Is Dissent ‘Legitimate’? Not According to Campaign Finance Laws by Bert Gall and Robert Frommer -- Pajamas Media After the administration decreed that Fox is not a “legitimate news organization” and that people shouldn’t watch it, more people than ever are tuning in to see Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly fight back. Fundamentally, it’s because the administration’s media war against Fox is but a minor display of the tremendous power the government has to stifle speech it views as illegitimate. Much of this power is the result of long-standing “campaign finance” laws. These laws impose all sorts of restrictions on political speech, and it’s no coincidence that the most draconian of these restrictions are targeted at those who can speak the most effectively against a politician’s reelection. The most effective speakers tend to be those who can spend the most money. Corporations, many of which have lots of money, receive particularly harsh treatment under

POPSYes Men Pull Off Chamber Of Commerce Hoax On Climate Change It turns out, that an email press release was just one component of the hoax. In addition, the fake group managed to secure space at the prestigious National Press Club to host a "press conference" announcing its change in climate change position, according to the real Chamber. Several reporters were in attendance, I'm told, unaware that this was all a big joke. The event would have gone off without a hitch except for the fact that an actual Chamber spokesman was tipped off to the shenanigans and moved quickly to break it up. A reporter interested in covering what she thought was a real event inadvertently showed up at the Chamber's office on H Street instead of the press club. UPDATE: A source close to the infamous pranksters, The Yes Men, claims that the group was behind today's hoax and will be sending along a press release and video shortly. Stay tuned!

The acting Assistant Atty General for civil rights Loretta King, a career senior executive service official named by President Obama to temporarily fill the position, ordered a delay after a meeting between political appointees and career supervisors. That included the identification of Jose Padilla and Binyam Muhammed, who planned to detonate a dirty bomb, and the arrest of previously unknown members of an al Qaeda cell in Karachi, Pakistan, designated to pilot an aircraft attack in the U.S. The information also made the CIA aware of plots to attack the U.S. consulate in Karachi, hijack aircraft to fly into Heathrow, loosen track spikes to derail a U.S. train, blow up U.S. gas stations, fly an airplane into a California building, and cut the lines of suspension bridges in New York.
