For Dudamel, it's all about the music
Socratoad
by Socratoad  10-27-2009    1
In an interview with CBC News on Monday, Dudamel said he entered the free musical education system at age four. The system aims to expose every child, regardless of ability or socio-economic background, to music by giving them early and free access to instruments and music education. "The most important thing inside the system is the music changed totally my life," he said. "We are building better citizens with music. This is the real reason for the system. Music, yes, but to see your life in a different way. I really feel that I am totally a product of the system in Venezuela."

South American Pyramids were musical instruments?
cakebelly
by cakebelly  9-24-2009    2
more: To investigate further, Jorge Cruz of the Professional School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Mexico City and Nico Declercq of the Georgia Institute of Technology compared the frequency of sounds made by people walking up El Castillo with those made at the solid, uneven-stepped Moon Pyramid at Teotihuacan in central Mexico. At each pyramid, they measured the sounds they heard near the base of the pyramid when a student was climbing higher up. Remarkably similar raindrop noises, of similar frequency, were recorded at both pyramids, suggesting that rather than being caused by El Castillo being hollow, the noise is probably caused by sound waves travelling through the steps hitting a corrugated surface, and being diffracted, causing the particular raindrop sound waves to propagate down along the stairs (Acta Acustica united with Acustica, DOI: 10.3813/AAA.918216).

Nero Fiddled While Rome Burned
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  8-30-2009    1
Finally, it is impossible to prove that Nero played a musical instrument during the burning of Rome. If he did, which is probable, it was the cithara. In that case, using the word fiddle in its broad application to the playing of any stringed instrument, it might be said that "Nero fiddled while Rome burned." But, in view of Tacitus' uncertainty concerning the story, the entire incident can be rejected as doubtful. Nevertheless, the expression "Nero fiddled while Rome burned" has such tremendous imaginative appeal, and is so deeply entrenched in popular thought, that it is unlikely that any amount of refutation will cause it to be discarded.

Cybraphon - An emotional autonomous band!
djkraz
by djkraz  7-29-2009
First I have to say that I really love the sound of mechanical bands such as this so that does way on my feelings about it. That said, it's not the best sounding I've heard but it has to be the best implementation I've seen yet. I love the fact that it's mood is affected by things such as it's friend count on myspace and the number of results on google about it. In fact, me posting this will put it in a better mood and therefore it will play more upbeat music! Sounds like a lot of people I know who's moods are way to affected by there online "status".

merrie
by merrie  7-16-2009    3
And after the menudo is finished, we will go out into the hot evening air of the Supreme Court plaza for drinks. Sangria and Irish whiskey, 2% milk and Colt 45 Malt Liquor. The night breeze is intoxicating, no? Now it is time for the music of justice! The instruments will be taken out, like the Buena Vista Social Club. Carribean drums and mazurkas, the blues guitarra and the bagpipes, creating the caliente salsa beat of la ley! Bailando en la calle, everybody! What's that Justicio Juan Roberto? You are too white and do not have the ritmo to do the dance? Let wise Latina Justicia Sonia show you the steps! Meringue, samba, macarena! Andele! Yes, yes! Lose yourself in the rhythm, Perito Breyer! Together we make the beautiful Constitutional musica together!

'Lost' music instrument recreated
ofcapri

video at source. The result was a 2.4m (8ft) -long thin straight horn, with a flared bell at the end. Hard to play It is an unwieldy instrument with a limited tonal range that is hard to play. But played well, it gives Johann Sebastian Bach's motet a haunting feel that couldn't be reproduced by modern instruments.

Beginner guitar lessons in brief

A brief knowledge on the history on guitars will help you in learning guitar lessons by creating a kind of enthusiasm in you. People began experimenting with electrically powered instruments like music boxes and player pianos in the 1800s, but the first attempts at an amplified instrument did not come until the 1920s.
