Taking High Anxiety To Another Level
debbyski
by debbyski  7-23-2009    1
] loves to "hike". So off we go a few weekends ago on what I would fondly call a "forest march". No matter, I got to hold her hand (even if I did keep looking over my shoulder the entire time) Anyways, we get to this damn mountain top like an hour later and the view is magnificent and I'm kicking my arse for forgetting my digital camera when she decides to look over the edge. I completely freaked out because: 1. She cannot walk through her living room without tripping on something. 2. I felt dizzy 20 feet away safely hanging onto a electric tower. Turns out there is a simple explanation for this! “As you age, your reaction time slows, you lose confidence in your body’s ability to handle physical demands, your sense of balance maybe is a little off,” said Harold Steinitz, a director of the Anxiety and Stress Disorders Institute of Maryland. “You become aware of that, and it affects you.” BUT, It seems after a while, you forget to be anxious.

Are you anxious, always in panic, nervous or worried? You may want to read this......

Do you believe you are one of these? Do you feel more? -tightness in the chest -fright of bridges -vague, underground of anxiety and worries -frightened by crowd If you feel any, some, or. I hope not, all of these, then this is surely the time to link up with a once fellow sufferer, who has found a natural way to get rid of these problems, and,in a permanent way, too. Yes, Joe Barry, a former sufferer of all too frequent panic attacks and General Anxiety Disorder, has developed a completely natural approach to eliminating 100% of general anxiety and panic attacks. Most of the people we deal with have been struggling with anxiety disorders for many years and have usually exhausted themselves looking for a solution in every book, course, or treatment program out there. By the time they get to Joe, they are very skeptical and have little faith in ever getting rid of their condition, but Joe has been able to lead them to a very easy, powerful solution without The Use of Medica

Nicotinic B2 Receptor's Role In Hyperactivity
Moliticon
by Moliticon  5-16-2009
(cont) It has been proposed that the alteration of behavioral adaptation in ß2−/− mice, coupled with unimpaired memory and anxiety, may model cognitive impairment observed in human disorders such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) , or even in autism . This proposition relies upon the idea that behavioral flexibility is controlled by an adequate hierarchization of motivations, a process known to mobilize prefrontal and cingulate cortex. ADHD symptoms such as inattention lack of inhibitory control, and hyperactivity and prefrontal involvement indeed resemble ß2−/− behavioral deficits, and fit well with nAChR localization and function. Yet, the possible contribution of prefrontal cortex and higher-level top-down processes in open-field behaviors is at this stage not clear.

Palin in Monty Python Audition
abailart
by abailart  10-26-2008
Yes, scientists work on fruit flies. Some of the most powerful tools in genetics and molecular biology are available in fruit flies, and these are animals that are particularly amenable to experimentation. Molecular genetics has revealed that humans share key molecules, the basic developmental toolkit, with all other animals, thanks to our shared evolutionary heritage (something else the wackaloon from Wasilla denies), and that we can use these other organisms to probe the fundamental mechanisms that underlie core processes in the formation of the nervous system — precisely the phenomena Palin claims are so important. This is where the Republican party has ended up: supporting an ignorant buffoon who believes in the End Times and speaking in tongues while deriding some of the best and most successful strategies for scientific research. In this next election, we've got to choose between the 21st century rationalism and Dark Age inanity. It ought to be an easy choice.

Skin cells from an 82-yr.-old ALS patient reprogrammed to form neurons
Mohir
by Mohir  8-3-2008
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a form of motor neuron disease characterized by loss of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. These cells are involved in movements, which are generated by the sequential activity of cells in three regions of the central nervous system: they are planned by the activity of neurons in the premotor cortex (whose activity is monitored by brain-computer interfaces), and executed when this activity is relayed to motor neurons in the ventral horn of the spinal cord, via the cells in the primary motor cortex.

Scientists have grafted a gene that causes florescence into mice, and make only their neurons glow. They are learning to trace neural messages along the pathways. This can be used to gain understanding of the physical aspects of the connections and the traces, that are characteristic of diseases like autism, mental retardation, and bipolar disorders

Mumie (Moomiyo): Cancer fighting drug of new millenium
delete101
by delete101  6-8-2007
Altay Mountain region where it is harvested, is home to over 6,500 different plants, over half of which are not found anywhere else in the world. It is this great variety of highly bio-active material, combined with the proper climate (temperature, light, moisture and the tremendous pressure created by the weight of the mountain) which contributes to the development of Mumie. Mumie is often harvested from the inside of mountain caves by collectors who then process the raw materials into a final extract. It is the digest of multitude of many flora at the crest of the mountains under very special conditions which produce the Mumie which then drops to the base of the caves where it can be collected. Because this special digest accumulates no more than twice a year, Mumie is a rare find. A kilo of extract may require the collection of many raw kilograms over a period of several months.
