2010-The Year of the AWAKENING
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  12-27-2009
I’ve always been a fan of Mr. Rogers. His trip around the world on a Motorcycle is an experience in itself. What an adventure that must have been. As for Bernanke and Greenspan, Jim is so correct. Bernanke is just one of many from Goldman Sachs that now is part of the Obama the Joker administration. Bernanke is just helping out his fat cat friends the same that Obama claims to be opposed to. What a charade. I love Jim Rogers sense of humour , I usually follow all his interviews from this blog http://www.JimRogers.tk

Cronyism in My Hometown
Rustee
by Rustee  5-20-2009    3
A must read letter by the president of a local Dodge dealer. In the past year, we have embarked on several creative initiatives in order to remain profitable and out of bankruptcy court. Though Dodge district sales are down by about 50%, our new vehicle sales actually increased comparing April 2008 and April 2009. Though I am a Washington, DC-educated attorney and former employee of the US Department of Labor and the US Senate and an active advocate of the American way of life, it is difficult for me to view this abrogation of our franchise rights as anything more than a manipulation of US bankruptcy court and law so that Chrysler LLC can transfer wealth between dealers they like and those they dislike, those that have agreed to under-table favors and those that haven't, and to settle old vendettas. This is not the purpose of US bankruptcy protection and, surely, it isn't why the US Treasury has given billions to Chrysler to keep them in business.

These people are disgusting! Meanwhile "progressive" writers spend their days courting the minions of the self-acclaimed evolved and exalted new-intellectuals who strut & puff themselves above a straggling remainder of "neanderthal types" and snicker over their "confusion", "aimlessness", and "desperate party-of-No" resistance. These presumed "finely-tuned forward thinkers" don't even see the crap that lays before them, the hypocrisy of the gang that has enabled them, and are ~ AS ALWAYS ~ deaf, dumb, and blind to the Spirit and nature of what it was that founded America and is solely responsible for, if not their very presence here, at least their right and ability to be in the situation they are in, think and write what they do, not to mention the ability to be so destructive while being completely free to continue that course!

Without Fred Rogers, PBS might not exist today
Lexica
by Lexica  2-12-2009    3
More: Fred spoke for about six minutes total, taking the time to recite lyrics from one of his songs. Fred Rogers: Know that there's something deep inside, that helps us become what we can. For a girl can be someday a lady, and a boy can be someday a man. Senator Pastore: I think it's wonderful. That is just so wonderful. Looks like you just won the twenty million dollars.

Can you say... hero? Tom Junod's profile of Mr. Rogers, from Esquire Magazine
Lexica
by Lexica  2-12-2009    2
"Fred Rogers has been doing the same small good thing for a very long time." This is a wonderful profile of Fred Rogers, written by Tom Junod and published in 1998 by Esquire Magazine. It makes me cry every time I read it. More: …the moment Mister Rogers got out of the car, people wouldn't stay away from him, they respected him so much. Oh, Margy Whitmer tried to keep people away from him, tried to tell people that if they gave her their names and addresses, Mister Rogers would send them an autographed picture, but every time she turned around, there was Mister Rogers putting his arms around someone, or wiping the tears off someone's cheek, or passing around the picture of someone's child, or getting on his knees to talk to a child. Margy couldn't stop them, and she couldn't stop him. "Oh, Mister Rogers, thank you for my childhood." "Oh, Mister Rogers, you're the father I never had." "Oh, Mister Rogers, would you please just hug me?"

  6. He was genuinely curious about others. Mister Rogers was known as one of the toughest interviews because he'd often befriend reporters, asking them tons of questions, taking pictures of them, compiling an album for them at the end of their time together, and calling them after to check in on them and hear about their families. He wasn't concerned with himself, and genuinely loved hearing the life stories of others. And it wasn't just with reporters. Once, on a fancy trip up to a PBS exec's house, he heard the limo driver was going to wait outside for 2 hours, so he insisted the driver come in and join them (which flustered the host). On the way back, Rogers sat up front, and when he learned that they were passing the driver's home on the way, he asked if they could stop in to meet his family. According to the driver, it was one of the best nights of his life the house supposedly lit up when Rogers arrived, and he played jazz piano and bantered with them late into the night.

Simple Low-Tech Home Wins Prize For Sustainability
merrie
by merrie  10-5-2008    3
Woodruff's house uses just 25% of the energy of a conventional house of the same size. His winter power costs are a $30 electricity bill each month and a cord of wood. In the summer, power is needed only for the hot water heater and appliances. Yet the little 1,100-sq.-ft. house is as straightforward as you can get. No high-tech gizmos. No elaborate contortions. The house relies on simple architectural principles -- windows oriented for sunlight, cross breezes for ventilation, overhangs for shade -- basics that were much lauded in the 1940s and '50s, but less emphasized since. They included large doors that can be opened for cross-breezes. They designed the heating so energy is used and reused within rooms. The living/ dining/kitchen area is one big room heated by a wood stove on rainy days, and the sun on sunny days. "The public rooms face east, the logic being you want those to heat up with the sun first in the winter and in the summer, you want to avoid the hot western sun.

Plantation Politics
bmeuppls
by bmeuppls  8-24-2008
Cont..Ultimately, the theme continues for liberals: "self-hating" minorities who deviate from liberal orthodoxy are attacked because liberals view them as turn-coats. For more recent examples, see the treatment Miguel Estrada and Janice Rogers Brown received when the president nominated them to the D.C. Circuit, while the white guy, John Rodgers, sailed through to confirmation. And, recall Justice Thomas' words: "And from my standpoint, as a black American, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you. " The "old order" is liberalism. Mr. Obama's cheap shot against Justice Thomas, which would be applauded in Cambridge and Hyde Park, is the most recent example of the stereotypical left-wing effort to keep minorities on the plantation.

Fail: More Moldy Barracks for Wounded Soldiers
cptenaud
by cptenaud  8-18-2008
Is it really that hard to square away barracks for the wounded? Given this latest eruption of maintenance incompetence and failure in leadership, I'd just like to direct everyone's attention back to a statement made in April by Brigadier General Dennis Rogers--Director of Operations and Facilities for Installation Management Command--in regard to the Fort Bragg barracks situation: "I'll tell you right now before we even start: I assume responsibility for the shortfalls in barracks maintenance which were referenced in the video by Mr. Frawley. We let our soldiers down. And I note that a number of you are veterans, or most of you are veterans, and you served. So you know that there is no excuse for that. We let our soldiers down." Of course, this statement was made after the much-hyped "nationwide walk-through." So what's the deal now? Can we meet the standard, or what? This is pathetic. What incentive do you give people to enlist when this is what you offer them?

Ruling Upholds Homosexual's Right To Prance Around Demanding Attention And Being A Drama Queen
papananook
by papananook  6-9-2008    3
The ruling, which effectively affirms the right of all attention whores to make a complete spectacle of themselves, is already being contested by conservative groups and is expected to be appealed. Carmichael, who also goes by the stage name "Lotta Menn," made a tearful, half-hour-long finger-snapping statement to the press following the historic decision. Enlarge Image Drag Queen A drag queen celebrates outside the Connecticut Supreme Court building. "This is the most wonderful moment of my life, and I thank you all!" Carmichael said while wearing his trademark purple-sequined jacket, oversized Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, and short shorts. He then blew kisses at the assembled reporters, twirled for photographers, and lifted his arms several times above his head in the late-'80s "raise the roof" celebratory dance move. "I only hope I can recover from the living hell I've gone through these past four months—living hell! I am so serious, you guys!"
