POPSFirst Nations Meet with President Obama - 400 tribes The last such meeting - of this size - took place more than one hundred years ago. Let's hope much progress is made and that more than 200 years of shameful exploitation by Washington of the tribal nations takes a positive path now.

POPSWill We See Another Land Rush to Steal Indian Land for Solar Gold? Custer's Last Stand came after some gold fever, Oklahoma was supposed to be the "refuge" of Native Americans kicked out of homelands in North Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan and Wisconsin, as well as Ohio - until "we" decided we wanted it to. Who will the Sooners be this time? A suddenly "green" BP or Shell?

POPSBlack Bear Quintuplets When something as magical as this happens between man and animal, Native Americans say, 'We have walked together in the shadow of a rainbow.' And so it is with humility and great pleasure that I share these photos with you.

POPSTop Ten Reasons to Give Back the Peace Prize Reason Number Three: The US Continues to Ignore Israeli nukes, while it acts as banker, diplomatic cover, and armorer its brutal Israel's sixty year occupation of Palestine. Reason Number Two: The US is Funnelling Billions Into Expanding Its Military Presence Across the African Continent. Reason Number One: It just ain't right.

POPSRape and Black Roots What this means is that, in defiance of the law and social convention, an enormous amount of “race-mixing” has long been occurring in the United States, about which we, as a society, have for just as long been in deep denial. I have never given an admixture DNA test of a black person who turned out to be 100 percent African, no matter how dark or “African” they appear to be. Some of this inter-racial sexuality was voluntary, we now know, but far more was coerced, a reflection or a result of a profound imbalance of power. Because of a confluence of factors — the illegality of miscegenation, the prevalence of sexual abuse and rape as the source of these relationships, infidelity, guilt, shame, and disgrace — both black people and white people had a certain interest in keeping these relationships in the dark, as it were.

POPSNative Americans, 1831-1890 At an early age, however, the boy distinguished himself as a leader. On his first hunt at the age of 10, Jumping Badger killed his first buffalo. He gave the meat away to elders who were unable to hunt for themselves. Following the hunt, Jumping Badger set out on his first vision quest. When the lad was just 14, his father gave him a coup stick, a slender wand with which he could gain prestige by touching or striking an enemy in battle. He joined his first war party against the Crow, anxious for a chance to prove himself at that tender age. Rest of article at source...good read

POPSWhy we SHOULD give illegal immigrants health care coverage What's more important? Posturing over "no coverage for illegals!!!" or actually saving money and improving health care for all? More: What's more, employers currently have a clear economic incentive to hire undocumented immigrants: they don't require coverage. A plan that mandates insurance for native workers but not their illegal counterparts actually makes life harder on the blue-collar Americans competing for jobs (and railing against immigrants) because it means that hiring them will cost more than hiring a recent transplant from Mexico City…. But despite the potential economic upside, the right shouldn't stress: America won't insure its illegal immigrants any time soon. "The hard thing here is that the current state of perception on immigration is eroding our sense of social solidarity… People simply don't want money going to people on the other side of the tracks."

POPSImporting Poverty: The Cheap Labor Trap The great success story of the United States is that it raised the working class into the middle class, the real path to higher standards of living for the population as a whole. But there are those in the business community who seem to think the American achievement has been overdone. In their view, we need more poverty, not less. Open borders and a new “guest workers” program to legalize millions of illegal aliens is what groups like the Chamber of Commerce desire, in effect creating a proletariat.

POPSWhite Supremacist Wiginton Turned Back at Heathrow On Way to British Hatefest Wiginton also brags about friendships with the leaders of violent neo-Nazi skinhead gangs in Russia, and claims that he pumps $50,000 a year of his own money into the global white supremacist movement. In the U.S. in recent years, Wiginton has appeared at racist skinhead gatherings and co-sponsored lectures with hate groups such as the Council of Conservative Citizens and the Michigan State University chapter of Young Americans for Freedom. The Home Office’s barring of Wiginton is the latest indication that U.K. officials are cracking down on right-wing extremists from other countries, including the U.S. Earlier this year, the names of five U.S. citizens appeared on a list of 16 individuals banned from entering the U.K. for reasons of “fostering extremism or hatred.” (Wiginton was not among them, but right-wing radio host Michael Savage was.) Interesting...the Russian connection

