", think Iraq, Katrina, massive corporate greed, the Patriot Act, the TSA, and Econopocalypse.

POPSThe Incredibly Shrinking GOP The GOP is losing support in nearly every major demographic subgroup except frequent churchgoers. It's becoming a party of religious fundamentalists. If that continues to be the trend, it will die on the vine. I used to think that is tragic, but I'm convinced that some other party will emerge to replace it. Democracy abhors the vacuum of single-party dominance.

POPSConservatives Obstructing key Obama nominees Department of Defense: Sens. Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) announced today that “they are blocking President Barack Obama’s nomination of Ashton Carter as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics.” The senators want assurances that Carter will not “change the criteria” on which the Pentagon considers a refueling tanker contract that could benefit defense contractors in their state. Department of Veterans Affairs: Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) asked the Senate Veterans Affairs committee to delay voting on the “nomination of Tammy Duckworth, an injured Iraq war helicopter pilot, to be an assistant secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs.” Contacted by ThinkProgress, Burr’s Press Secretary, David Ward said that Burr is waiting for the answers to several questions he’s put to the White House and Duckworth, but would not disclose what those questions were.

POPSMcCain Ad Touts Stem Cell Research – But Which Kind? In August, McCain told Pastor Rick Warren in a nationally televised interview from Saddleback Church in California that human rights begin “at the moment of conception.” According to the McCain campaign Web site, the Republican nominee – who claims a 25-year pro-life voting record – opposes “the intentional creation of human embryos for research purposes.” However, while he was campaigning for the GOP nomination, McCain professed his belief in the promise of embryonic stem cell research. Stem cells obtained from adult humans have been widely acclaimed for their ability to promote human health and stave off dreaded illnesses. Stem cells obtained from human embryos, however, have not been successful in yielding results in scientific research thus far.

POPSGingrich 2012? Meanwhile, Washington Post has the numbers: In a Gallup poll after the November election, Republicans and GOP-leaning independents split evenly on the question of whether the former speaker should seek their party's nomination; 47 percent said they'd like to see him run, 47 percent would prefer he sit out. I think that's the definition of "lukewarm."

POPSKilling That Little Monkey 3. What we have here, on the part of the NY Post, is a repeat of what Hillary Clinton did late in the primaries. Frustrated the contest was slipping away, she drew a connection between Obama's nomination and the assassination of Robert Kennedy. (See BNN's: Killing The Electricity.) In that case, she was trolling for votes by way of the scare tactic that Obama's charisma, paired with his race, made him a less likely bet in terms of his "durability." In this case, The Post is flat out playing on hate, taking aim at Obama (and blacks in general, as the monkey is black) by way of GOP hostility to the stimulus bill. 4. To the extent Bush was widely and broadly identified with the chimp (1, 2, 3, etc.), not to mention the historic destruction of the American economy, one very insidious thing the image does -- in proposing/swapping Obama for The Chimpster -- is to start to unravel the association.

POPSPalin in '12 OK, I'm up for it, you betcha! I'm wondering though how 64% of Republicans want her to run for president. Perhaps it's due to election shock?

POPSSoftware for Politics "'Anonymous,' best known for its jousts with Scientology, has apparently hacked Sarah Palin's private Yahoo email account. Contents, including sample emails, an index, and family photos, have been posted by Wikileaks, which calls them evidence that the GOP vice presidential candidate has improperly used private email to shield government business from public scrutiny." Note that there is no easy way to tell if the material on Wikileaks is genuine or a hoax. Update by J : Genuine. privacy, politics, usa, slashdotted, haha (tagging beta)

POPSMSNBC Removes Matthews And Olbermann From Anchor Seat So this new move is supposed to offer Olbermann and Matthews more freedom of expression. Olbermann’s strong left views and his harsh exchanges of words with other MSNBC hosts have been in the headlines all summer. He had no sympathy when GOP expressed anger at Internet news about Sarah Palin’s personal life. He also sarcastically dismissed Republican pundit Pat Buchanan on the air, after Buchanan said he thought the GOP had been enlivened by Sarah Palin’s vice presidential nomination. Moreover, he also couldn’t help mocking his own colleagues. As Joe Scarborough was discussing the positive developments in McCain’s campaign, Olbermann could be heard in the background, saying: “Jesus, Joe, why don't you get a shovel?” Representatives of New York Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and, more recently, Republican presidential nominee John McCain, have objected to NBC executives about the two commentators.

POPSHow Do The Hillary Fans Feel About The Palin Pick? Interesting thread on the Hillary Clinton forum entitled: Action Items: 1) Donate to McCain to affirm Palin pick; 2) Stay vigilant for all sexism against Palin Comments on the thread pretty much show what many of us suspected. Obama made a huge, freakin HUGE mistake not even vetting Hillary. If Hillary had been chosen as the VP he would have become the next President…but his arrogance and ego wouldn’t let him. And for that, I thank you Barack Obama Watch the :22 sec. "Sweetie" video.
