POPSUNEP Document: Environmentalism, A False Religion The positions argued in that paper now appear to be much closer at hand; many of them are embedded in a four-year strategy document for UNEP taking effect next year, in the immediate wake of the much-touted, 11-day Copenhagen conference on "climate change," which starts on Dec. 7, and which is intended to push environmental concerns to a new crescendo. The major difference is that the four-year UNEP plan expresses its aims in the carefully soporific language that U.N. organizations customarily use to swaddle their objectives. The Swiss document makes its case passionately " and more plainly " than any U.N. official document ever would. Or, more discreetly, as the strategy document puts it: "Integrated environmental assessments that highlight the state of the environment and trends will be used to inform decision-makers and ensure UNEP plays its lead environmental role in the United Nations system and strengthens its capacity to

Even more: They conveniently lost the original data on which their house-of-cards computer modeling built the narrative of long-term global warming. On that dubious narrative was built the political momentum for history’s greatest transfer of wealth from developed to undeveloped nations. Even more: They squared and cubed their own corruption, these beneficiaries of tax-supported research money, by closing off legitimate and necessary skepticism, even fantasizing about committing violence against leading skeptics. Their purposes were political: to shape data to suit the agenda of international regulators, many of whom will meet next week in Copenhagen to propose draconian emission controls. That, by any old-school journalist’s reckoning, would constitute a scandal of global proportions, and you’d expect the terriers of the press to bare their teeth.

NO ONE, can get out of the traps they set, while they siphon off any earnings said suckers have given their blood, sweat and tears to acquire. But if Mr. Geithner now says the AIG bailout wasn't driven by a need to rescue CDS counterparties, then what was the point? Why pay Goldman and even foreign banks like Societe Generale billions of tax dollars to make them whole? Regulators say that having taxpayers buy out the counterparties improved AIG's liquidity position, but why was it important to keep AIG liquid if not to protect some class of creditors? Yesterday, Mr. Geithner introduced a new explanation, which is that AIG might not have been able to pay claims to its insurance policy holders: "AIG was providing a range of insurance products to households across the country. Yet, if there is one thing that all observers seemed to agree on last year, it was that AIG's money to pay policyholders was segregated and safe inside the regulated insurance subsidiaries. If the real systemic danger was the condition of these highly regulated subsidiaries"where there was no CDS trading"then the Beltway narrative implodes.

POPSLeading Global Warming Proponent Admits Earth is Cooling Professor Mojib Latif, from the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences at Kiel University in Germany, has been looking at the influence of cyclical changes to ocean currents and temperatures in the Atlantic, a feature known as the North Atlantic Oscillation. When he factored these natural fluctuations into his global climate model, professor Latif found the results would bring the remorseless rise in average global temperatures to an abrupt halt. "The strong warming effect that we experienced during the last decades will be interrupted. Temperatures will be more or less steady for some years, and thereafter will pickup again and continue to warm". With apologies to Al Gore, professor Latif's finding is something of an "inconvenient truth" for the global warming debate. Latif is one of the leading climate modellers in the world. He is the recipient of several international climate-study prizes and a lead author for the

POPSIt's Never Easy {{iamonetoo}} told me once that she didn't understand why it had to be so hard to be herself. She could have taken the easy way. But she didn't and I admire her. Social change is hard, long and difficult work. It will often spawn hatred by other's who are just ignorant of human differences. That's ok; the struggle of civil rights for everyone is always worth it :)
