do who I say, not what I do
fudomyoo
by fudomyoo  12-30-2009
in closing: "I've long thought that the solution to the cheap, cost-free moralizing that leads very upstanding people like Karl Rove to want to ban same-sex marriages (which they don't want to enter into themselves, and thus cost them nothing) is to have those same "principles" apply consistently to all marriage laws. If Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh and their friends and followers actually were required by law to stay married to their wives -- the way that "traditional marriage" was generally supposed to work -- the movement to have our secular laws conform to "traditional marriage" principles would almost certainly die a quick, quiet and well-deserved death." http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/pages/2010-California-Protection-of-Marriage-Act/

Will GOP Call to Repeal Health Care Bill?
dl211
by dl211  12-30-2009    1
Repealing the health care bill, however, would take more than winning back a few congressional seats. Just as the Republican minority in the Senate has stalled the current health care debate, a Democratic minority could do the same to any repeal measure unless Republicans were able to pull together at least a 60-vote majority. The GOP would also have to overcome the strong majority Democrats now have in the House. Even if they were to win both chambers back, President Obama could veto any repeal measure at least through 2012. "Anyone who thinks they'll be able to repeal ObamaCare is kidding themselves," Michael Cannon, director of health policy studies at the libertarian Cato Institute, told the Washington Independent. "If they want to stop it, they need to stop it now."

Obama's Push for Copenhagen Deal Could Violate Constitution
merrie
by merrie  12-16-2009
the White House is flirting with the possibility of taking action without Congress. Last week, on the day the climate summit opened in Denmark, the EPA formally declared that greenhouse gases including carbon dioxide are a danger to human health -- a finding that could pave the way for massive new regulations under the Clean Air Act for cars, power plants, crude-oil refineries and chemical plants. Democratic Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, co-author of the House climate change bill, told Fox News that the Obama administration has the power to act without Congress through the EPA...... foxnews.com/politics/ http://bit.ly/8czisQ

Top 10 GOP Moderate Moments (via Rush)
jatfla
by jatfla  11-3-2009    2
As I was in the car I switched him on and he was just beginning his countdown. Yes. Either the 'moderates' form their own party or the true conservatives must. I'm tired of voting for the lesser of the 2 evils and violating my true convictions. While these 'moderate' Republicans may be very nice people with good intentions...few actually shared my values. And he's right! The #1 'moderate' revealed so much about himself.

NRCC, RNC & Gingrich Back Margaret Sanger Award Winner
merrie
by merrie  10-16-2009    1
you might want to ask for your money back. As I mentioned in my column post on the NY23 special election, the NRCC is using conservatives’ money to back a radical leftist and attack a bona fide, viable conservative candidate for Congress in a safe Republican district. Gingrich has endorsed the radical leftist. Now comes word from CQ that the Republican National Committee has made a “six-figure transfer” of funds to the NRCC to support Scozzafava: In addition to Scozzafava’s radical leftist record that I outlined this morning, Scozzafava is the proud recipient of the Margaret Sanger Award from New York family planners. Yes, that Margaret Sanger.

Paul Krugman: The politics of spite
Lexica
by Lexica  10-5-2009    9
More: How did one of our great political parties become so ruthless, so willing to embrace scorched-earth tactics even if so doing undermines the ability of any future administration to govern? The key point is that ever since the Reagan years, the Republican Party has been dominated by radicals — ideologues and/or apparatchiks who, at a fundamental level, do not accept anyone else’s right to govern. Anyone surprised by the venomous, over-the-top opposition to Mr. Obama must have forgotten the Clinton years. Remember when Rush Limbaugh suggested that Hillary Clinton was a party to murder? When Newt Gingrich shut down the federal government in an attempt to bully Bill Clinton into accepting those Medicare cuts? And let’s not even talk about the impeachment saga.… It’s an ugly picture. But it’s the truth. And it’s a truth anyone trying to find solutions to America’s real problems has to understand.

Could Texas’ Gingrish-based High School History Curriculum Go National?
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  9-7-2009
Okay parents, you want to worry about a politician brainwashing your kid? This is where we need to fight back. Why should the rest of the country worry about what textbooks are use din Texas? Because Texas is one of the two states with the largest student enrollments, along with California. "The publishers vie to get their books adopted for them, and the changes that are inserted to please Texas and California are then part of the textbooks made available to every other state," says Diane Ravitch, professor of education at NYU, who wrote a book about the politics of textbooks.

President Obama Should Fire Attorney General Eric Holder: Newt Gingrich
merrie
by merrie  8-29-2009    3
Americans could be forgiven for believing, on the basis of shamefully twisted mainstream media coverage, that the recently revealed 2004 CIA Inspector-General report at the center of this controversy is merely a cataloging of CIA abuse. But in fact, the report methodically described a carefully limited and, with a few exceptions, faithfully implemented program of enhanced interrogation techniques - techniques that yielded what the report itself deems valuable results. The report also details the exceptions, cases in which interrogation techniques were used that were outside the carefully developed regime. But here is the crucial fact for Holder: All of the allegations of unauthorized methods - all of them - have already been carefully evaluated by career prosecutors. These were legal officials who, unlike Holder, do not owe their jobs to any partisan political figure. Impartial prosecutors evaluated 20 incidents of unauthorized activity and decided against taking legal

Palin's Poison
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  8-10-2009    5
It’s bad enough that a supposedly intelligent adult can find a way to actually believe that our federal government would call for the death of American citizens in order to save money for health care, but for an elected official, representing and entire state to think this way is just over the top. This kind of thinking goes against any chance of rational debate. And then there’s Newt Gingrich actually defending Palin’s remarks in public, and apparently without shame. No wonder the general view of our political system is one of the inmates running the asylum.

10 Reasons Why Republicans Seldom Serve in the Military
foxyarse
by foxyarse  8-3-2009    3
Here are 10 reasons why so few Republicans show up at the military induction center. 1. World War Two was the last white war. A war fought with a large white participation. Korea saw a growth in minority participation, but by the time of Vietnam, class distinctions had grown, and war was mainly fought by a collection of white trash southern hillbillies, whites on the run from the law in the States, and blacks and Mexicans. War became a half-way house for those perceived as losers, while increasing numbers of whites decided to spend their time going to college on student deferments and amassing cash in lucrative careers. 2. Many white right-wingers, while they won’t admit it, don’t like blacks because they consider them to be lowly niggers. They don’t want to eat next to one in the mess hall, and certainly not sleep under one in a bunk bed. 3. Most right wing successful politicians and pundits got where they are because they focused on the prize, advancing themselves. The
