Only when you get to Obama’s page do you learn that Obama a) wasn’t president, and b) didn’t make any speech at the site of the Wall last year when he campaigned for the U.S. presidency in Europe. In remembrance on the 8th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on Washington and New York, our president …. sent Joe Biden to Ground Zero in New York City. Deliberate ignorance: The British press was out front (HT Hot Air) in telling the world that the perpetrator of the Fort Hood attack “worshiped at a mosque led by a radical imam said to be a ’spiritual adviser’ to three of the hijackers who attacked America on Sept 11, 2001.” That the attack was jihad-inspired is not open to real dispute. Meanwhile, the PC-addled American press does all it can to minimize the enormity (HT Mark Finkelstein at NewsBusters) of what occurred at Fort Hood and makes excuses for the perpetrator, even to the point of claiming that he might (even though he never experienced

Running Doc: How to prevent "marathon feet"
Lexica
by Lexica  11-6-2009
More: Here are some things you can do to prevent and/or treat "marathon feet": * Train on the same surface you plan to run on. If you are training for a marathon on roads, the treadmill or a soft track will not prepare your body for the pounding… * After the race, and you are urinating normally…you may take (e.g., aspirin or ibuprofen) unless your doctor has told you that you cannot due to a contraindication. * Most important: Immediately upon returning home or to your hotel post-race, soak your feet for 15 minutes in an ice bath. This is the best way to avoid this middle-of-the-night pain. Now, if you have pain the Monday after the event, 15-minute ice baths three times a day and may be necessary for two days to ease the inflammation. If you feel bony tenderness, see a doctor sooner than later -- what you have may not be "marathon feet" but rather a stress or full fracture of a bone in your foot.

Norton, Morissette, Masekela and More Race to NYC Marathon Finish Line
opu1537
by opu1537  11-3-2009
Edward Norton took home the gold medal at the New York City Marathon today—in the actors, musicians and performers category, that is. Norton finished the 26-mile race in an astonishing 3 hours, 48 minutes and 1 second. The 40-year-old Fight Clubber referred to his first experience as "phenomenal," participating on behalf of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, a Kenya-based charitable organization. The Strokes bass player Nikolai Fraiture and The Biggest Loser record-breaker Tara Costa both pounded the New York pavement as well, finishing just 26 seconds apart at the 4-hour, 23-minute mark.

Lady Gaga Receiving Stylemaker Award
opu1537
by opu1537  11-3-2009
Never one to disappoint when it comes to unique ensembles, Lady GaGa was all decked out as she attended the 13th Annual 2009 ACE Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City on Monday night (November 2). Presented by the Accessories Council, GaGa happened to be among the evening’s honorees - as she was presented with the Stylemaker Award during the course of the swanky ceremony. Retailers have even started carrying gaga-esque accessories like headbands, gloves, and jewelry. Not to mention, it seems as though Lady Gaga is one of the most popular Halloween costumes this year. We’re still waiting on her line The House of GaGa to be released. And when it does, we’re sure it will send shock waves into the fashion world.

Finishing fourth in the men's category was another American, Ryan Hall. Hall, 27, is a rising star on the world running circuit and made headlines last year by running the London marathon in a stunning 2:06:17. Americans once dominated long-distance running, bringing home consecutive gold medals from 1970-82. Marathon legend Bill Rodgers won the New York City four years in a row from 1976 to 1979, and Alberto Salazar took walked away with successive victories from 1980-82. The marathon, which began in 1970 with a mere 127 runners, now hosts 38,000 athletes from around the globe, according to the marathon's Web site. Known for its diverse, punishing terrain, the annual event spans all five of New York's City's boroughs, finishing in the heart of Central Park. Keflezighi and Tulu will each receive $130,000 in prize money.

USS New York: "Strength Forged Through Sacrifice. Never Forget."
merrie
by merrie  11-2-2009    1
At the prow - prominent and proud like the twin towers themselves - is a 19-foot-long bow stem, forged from 7.5 tons of Trade Center steel. Up from its homeport in Norfolk, Va., the ship will begin its New York odyssey with entry into the harbor about 7:30 this morning. At 8, there will be a 21-gun salute at Ground Zero. Then the New York will sail up the Hudson to the George Washington Bridge, turn around about 9:30 and dock at Pier 88, near 48th St. Along the route, thousands of New Yorkers are expected to greet their namesake. Prominent will be cops, firefighters and other responders, people who survived the conflagration and survivors of those who did not - brave souls to whom the ship is a floating memorial. For the living heroes and for 9/11 families, special privileges are due. They will have exclusive onboard visiting hours, a private reception and tickets to the shipboard commissioning ceremony Saturday.

The Secret Shadow Government
kareval
by kareval  10-31-2009    2
Just as with the official government, the secret government has functional branches. Just as with the official government, the Shadow Government has functional branches. However, unlike the official government, the purpose of the non-executive branches of the Shadow Government is simply to distribute various functions, but not to achieve a system of checks and balances, as was supposed to happen constitutionally between the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the U. S. Government. That is because the Shadow Government is a creature of a powerful elite, who need not fear being dominated by an instrument of their own creation.
