POPSIf You Think Things Have Been Rough, Hang On ’ You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet ' Just consider. The price of gas will soon likely increase. The cost of servicing our profligate borrowing will, too. One more terrorist attack like at Fort Hood, or nightly sermons from a grandstanding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, or a new Taliban offensive, and the momentum could shift to radical Islam in its decades-long war against the United States. Next year’s tax hikes will be real and large " and no longer just this year’ s idle talk. As these storm clouds gather, Congress bickers on Saturday nights about borrowing even more money for health-care reform, yet another federal entitlement. If you think things have been rough so far, hang on, ’ cause you ain’t seen nothing yet. POPSThe Last Rung usually settled by exchanging a customer's ladder for a new one, according to Robert G. Howland, whose great-great-grandfather John Tilley founded the company. And Howland says the company never lost any of the few cases that went to trial over the years . "We could see the handwriting on the wall and just want to end this whole thing," says Howland. Tilley was bearing the burden for the national jump in jury awards in all product-liability cases--from an average of $1.7 million in 1994 to $6 million in 2002. "Unfortunately, even insureds with perfect loss records are impacted," says Craig D. Simon, managing director of insurance brokerage firm Willis Group Holdings. "This affects virtually every manufacturer of consumer goods." Or as Sean McBride of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for Legal Reform puts it: "The problem for small, family-owned businesses like Tilley Ladders is that if the death tax does not get you, the unscrupulous trial lawyers will."

POPSBudget, tax ideas put to Obama team Im sure Reuters' Journalists have no partisan affiliation what-so-ever..right. Yet, I find it interesting how they frame..err report the variety of opinion's and ideas at this "meeting". "experts" - said a VAT tax is needed given that the traditional tax system is not providing yet; "Some participants" called for a reduction in the corporate tax rate and to defer any increases to income tax rates

POPSGreedy Politicians Intrigued by Value-Added Tax to Finance European-Style Welfare State in America
The U.S. had a small advantage: The tax burden, including state and local governments, was about 27 percent of GDP. But then European governments started adopting the VAT. Denmark was the first to do so in 1967. France and Germany followed, with many other European nations imposing the tax within 5 years. For politicians, the VAT was great news. Besides being a new source of revenue, the VAT has been a disturbingly easy tax to increase since it’s built into the price of products and hidden from consumers . Moreover, even small increases generate a big pile of revenue because the tax base is so broad. The tax has become so easy to raise that VAT rates in Europe average more than 20 percent. For taxpayers, however, the news has been disastrous. Thanks to this levy, the burden of government in Europe today is much higher than it is in the U.S. On average, taxes consume about 41 percent of Europe’s economic output.

POPS(Yet) Another New Tax From Which The Bottom 95% Should Probably Divert Their Eyes While it'd be a whopper, a national sales tax seems unlikely (despite the pesky mathematical consequences of the government spending gazillions of dollars it doesn't have). Republicans hate it because it's an enormous new tax. And Democrats don't love it as lasciviously as they do other taxes because it's less "progressive" (i.e. it doesn't disproportionately soak the higher income brackets as elegantly as, say, a steeply graduated income tax or a supplemental hundred-thousandaires' tax). Happily, there's a much simpler way to pay for Obama's newest trillion-dollar adventure: scrub it. POPSCalifornication Only in Washington could the solution to an economic crisis brought on by loose monetary policy and excessive government spending be to further loosen monetary policy and expand government spending even more.

POPSIs This Why The Sales Of FairTax Book Has Spiked? There is absolutely no doubt that enactment of the FairTax would be the greatest boost to the American economy in our lifetimes. As I've said, the problem here is that (1) The FairTax act was introduced by a Republican; and, (2) it would constitute the most massive transfer of power from the government back to the people in the history of our Republic. The thinking in Washington is that our economic problems can only be solved through the enhancement of government power.

POPSCigarette Tax Burnout In New York City and State, tobacco taxes have been raised so many times that the retail cost can exceed $9 a pack -- about double the national average. Few budget-savvy smokers in the Big Apple pay that tax. Patrick Fleenor, an expert on tobacco taxes at the Tax Foundation, estimates that there is "now a 75% gap between cigarette sales in the city and cigarette consumption." In other words, three out of four cigarettes are bought elsewhere or are contraband. In New Jersey, about 40% of the Marlboros and Virginia Slims that are lit up escape the $2.57-a-pack tax. In Washington State, evasion was so rampant that the legislature decided in 2005 to lower the 75% tax on cigars and other tobacco products as a way to raise revenue and help state retailers.

POPSWesley Snipes vs. Income Tax and IRS Wins Big This will draw more attention to legit Income Tax resistance. See also Aaron Russo's film (online at Google Video and YouTube) "America: Freedom to Fascism" for more on this subject. It is legally impossible to prove criminal intent upon those who sincerely believe that the Income Tax is illegal, unconstitutionally, and fraudulently extracted from the American public. Ron Paul is the only candidate who would fix this by eliminating it (if Congress approved), and the so-called "Fair Tax" proposal's purpose is to abolish the IRS while INCREASING AND CEMENTING mandatory national sales tax on everyone. (Do not fall for that fraudulent scheme either). The Income Tax was setup originally as a "temporary" war tax to fund WWI, and that is its primary purpose since. The Income Tax is also one of the 10 planks of Communism. The government existed without an Income Tax up until 1913 with no problem, or property taxes for that matter.

POPSTax rebate an indirect subsidy to casinos The interesting thing is that a representative of the casino industry admits that this temporary influx isn't the best outcome for them. They would prefer for the economy to be better so that people feel like they can safely gamble their money regularly.

POPSIndependeny Media Power vs. The Corporate Coup We now live in a country run by corporations. Its about time we take it back. Here is group bring minds together, give speeches and preach to the choir but to get together and and talk strategies. Its time Corporations end having the power to send lobbyists with pockets of cash to buy our rights from our Government. Its time we end allowing Countries to outsource jobs and reward them for it. Its time our government tells us to go out shopping to fix the economy. Its time we stop be gentle consumers and take back America before its too late.

POPSThe Fair Tax Plan via Steve27smith An excellent plan, I think!!! Read lots of info at the source. Please comment, because I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to economics and taxation, and have no real idea of how something like this would work. I welcome input.