POPSObama Presents 16 Medal of Freedoms (like UK Honor's List)
Once again the difference between this new Obama Administration and the nightmare of the last 8 Bush years couldn't be more clear. Bush gave Medals of Freedom to lying CIA directors, racist UN appointees, and such others. Obama's presentation today was (once again) truly inspiration, given to real people who did real actions in the real world to make life better for others and us all. The Americans were men, woman, gay, straight, healty, disabled, Black, White, Hispanic and Native American Indian. Also was the former President of Ireland and former UN Human Rights Commissioner, Mary Robinson, noted anti-apartheid activist ArchbishopTutu, and a micro-economist from India (who set up a pretty cool idea to get credit to the poor to start businesses) (I think Crow warrior, WWII vet, Doctor Joe Medicine Crow-High Bird said something like: Thank you Great Black-White Father). The the real war and political war goes on strong. It's people like this vs. the hate-filed minds

POPSTribes Should Run Fort Humboldt It's time to end using a death camp as a logging exhibit. Fort Humboldt's only relation to logging was use of the soldiers who "protected" peaceful Native Americans from the violent white "settlers" who stole their land that had vast tracks of ancient redwoods on them.

POPSSacrificial virgins of the Mississippi
As archaeologist Timothy Pauketat's cautious but mesmerizing new book, "Cahokia: Ancient America's Great City on the Mississippi," makes clear, Cahokia -- the greatest Native American city north of Mexico -- definitely belongs to human history. (It is not "historical," in the strict sense, because the Cahokians left no written records.) At its peak in the 12th century, this settlement along the Mississippi River bottomland of western Illinois, a few miles east of modern-day St. Louis, was probably larger than London, and held economic, cultural and religious sway over a vast swath of the American heartland. Featuring a man-made central plaza covering 50 acres and the third-largest pyramid in the New World (the 100-foot-tall "Monks Mound"), Cahokia was home to at least 20,000 people. If that doesn't sound impressive from a 21st-century perspective, consider that the next city on United States territory to attain that size would be Philadelphia, some 600 years later.

POPSRacial Healing Kellogg Grant RFP If you are running a community-based program trying to resolve problems between or within racial communities, this $400,000 grant might be for you - especially if you are working with children. Might be great to work on not passing on existing tensions between African-American and Hispanic communities, or First Nation/Native Americans and Euro-Americans.

POPSCanyons & Indians - 10-Days USA Adventure Monument Valley Tribal Park will be familiar from numerous westerns but the impact of seeing them in real life is quite extraordinary - particularly at sunset when the rock glows with all manner of brilliant red hues. POPS15% of teens expect to die before age 35, and these expectations correlate with high-risk behavior I suppose this isn't surprising, but it's the first real, large-scale empirical confirmation that pessimism in teenagers is connected with dangerous behaviors (on the one hand) and with disadvantaging circumstances such as poverty or single-parent family situations (on the other hand). In other words, kids in bad situations are more likely both to believe they will die young and to act in ways that make it more likely that they will.

POPSAmericans Testimonials Backing Canada's Health Care System Nationalized health care system of Canada is not even being considered here in the U.S. Why? Because congress and insurance companies are too deeply embedded in each others pockets. Listen to the arguments from doctors, big Pharma and private insurance. They care more about their financial interests than getting people to participate in the health care system, many for the first times in their lives. What we need is a hybrid system. Every American should at least have access to annual check ups (this can be subsidized by government based on your ability to pay). After that, we should be able to participate in which ever plan is available whether it is government run or private. This would create competition and hopefully help keep cost of private insurance down. I may be naïve in thinking this could work but we should not be forced to participate if we don’t want to.

POPSHarley Davidson Dealer Forced To Remove Message—America Is Not A Muslim Country
Shop owner Erik Dunk says Harley Davidson got involved after a motorist complaint and told him they wanted him to remove it. "I have put things that I felt were incorrect that President Bush did with no problem. I've had a number of things up I felt President Obama did that were beyond the scope of our constitution that were improper that got no response. As soon as I put the ‘M’ (muslim) word up, that's when things started to really boil," Dunk said. Dunk says reaction he got to News 10 Now's story Wednesday actually showed him just how much support he has across the nation. "I've gotten calls from California, from Madison, Wisconsin, down in Hamilton and downstate down by Long Island. We've been getting calls and each and every one of them are, 'Thank you for what you're doing.' 'We support you 100 percent.' 'What can we do?'" said Dunk. http://news10now.com/content/top_stories/474500/anti-president-obama-message-removed-from-business/
