Swine Flu New Vaccine Has Not Been Sufficiently Tested
merrie
by merrie  8-16-2009    1
It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when: More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu. 500 cases of GBS were detected. The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times. The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear. The US Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected. Concerns have already been raised that the new vaccine has not been sufficiently tested and that the effects, especially on children, are unknown. It is being developed by pharmaceutical companies and will be given to about 13million people during the first wave of immunisation, expected to start in October. Top priority will be given to everyone aged six months to 65 with an underlying health problem, pregnant women and health professionals. The British Neurological Surveillance Unit (BNSU), part of the British Association of Neurologists .

Ten things you're not supposed to know about the swine flu vaccine
katsteevns
by katsteevns  7-28-2009    4
#4 - Doctors still don't know why the 1976 swine flu vaccines paralyzed so many people. And that means they really have no clue whether the upcoming vaccine might cause the same devastating side effects. (And they're not testing it, either...) #5 - Even if the swine flu vaccine kills you, the drug companies aren't responsible. The U.S. government has granted drug companies complete immunity against vaccine product liability. Thanks to that blanket immunity, drug companies have no incentive to make safe vaccines, because they only get paid based on quantity, not safety (zero liability).

MSG: the secret behind the savor
Lexica
by Lexica  7-26-2009    1
More: I made two versions of pad kee mao, with and without Maggi, and while both were good, the one with MSG had the kind of round flavor I’d normally associate with homemade chicken stock or some form of professional expertise. Tasted straight, though, the sauces had the chemical, tangy aftertaste common to many processed foods. “Too much MSG and you get that harsh, acrid taste,” said Mr. Pelaccio, who uses an empty barrel of Ajinomoto-brand MSG he found on the street as a plant stand in his Chinatown apartment. “But get it just right and that dish will sing.”… The role of MSG in food, and its effects on health, remain controversial…MSG is blamed by some groups for a range of serious neurological and physiological disorders…But no large-scale clinical research has been done since the F.D.A.’s 1995 review.

Green tea may help snorers sleep easy
pokkets
by pokkets  5-20-2008    2
One of my biggest problems is that my dog Lani snores. She doesn't like tea. I like green tea with Jasmine. I'm going to make a cup when I've posted this. It's that time of day. The chemicals in green tea may protect the snorers from damage caused by free radicals that are in excess as a result of sleep apnoea, but they still can't help anyone who is listening. These catechin polyphenols help sufferers, and no doubt victims of oxygen deprivation. A compound using them as an active ingredient may also be used as part of the first aid kits that assist CPR, in drowning and heart attack victims. I don't know if that's on the agenda, but the quicker an overload of free radicals can be neutralized, the better. It may in many cases reduce some of the serious brain damage in survivors. (You'd have to check that with a pharmacologist)

Gut hormone makes food look even yummier
jetcloud
by jetcloud  5-7-2008    1
"It has also been well established that ghrelin activates feeding through its effects on the hypothalamus, where ghrelin receptors are densely concentrated. However, ghrelin also has specific effects on many brain regions implicated in reward and motivation. , food pictures become even more salient—people actually see them better. It influences not only visual processing, but also memory. People remembered the food pictures better when ghrelin was high.”"

Sweet Misery: Aspartame Documentary
WIDEEYECINEMA
by WIDEEYECINEMA  3-2-2008
Dr. Woodrow C. Monte wrote: “Methanol has no therapeutic properties and is considered only as a toxicant. The ingestion of two teaspoons is considered lethal in humans” (Monte, Woodrow, “Aspartame: Methanol and the Public Health”, Journal of Applied Nutrition, Vol. 36, Number 1, 1984, p. 44). Though it can hardly be considered good fortune to have an immediate reaction to aspartame, at least you are spared the potential long-term ticking time-bomb of a large array of neurological illnesses. These include, but are not limited to Brain Cancer, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Graves Disease, Chronic Fatigue, MS and Epilepsy.

"Chemo Brain" Explained?
gingembre
by gingembre  12-4-2006
"Noble and his team are quick to point out that no one should avoid cancer treatment because of these results and that chemotherapy will remain a cornerstone of cancer therapy for the foreseeable future. Instead, they believe that the opportunity for the scientific community is to use this knowledge to develop ways to protect the brain’s cells from these drugs." "Noble and his team exposed several different populations of healthy brain cells as well as multiple human cancer cell lines to clinically relevant levels of three commonly used chemotherapy drugs – carmustine, cisplatin, and cytosine arabinoside. These drugs are used to treat a wide range of cancers, including certain types of breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, and, in the case of carmustine, brain tumors. They discovered that these drugs were far more toxic to the healthy brain cells than to cancer cells...
