POPSHow Barack Obama Played the Race Card and Blamed Hillary Clinton February 27, 2008
The Obama mass mailings also attempt to appeal to Ohio's labor vote by claiming that Clinton believed that the North American Free Trade Agreement, signed in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, was a "'boon' to our economy." More falsehood: In fact, Clinton had not said that; Newsday originally applied the word "boon" and has now noted the Obama campaign's distortion. In this campaign, Clinton has called for a moratorium on all trade agreements until they are made consistent with labor and environmental standards-- Ignoring all that, the Obama flyer features an alarming photograph of closed plant gates, having no connection to any action of Senator Clinton's, as well as the dubious quotation about her from Newsday in 2006. Newsday has criticized "Obama's use of the quotation" as "misleading ... an example of the kind of slim reeds campaigns use to try and win an office." As insidious as these tactics are, though, the Obama campaign's most effective . . . . .

POPSDeli owner thwarrs robbery, then gives thief money Regardless of whatever faith Mr. Sohail may or may not ascribe to, that was an act that exemplifies true Christian behaviour. To forgive, and then give a helping hand is a truly beautiful thing that I hope those of any faith or belief will find inspiring. Mohammad Sohail, you are one class act.

POPS'Montauk Monster' May Have Been Kidnapped "I wouldn't be surprised if it were real and I wouldn't be surprised if it were fake," Leda Ross told a reporter at O'Murphy's Pub in Montauk before turning to her husband Mike to ask, "What do you think?" "I think I'll have another drink," he replied.

POPSMurdoch Thwarted This is a surprising turn of events. Murdoch was willing to offer $580 million for Newsday because he could combine the paper with his New York Post and save a bunch of money. Dolan's Cablevision lacks the same synergy opportunities with Newsday but he was willing to pay $70 million more. There's no good explanation why so far, but a lot of people are wondering.

POPSClinton "Victim" Defense Apparently Backfires The trouble began when Clinton waffled on a debate question about Gov. Eliot Spitzer's plan to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. The story gained new life two days later when Clinton said it wasn't easy competing in "the all-boys' club" of presidential politics. The political fallout from the episode remains unclear. Clinton sagged in a CNN national poll and a New Hampshire poll taken by Rasmussen, but preserved double-digit leads. She maintained a 21-point lead in yesterday's NBC/Wall Street Journal poll despite low marks for honesty, likability and sharing her positions on issues. "You start off the campaign by saying you're the toughest one out there. And then you whine about everything?" said Joe Trippi, a John Edwards aide.

POPS The "Old Grey Lady" Is Senile According to the NY Times website, Clark Hoyt is the Public Editor and the reader's representative for the paper. Not that it might do much good, but I would be tickled pink if many of the readers and posters here, and especially those in the Empire state, would make their voices heard. Perchance we may get an apology (not holding my breath). He can be found at: public@nytimes.com or (212) 556-7652

POPSFood: 5-second rule should be 30-sec. rule! (8 Jun 2007) I always assumed 5 seconds was too *long*! Very cool. I love findings like this that challenge our uptight, germophobe attitudes. Parents, let your kids play outdoors and drink from the toilet bowl ;) (Yes, there's also a study showing that many toilet bowls are as clean as bottled water. Wish I'd had Clipmarks when I read that -- it's long gone offline.)

POPSMore Christian Right Lies Newt spews forth lies of Christian persecution to Liberty U graduates. And after being indoctrinated for 4 years they apparently eat it up. Gullibility, it seems, is much easier to teach than rational thought.
