POPSYoungest Exploded Star In The Milky Way Is Discovered
It turns out, Green and his team came across the remnants, now called G1.9+0.3, more than 20 years ago using the Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope in Socorro, NM, and estimated the object’s age to be 400-1,000 years old. It is near the center of the Milky Way, some 25,000 light-years from Earth. By comparing notes, the astronomers learned the images taken more than two decades apart documented the expansion of debris from the star's explosion. The images taken in 2007 were about 16 percent larger than the ones taken in 1985. "This is a huge difference," said Reynolds. "It means the explosion debris is expanding very quickly, which in turn means the object is much younger than we originally thought." Reynolds also observed the object with the VLA radio telescope to confirm the supernova remnant's rapid expansion. Unlike visible-light telescopes, radio and X-ray telescopes can penetrate the thick clouds of gas and dust in our galaxy.

POPSSomething "Definitely Unidentified" Crashes In Canada Ha!! This reminds me of War of the Worlds, but I do have a very vivid imagination. *LOL* Is it just me, or does there seem to be a rise in UFO reports as of late? I've read rumours on the net that governments around the world may be getting reading for some grand "disclosure" of some kind and it's claimed esp Mexico are pushing for it. Britain has just released their X-files too and was it France? Russia is opening up too. Anyway... I think it's all pretty funky. My clip prior to this one reports something shiny has been seen crashing in Kazakhstan too and {{kkcapricorn}} has a clip about groups of strange lights being reported over Britain and the US over New Year's. Any connection, I wonder? Where's Mulder when you need him?? :)

POPSChance of Asteroid Hit on Mars Increases "Some researchers are hoping for a cosmic smash" Some? This is the kind of thing astronomers dream of At the moment its known as 2007 WD5. I'm sure if it hits it will get a better name.

POPSAsteroid may hit Mars January 2008 It's like Mars is a crash test dummy. June 30 is the Centenary of the Tunguska Impact on Earth. It has been called a meteor strike, but the jury is still out on exactly what it was. It was a weird meteor.They only discovered this asteroid in November It'd due on Jan 30 but I don't know where it will be night if it hits.The odds are 75:1, but they are short odds in astronomical terms. At least we wont be in suspense for too long. I was wondering how big a telescope would have to be before it can be seen, but it will probably be easier to see on youtube
