POPSCan we learn to love uncertainty? "... Yet they are all defined in terms of the unsettling lack of something positive or better. It is perhaps for that reason that the stories of those who discovered these uncertainties have been largely overlooked. This is why I made Dangerous Knowledge for BBC television: to champion the incomplete, the uncomputable and the uncertain."

POPSChildren Of God "We may never know much about the individual circumstances of the young women in these pages or, most important, whether the relationships that carried some of them into motherhood were forced upon them. The women Sinclair met offered no information about the nature of their marriages or who the fathers of their children are."

POPSGood job making that baby By Maggie Mason from MightyGirl. BNM says: With the latest crop of celebrity babies, the magazine covers are loaded with "how I lost the baby weight" stories. The outright disdain and loathing that Hollywood has for body fat is sad. You can't even create an entire human being without someone curling their lip at your glorious birthing hips, your nourishing thighs, your comforting breasts, your full joyful face. POPS"A Camera, 2 Kids, & A Camel" The Work of Annie Griffiths Belt "As a photographer I have learned that women really do hold up half the sky; that language isn't always necessary, but touch usually is; that all people are not alike, but they do mostly have the same hopes and fears; that judging others does great harm but listening to them enriches; that it is impossible to hate a group of people once you get to know one of them as an individual." (Annie Griffiths Belt) "A Camera, Two Kids and a Camel" is a photo memoir of her life, that discloses the secrets of a peripatetic life...revealing in often hilarious detail how she managed to juggle two children, bulky cases of camera equipment and everything needed for a nurturing family life as she traveled to far-flung destinations around the world. An award-winning photojournalist and mother of two has lived a life we only dream about...to see and share the world with your family.

POPSMaternity Leave for Students Thankfully Colorado rejected federal "abstinence only" money. I've worked with populations where teenage motherhood is endemic, and I was constantly struck by how many of the girls and women never graduated high school. When education is not seen as important, the next generation follows suit, and the next thing you know, you're a grandmother at 30. It is imperative that all of our kids, and especially our most vulnerable kids, get comprehensive sex ed, have access to safe and accesible abortion, and support if they do get pregnant and give birth to make sure they graduate high school and can go on to college. In this way cycles are broken.
