POPS New York's Bravest Mourn Lost Brooklyn Firefighter A Brooklyn firehouse that lost five members on 9/11 is again mourning the loss of one of its own today, this one tragically killed while on vacation with his family. NY1’s Amanda Farinacci filed the following report. A flag hangs at half-staff and a bunting waved today outside the quarters of Ladder 111 Engine 214 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, days after 41-year-old firefighter Martin Simmons drowned trying to rescue his son while on vacation in Nevada. “Marty was what we call a premier firefighter in this company,” said firefighter Joe Honan. “He was almost one of the senior guys. He was a guy that took no trouble running things.”

POPSFamily Details Troubled Life Of Man Behind Rampage But then, he said, a Jewish watchdog group stole her away in the dead of night and returned her to her family. Shortly afterward, he was sent to prison for a year, for what other family members and police said were drug-related charges. “The problems started after he was in jail. After he came out of jail, he was always alone. … He is a good man, but after prison, he was confused and nervous,” his cousin said. However, his family arranged a marriage with a young woman from his village, and they now have two young sons. Israeli police spent Wednesday afternoon interrogating his family but then left, and have said they believe he was acting alone.

POPSRembrandt's two renderings of the Binding of Isaac The first one is the one Rembrandt did late in his life, and it's arguably a much superior piece of art. In the early one, the image is violent and dynamic, in the later one, it's much quieter -- characterized by a sense of mourning and consolation.

POPSFamily Devastated Over Iraq Vet's Suicide McCain says it's " not too important " when we end this and bring people home for good. In fact, he's cool with staying 100 years or more . I guess you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs...

POPSScott Mclellan's Too Little, Too Late Book
Like a bad happening in your past you don't wish to recall, that is how I feel about those days after the September 11th fiasco. The PNAC had hoped for a new Pearl Harbor and voilà, that is what they got. When the whole country and part of the world was mourning our loss, these criminals were busy planning their next move to prove how smart they were. Nothing mattered to them except to realize their pipedream. Not lives, money nor respect was of value to them. 'Show the world that only we know what's good for it! Whip the juvenile occupants of Earth into shape!' Now, one of the cabal members has written a book exposing the blackguards for what they are. Only he forgets he was once a member. He may be forgiven if he doesn't profit from his straightforwardness which comes a bit too late to be of any use to those who have suffered and are still suffering. A word of advice to McClellan, "Donate your profits and go to bed and enjoy a peaceful night's sleep." SIGN PETITION

POPSNakba(h) day in pictures It was a day of grief for Palestinians, who refer to the founding of Israel as the Catastrophe, or al-Nakba. Thousands took to the streets to commemorate those exiled or killed in the conflict that followed the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. More than 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled, their property was expropriated and they have not been allowed to return. Nearly 5 million Palestinians and their descendants still live in makeshift refugee camps across the neighbouring region.

POPSCatastrophe. - Bush? Iraq? Palestine? Israel? Well, he's being wrong on everything for 7 years, why should he change now? Why does this simple statement not penetrate the brains of those fanatics that followed his every word only to find they were lying deceitful devil words? Why should those that no longer believe in WMD for their service persons deaths, still cling to his crap about Iran, Hamas, Hizbollah etc. When was he truthful? Is he the devil? Sorry if I've asked difficult questions of the very few who are not used to thinking for themselves. Where can they look now that the emperor has NO clothes al all. POW McCain? A WOMAN? A BLACK? Ask the pastor who said Bush? Mental meltdown! Brain seizure from lack of use!

POPSOnly the Creepiest Photo Ever Taken "These photographs were a common aspect of American culture, a part of the mourning process. Surviving families were proud of these images and hung them in their homes, sent copies to friends and relatives, wore them as lockets or carried them as pocket mirrors. Nineteenth-century Americans knew how to respond to these images. Today there is no culturally normative response to postmortem photographs."

POPSChristians Mourn Hizbollah Murder Shehadeh, 45, was open to rival theological thought as he always carried a card with a Koranic verse on one side and a picture of the Virgin Mary and Jesus on the other. Yet it was mostly his crusading against corruption in the PA and Fatah as well as his support for locals that won Christian support. The reason he was popular was because he presented a symbol of those individuals who were engaging in resistance,' Awad said. 'People are seeing that Hizbollah has done what others have failed to do either by military operations or negotiations. If Fatah had been able to achieve real steps through negotiations, people would be following that and be feeling more proud of it and more supportive of it,' ...Guardian

POPSColor Psychology Color psychology is concerned with the effects of color on mood, emotion, behavior.Colors are not only used for decorations or adding beauty to an object, but they can be used to determine personality traits to affect people’s mood and to effect on other people around you. Each colour is connected to various areas of our body and will affect us differently emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Several ancient cultures, including the Egyptians and Chinese, practiced chromotherapy, or using colors to heal. Chromotherapy is sometimes referred to as light therapy or colourology and is still used today as a holistic or alternative treatment. In this treatment: * Red was used to stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation. * Yellow was thought to stimulate the nerves and purify the body. * Orange was used to heal the lungs and to increase energy levels. * Blue was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain. I'll take red :-)

POPS Middle-East Anaylsis Daniel Pipes Report by Daniel Pipes January 17, 2008 Jerusalem Post George W. Bush's policies toward the Middle East and Islam will loom large when historians judge his presidency. On the occasion of his concluding his 8-day, 6-country trip to the Middle East and entering his final year in office, I offer some provisional assessments. At a time when George W. Bush arouses such intense vituperation among his critics, someone who wishes him well, like myself, criticizes reluctantly. But criticize one must; to pretend all is well, or to remain loyal to the person despite his record, does no one a favor. A frank recognition of shortcomings must precede their repair.
