POPSOne big ocean. Thousands of tiny ponds. The death of one-size advertising It's a common thread. Segmentation. Usually not measured up as a positive (because it makes things more difficult, supposedly) segmentation is the bi-product of media saturation. Where not livining in a one color television, one network, one newspaper kind of world any more. There are so many outlets that people have their eyes on these days, you have to find the brights spots, the best rabbit holes. And the easiest way to do that is by behavior. That market may have gotten fragmented but you can easily find out a persons behavior just by gleaning a few tweets. Where they live, what they eat, where they shop, who they like, who they don't like. Think of it this way. As marketers, we're no longer like Sisyphus pushing ONE huge rock up a hill, we're juggling a dozen or more pebbles riding a unicycle across a tight wire.

The university is championing ways to apply new wireless technology that will aid the deaf and hard-of-hearing community in a live concert setting, and augment their capacity to "feel" the music. Forbes has his eyes on the hearing-centric music festivals. "I would love to see myself and other deaf artists going out performing on stage. Like at Lollapalooza. I think people would think it's cool to see deaf artists signing."

POPSCharging by the Byte to Curb Internet Traffic Think about it--the telecoms have us by the short hairs. They also have immunity (or soon will) from prosecution for helping the Gov't spy on us if they want. We need to speak out about this, wherever possible.

POPSFCC Questions Comcast About Interference With File-Sharing Traffic
And Vuze Inc., a company that distributes video using BitTorrent file-sharing technology, later filed a separate complaint, asking the FCC to clarify how much power Internet service providers have in controlling traffic on their lines. In an investigation last year, The Associated Press found that Comcast in some cases hindered file sharing by subscribers who used BitTorrent. The findings, first reported Oct. 19, confirmed claims by users who also noticed interference with other file-sharing applications. Do you block access to peer-to-peer applications like BitTorrent? No. We do not block access to any Web site or applications, including BitTorrent. Our customers use the Internet for downloading and uploading files, watching movies and videos, streaming music, sharing digital photos, accessing numerous peer-to-peer sites, VOIP applications like Vonage, and thousands of other applications online. Comcast service maintenance scheduled for Jan 15 and 16 12am to 7am ET

POPSNo, YouTube Is Not Going To Kill The Internet Andrew Odlyzko, a professor at the University of Minnesota, reality checks a telecom industry funded study that predicts that a lack of bandwidth will bring the Internet down in the year 2010. Odlyzko is the ex AT&T Labs researcher who, in 1998, became one of the first to point out that demand for bandwidth was growing at a much slower pace than many were touting, foreshadowing the bursting of the bandwidth bubble. His conclusion: there's no cause for panic.. Kudos to the NYT's Steve Lohr for finding the perfect source to offer some perspective on the rather alarmist headlines generated by the study earlier this month.
