POPSHarlem Gospel Choir Will Not Be Exploited On Beck's Xmas Show The Harlem Boys Choir maintains that they canceled for financial reasons. James Rucker, of Colorofchange.org said that he sent information on Beck that influenced HBC's decision and that the Choir had no idea that Beck is considered racist. No matter the reason, Beck's attempt to exploit a distinguished African-American group to shield his racism has been thwarted. What an Xmas scam. Perhaps the Mormon Choir will fill-in? They're much more appropriate for his scene. No mater, Leni Riefenstahl would still be proud of the effort.

POPSRacist Undertones Of The 'Socialist' Epithet
More From The Article: Take another black leader, another society fraught by racial division. In 1956, Nelson Mandela and 155 other antiapartheid activists were arrested by the South African government under the infamous Suppression of Communism Act of 1950, a law that was used gratuitously to incarcerate anyone who was critical of the government. The treason trial that followed resulted in a 1961 acquittal for all those involved, the government unable to prove any "socialist" intentions. But the political equation of black activists as "communists" would continue up through the 1980s. The Reagan administration egregiously soft-pedaled the issue of apartheid on the basis of the South African government's purported anticommunist stance. Indeed, the South African government itself viewed its policies not as racist, but as anticommunist. Only popular pressure through a global antiapartheid movement persuaded the US to isolate South Africa. It takes the cry of "socialism!" liter

POPSNobel Peace Prize Winners Comment: absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself. Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world. Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace. The pretext for the prize was Mr Obama’s decision to “strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”.

POPSRacism quotes “I hate racial discrimination most intensely and all its manifestations. I have fought all my life; I fight now, and will do so until the end of my days. Even although I now happen to be tried by one, whose opinion I hold in high esteem, I detest most violently the set-up that surrounds me here. It makes me feel that I am a Black man in a White man's court. This should not be I should feel perfectly at ease and at home with the assurance that I am being tried by a fellow South African, who does not regard me as an inferior, entitled to a special type of justice.” Nelson Mandela quotes (South African Statesman First democratically elected State President of South Africa (1994), “A group of white South Africans recently killed a black lawyer because he was black. That was wrong. They should have killed him because he was a lawyer.” A. Whitney Brown quotes “The Olympic Spirit is neither the property of one race nor of one age.” Pierre de Coubertin quotes (French Educato

POPSCarla Bruni Performs at Nelson Mandela Birthday Concert
" named after his prisoner number on Robben Island. Mr Mandela’s brother died of Aids. Although it was perhaps unprecedented for a First Lady of a great power to sing at a pop concert, France appears to have developed etiquette for the event. Bruni did not hug " much less kiss " Stewart, either before or after their set, and barely swayed as she performed her songs. Her husband, sitting half way back in the glorious golden clam-shell that is Radio City Music Hall, clapped but did not budge from his seat when others rose. As soon as she finished her performance, the couple left to catch a plane for France " drawing several previously unidentified secret service agents out of surrounding seats. Her early departure meant that she missed the grand finale, when all the artists danced rapturously together as Stevie Wonder sang Happy Birthday to Mr Mandela. Stewart, who has been writing unpublished songs to Bruni’s French lyrics in recent years . . .

POPSNelson Mandela Good: CNN Bad
I think it's good to overcome apartheid and racism. The way CNN haedlines and covers the story about a "Mandela Holiday," is so sicko, oppressive and destructive of hopeful, positive change that is most tempting to ignore it....like one would ignore stepping in a pile of dog "pooh." But we need to realize the oppressive, damping propaganda we are subject to, CNN on a world scale -- like CNN keeps talking about Iran wanting nuclear weapons when all Iran is doing, in according with UN guidelines, is developing nuclear power (Note: Israel has the illegal nuclear weapons). The idea of someone being old at age 91 is not news, yet this is how they cover "Mandela Day." Besides pushing for war with Iran CNN promotes the rest of the Zionist extremist agenda -- Palestinians and their issues are ignored or get negative, disparaging coverage. Like vultures, too, they're still feasting on the death of Michael Jackson...speculating about his murder.. murder!? Anything for rati

POPSTrue-life heros in comic books - Great! To Shimizu, who as a boy repeatedly encountered discrimination and “uncomfortable, unpleasant remarks” about his South Korean background, these were every bit as important as the more serious manga that taught him about politics, history, philosophy and romance. “In Japan, we receive information about everything through manga,” Shimizu says. “Manga is not just a genre, it’s a medium. So I knew the power of this storytelling vehicle.” Now he’s harnessing that power to tell the inspiring stories of true-life heroes like civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., former South African president Nelson Mandela and Myanmar’s pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi.

POPStutu talks international peace & reconciliation
The name Desmond Tutu resonates strongly with people all around the world. He is internationally respected as a "moral voice" to end poverty and human rights abuses. In 1996, he was appointed by President Nelson Mandela to chair the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, a body set-up to probe gross human rights violations during apartheid. Tutu spoke in London on Thursday to mark the 75th anniversary of the British Council. "I never imagined in my worst dreams that I would live to see the day when the United States would abrogate the rule of law and habeas corpus as has happened in the case of those described as "enemy combatants" incarcerated in Guantanamo Bay. Or that I would hear an American government and its apologists use exactly the same justification for detention without trial, as had been used by the apartheid government of South Africa - a practice that the United States at the time condemned roundly, as was so utterly right to have done."

POPSChinua Achebe: A hero returns
"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned. The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity...". The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats. "And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?" Achebe was once described by Nelson Mandela as "the writer in whose presence prison walls fell down". "Oral storytelling was important when I was writing," says Achebe, "it may not be important when the next generation is writing," "Obviously I believe in the importance of stories, but whether oral, or written, or televised, I cannot lay down the law. Achebe snubbed Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, earlier this week by refusing to accept a national honour. (2004) He said there was a dangerous state of affairs in his home country, with not enough being done in terms of develo

POPS SA Nation Address (irony) The South African nation is fine. There is no crisis. "Grannie, stand up and do something. Don't just sit there moaning and complaining and making white noise like so many others. If there is something about our politics that you don't like, stand up, do something!" "And so I thought: Yes. I may be an Afrikaans Tannie. I might have supported apartheid for all those years only because I didn't know it was so horrible. Because no one told us. I knew nothing. I will get involved. I will make sure democracy stays in full working condition in spite of the struggle-tsotsis and political pirates who want to rape our Constitution and then have a shower of celebration after the treasonous act!"
