Swine flu immunity from a vitamin? I think if it's the right stuff in the pill maybe you can build up your immune system. The right stuff means the ingredients have to be REAL - not made by some scientist.

Obama’s Energy Czar: Socialist Agent For World Government Socialist International
merrie
by merrie  10-18-2009    1
Barack Obama’s “climate czar" Carol Browner has been exposed as being a member of Socialist International, a highly influential group headed by a Bilderberg Group luminary that calls for the implementation of global government, despite Socialist International’s attempts to seemingly “memory-hole” information about Browner on their website. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that Obama and his cabinet are preparing to exploit fearmongering about global warming to push new measures of taxation, regulation and internationalism. Obama himself has vigorously promoted the revival of a bill that would slash carbon emissions by 80 per cent, a move that would inflict a new Great Depression, cost millions of jobs, and sink America to near third world status. Obama has also publicly stated his intention to create a new infrastructure of “green brigades” and informants to regulate every aspect of our behavior in the name of saving in the name of saving . . .

The Sordid Story Of A Global Con ~ (Warming)
merrie
by merrie  10-4-2009    1
The second was a tree ring curve from the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia, compiled by UK scientist Keith Briffa. Briffa had published a paper in 1995 claiming that the medieval period actually contained the coldest year of the millennium. But this claim depended on just three tree ring records (called cores) from the Polar Urals. Later, a colleague of his named F. H. Schweingruber produced a much larger sample from the Polar Urals, but it told a very different story: The medieval era was actually quite warm and the late 20th century was unexceptional. Briffa and Schweingruber never published those data, instead they dropped the Polar Urals altogether from their climate reconstruction papers. In its place they used a new series that Briffa had calculated from tree ring data from the nearby Yamal Peninsula that had a pronounced Hockey Stick shape: relatively flat for 900 years then sharply rising in the 20th century. … But an even more disquieting discovery soon came t

Immortality only 20 years away says scientist
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  9-22-2009    12
No thanks, I don't want to live forever. "Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively. "Within 25 years we will be able to do an Olympic sprint for 15 minutes without taking a breath, or go scuba-diving for four hours without oxygen. "Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive. "Nanotechnology will extend our mental capacities to such an extent we will be able to write books within minutes. "If we want to go into virtual-reality mode, nanobots will shut down brain signals and take us wherever we want to go. Virtual sex will become commonplace. And in our daily lives, hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening. "So we can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs."

Lawsuit Over Research Monkeys Mistreatment
dmoonme1
by dmoonme1  9-19-2009
The same old story. "Yes you did". "No I didn't". As a scientist in research myself (Bio-Chem), I know all too well what goes on in those labs, And I am glad to see someone is investigating these horrific atrocities committed upon these innocent creatures in the name of scientific research. There is nothing scientific about it. It is just maiming and torture under the disguise of surgery. I find this sort of thing absolutely disgusting. There is a related story on the same page. Click on the link to view that and the accompanying video. I think what irritated me in the first place was that this is going on in my home town, and is related to my line of work. These methods are becoming more antiquated as we progress further into the 21st century.

Chlorophyll Eye Drops Give Night Vision
cakebelly
by cakebelly  9-9-2009    2
In 2004, Ilyas Washington, an ophthalmic scientist at Columbia University Medical Center, came across Douglas’s findings. Washington knew that the mechanisms involved in vision tend to be similar throughout the animal kingdom, so he wondered whether chlorophyll could also enhance the vision of other animals, including humans. His latest experiments in mice and rabbits suggest that administering chlorophyll to the eyes can double their ability to see in low light. The pigment absorbs hues of red light that are normally invisible in dim conditions. That information is then transmitted to the brain, allowing enhanced vision. Washington is now developing ways to deliver chlorophyll to human eyes safely and easily, perhaps through drops. He believes that a night-vision drug would be most useful on the battlefield, so it is no surprise that the U.S. Department of Defense is funding his work. “The military would want this biological enhancement so they don’t have to carry nighttime goggles

David Grann, "Trial by Fire: Did Texas Execute an Innocent Man?" (on Todd Willingham's execution, Feb. 2005), The New Yorker (Sept. 7, 2009)
enbar
by enbar  9-7-2009    4
A damning piece by The New Yorker on the story of Todd Willingham. Willingham was executed in 2005 for triple homicide after being convicted of killing his three children by setting their room on fire. Texas officials ignored reports by fire scientists, whose investigations showed that there had been no solid evidence that the fire was arson. The arson investigators who testified in Willingham's case relied on traditional methods whose scientific validity had long ago been disproven, and the parole board apparently did not even bother to read the exonerating information provided to them by Willingham's lawyer.

Ditching binary will make quantum computers more powerful
dopesick
by dopesick  9-2-2009
Brilliant! Jonathan Home at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado, says Neeley's team needs to extend its basic system in such a way that two or more qudits can transport information between them, which would allow more complex computational operations to be undertaken. "Designing the sort of system where two qudits interact, but still retain the interesting properties of a five-level system, will be a major challenge," Home says. Did he say "challenge"? I bet we're going to see this working anytime soon.
