A Little Something To Write The DOJ About
mcsmithblack
by mcsmithblack  1-6-2010
Concerned about bringing Blackwater to justice and pehaps, open up a few cans-o-worms for public scrutiny and entertainment while setting a legal precedent for both corporate and government adherence to rule of law? Write the DOJ and let them know you're watching. More from the article below: "Judge Ricardo Urbina of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia dismissed charges against the guards on Dec. 31, saying prosecutors had misused protected statements the guards gave during an internal review of the September 2007 shooting in Iraq. Urbina’s decision followed more than three weeks of closed-door court hearings. National Security Division trial attorneys Joseph Kaster and Michael Dittoe said in the Jan. 5 filing that the Justice Department is not opposed to releasing redacted versions of post-hearing memos. “Such a procedure would properly balance the First Amendment concerns with the rights of the parties and victims to a fair trial,” they said in court papers."

DHS Sec. Napolitano Should Step Down

For a while Republicans have called for DHS Sec. Napolitano to step down, but now so are many Democrats. He said Napolitano, an attorney and former Arizona governor, does not have the experience for the post she is in. "We should have someone who doesn't need to go in there and learn about terrorism, learn about security," Codey told Fox News. " Ok, well, if Codey really means that, shouldn't OBAMA be on his way as well???

"Everything will depend on implementation," said Steven Aftergood, director of the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists. But the order "has tremendous potential to reduce the level of secrecy throughout the government." In a memo to agency heads, Obama said he expects that the order will produce "measurable progress" toward greater openness in government while also protecting the nation's most important secrets.

Former U.S. attorney Alan Bersin is nominated to run CBP, and former FBI agent and police detective Erroll Southers is the president's pick for TSA. On Christmas Day, alleged terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian who spent time in Yemen, was able to sneak an explosive device aboard his flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, only to be thwarted by the device's apparent failure to work as designed, and aggressive action by other passengers. Abdulmutallab was not on the government's terrorist watch list " though he was on a less sensitive and broader database. He was able to maintain a valid U.S. visa despite warnings about him to U.S. embassy officials in Nigeria from his father. Those facts are prompting a broad review of the government's terrorist detection efforts. "The United States will more than simply strengthen our defenses," Obama said Monday. "We will continue to use every element of our national power to disrupt, to dismantle and defeat the violent extremists

"They're still puzzled why is it that people are mad at the banks. Well, let's see," he said. "You guys are drawing down $10, $20 million bonuses after America went through the worst economic year that it's gone through in -- in decades, and you guys caused the problem. And we've got 10% unemployment." Relations between the banking industry and the White House were frosty from the start and have deteriorated in recent weeks, with large banks lobbying against portions of legislation that would toughen financial-market regulations and administration officials angered by some banks' continued payment of high bonuses and their reluctance to lend. Mr. Obama is scheduled on Monday morning to meet with bankers to exchange ideas on ways to increase lending; to review the financial-industry regulatory bill moving through Congress; and to discuss bankers' compensation, the White House and industry representatives said.

Once More From The Top, Barack! by Mark Steyn

“There are those who say there is no evil in the world. There are others who argue that pink fluffy bunnies are the spawn of Satan and conspiring to overthrow civilization. Let me be clear: I believe people of goodwill on all sides can find common ground between the absurdly implausible caricatures I attribute to them on a daily basis. We must begin by finding the courage to acknowledge the hard truth that I am living testimony to the power of nuance to triumph over hard truth and come to the end of the sentence on a note of sonorous, polysyllabic, if somewhat hollow, uplift. Pause for applause.” It didn’t come but once at Oslo last week, where Obama got a bad press for blowing off the King of Norway’s luncheon. In Obama’s honor. Can you believe this line made it into the speech? “I do not bring with me today a definitive solution to the problems of war.” Well, there’s a surprise. When you consider all the White House eyeballs that approve a presidential speech,

And this choice constitutes the largest foreign policy risk to his presidency in the months and years ahead.

to bring their domestic climate observation systems up to speed. That could bring the high estimate of the additional cost of the five year effort to more than $60 billion. The report emphasizes that all cost estimates are "provisional." The cost analysis section of the report " which appears in the executive summary, but not in the main report itself " is discreetly silent about who will hand over all the money, especially the part to be spent in the developing world, but by implication, the money is intended to come from developed countries. The vast surveillance network will also have other uses than purely scientific ones. Its ability to measure changes in land use and their effects will tie into elements of a global climate deal that envisage trading cash for efforts to prevent deforestation in poorer countries " which, in turn, may tie into a lucrative international system of trading "carbon offsets" in a cap-and-trade system. It will also aid in assessing disaster rel

If You Think Things Have Been Rough, Hang On ’ You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet '

Just consider. The price of gas will soon likely increase. The cost of servicing our profligate borrowing will, too. One more terrorist attack like at Fort Hood, or nightly sermons from a grandstanding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, or a new Taliban offensive, and the momentum could shift to radical Islam in its decades-long war against the United States. Next year’s tax hikes will be real and large " and no longer just this year’ s idle talk. As these storm clouds gather, Congress bickers on Saturday nights about borrowing even more money for health-care reform, yet another federal entitlement. If you think things have been rough so far, hang on, ’ cause you ain’t seen nothing yet. ClimateGate "Scientist" (Laughingstock Fired) "Steps Down"
merrie
by merrie  12-1-2009
Climate Depot points us to a news report that Dr. Phil Jones, head laughingstock at the East Anglia Climate Research Unit, has "stepped down." In other words, he was asked to leave, not letting the door hit him on the bum on the way out. That's why Jones and the CRU deleted their data files; evaded FOIA requests; and conspired to shut dissenting views out of peer-reviewed journals. Jones isn't a scientist -- he's a hack. It would appear that between 2000 and 2006 Jones was the recipient (or co-recipient) of nearly $20 million worth of grants. But, remember, he was deleting all that data for the children. http://bit.ly/4wh0fW Linked by: Michelle Malkin. Thanks!

Beginning at a meeting in New York in late September, Christian leaders came together across the historic lines of ecclesial difference — Catholics, Protestants, and Eastern Orthodox Christians — to bear witness to three foundational principles of justice and the common good: (1) the sanctity of human life in all stages and conditions; (2) the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife; and (3) religious liberty and freedom of conscience.

ClimateGate: Follow The Money
merrie
by merrie  12-1-2009    1
-- facts that were laid bare by last week's disclosure of thousands of emails from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, or CRU. But the deeper question is why the scientists behaved this way to begin with, especially since the science behind man-made global warming is said to be firmly settled. To answer the question, it helps to turn the alarmists' follow-the-money methods right back at them. Consider the case of Phil Jones, the director of the CRU and the man at the heart of climategate. According to one of the documents hacked from his center, between 2000 and 2006 Mr. Jones was the recipient (or co-recipient) of some $19 million worth of research grants, a sixfold increase over what he'd been awarded in the 1990s. Why did the money pour in so quickly? Because the climate alarm kept ringing so loudly: The louder the alarm, the greater the sums.

Global Warming Exposed as 'Globaloney' via Big Hack Attack

.... (presented out of order because of frequent updates at that post): Hackers have broken into the data base of the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit - one of the world’s leading alarmist centres - and put the files they stole on the Internet, on the grounds that the science is too important to be kept under wraps. he files suggest, on a very preliminary glance, some other very dubious practices, too, and a lot of collusion - sometimes called “peer review”. Or even conspiracy.
