How easy is it to gather $1 each from 10000 people?
ownyourlifeblog
by ownyourlifeblog  11-7-2009
Still working on this project to raise funds for the aboriginal children education. How much more time we have? Only about 30 more hours to go. It is our last call. We set a high target, but we believe it is worth trying. After all, we need only $1 each from 10000 people by end of tomorrow. :) I am sure there are heaps of people out there who are ready to offer a hand if they got to know about this. For the sceptic, check this out. It is an official fund-raising event by one of the leading newspapers in Australia, the Sun-Herald. It is fair dinkum.

In defense of jaywalking
Lexica
by Lexica  11-6-2009    1
More: today the word jaywalking is often used as a sort of blanket justification for the dominating presence of cars on city streets. It also reflects a social bias against those people not in cars. (Note this comment in a Federal Highway Administration report: "Still, almost no one can avoid occasional pedestrian status," as if they were discussing exposure to a venereal disease.) …the Netherlands, which has essentially legalized jaywalking, has an enviable pedestrian safety record. …Finally, read newspapers very carefully. A number of studies have documented that media coverage of traffic crashes is selective, framed in certain predictable ways, and often misrepresents the true frequency or nature of actual risk. Jaywalking makes better copy for columnists than actually probing the complex nature of traffic safety.

Hollywood Actor Robert Pattinson Can't Compete With Edward Cullen
opu1537
by opu1537  11-3-2009
Ready to get up close with Robert Pattinson? Don't break your necks shaking your head too vigorously, ladies. The actor is featured in USA Weekend, a USA Today-sponsored section that appears in multiple newspapers nationwide. Not bad for a guy almost no one had heard of two years ago.] On New Moon: "Making this movie, it's almost as if people have become more concerned with what the fans want the more successful it becomes. The first one seemed more relaxed than this one, and that one wasn't particularly relaxed." On fame: On his fame: "I'll probably realize afterward how I could have controlled it a little bit more. But I am still like a deer in

The terrorists at Club Gitmo don't want to leave
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  11-1-2009    3
Obvious. What else more could they want? They have personal chefs, TVs, remote controls, beach volleyball, a library overlooking the ocean, scenic views, free laundry service, new prayer rugs to pray to Allah.....and they're getting the H1N1 vaccine before you. The libs want them out of Cuban Clown College as long as they're nowhere near their Manhattan penthouses or vacation spots in the Vineyard. As if splashing water on their damn faces is going to scare them off.....PUH-LEASE. Gitmo should be rebranded so that liberals wouldn’t reflexively scream “TORTURE!” every time they heard it’s name. How about "Misfired Martyrs Motel" or "Viva la Incarceracion!"?

Will AMERICA wake up too late?
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  10-31-2009    2
Nothing so epitomizes President Obama’s own contempt for American values and traditions as trying to ram two bills through Congress in his first year — each bill more than a thousand pages long — too fast for either of them to be read, much less discussed.

Dismantling America by Thomas Sowell
merrie
by merrie  10-30-2009    4
life and death decisions about your loved ones? Does any of this sound like America? How about a federal agency giving school children material to enlist them on the side of the president? Merely being assigned to sing his praises in class is apparently not enough. How much of America would be left if the federal government continued on this path? President Obama has already floated the idea of a national police force, something we have done without for more than two centuries. We already have local police forces all across the country and military forces for national defense, as well as the FBI for federal crimes and the National Guard for local emergencies. What would be the role of a national police force created by Barack Obama, with all its leaders appointed by him? It would seem more like the brown shirts of dictators than like anything American. Those who say that the Obama administration should have investigated those people more thoroughly before appointing .

Dismantling America
jatfla
by jatfla  10-28-2009    1
Great comments Dr. Sowell. FTA: "Had it not been for the Fox News Channel, these stealth appointees might have remained unexposed for what they are." And he tells us that how much Obama succeeds in his dismantling of America will depend on how much resistance he meets. The resistance is mounting and it's time for a complete roll.

U.S. Had Covert Ties to Paki-based Terrorist in Iran Bombing
blueridge
by blueridge  10-24-2009
The terrorist behind the Iran bombing recently was a former covert operative per Robert Baer, former CIA agent of Syriana fame. This is not unlike the former ties with Al Qaeda and bin Laden as covert operatives and "CIA brainchilds". Of course, this was done for provocatory purposes to spark Iran-British-U.S. conflict....and it appears to be working for this design. See Telegraph UK article: Iran vows revenge after claiming bomb attack was carried out by Britain A bomb attack on Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard that killed over 40 people including top generals was carried out by terrorists trained by America and Britain in nearby Pakistan , a senior commander said on Monday. See, "state-sponsored terrorism" can be alleged both ways.
