POPSIf you cannot speak Texan, gee outta town! Texas is not the only place with people in power embarrassing the town but this is pretty good - fining people for something that's not a crime. It says as much about those who trained and managed them and the courts in their jurisdictions as it does about the officers with misplaced sense of being word police. Question is what would happen if one of these officers got stopped in London - England, not Ohio; could they be cited for refusing to speak the Queen's English?

POPSSpain Considering Torture Related Charges Aganist Bush Administration Officials
Con't: The move represents a step toward ascertaining the legal accountability of top Bush administration officials for allegations of torture and mistreatment of prisoners in the campaign against terrorism. But some American experts said that even if warrants were issued their significance could be more symbolic than practical, and that it was a near certainty that the warrants would not lead to arrests if the officials did not leave the United States. The complaint under review also names John C. Yoo, the former Justice Department lawyer who wrote secret legal opinions saying the president had the authority to circumvent the Geneva Conventions, and Douglas J. Feith, the former under secretary of defense for policy. The court case was not entirely unexpected, as several human rights groups have been asking judges in different countries to indict Bush administration officials. One group, the Center for Constitutional Rights, had asked a German prosecutor for such an indict

POPSA funny thing happened on the way to the Forum . . continued: 'One of my favourite jokes from the book, and probably one of the longest, is about a barber, a professor and a bald man,' she added (see panel above). Another of the jokes - said to be dated to 248AD when Rome held what was billed as the 'Millennium Games' - tells the story of a distraught athlete. 'Never mind,' says a spectator. 'You can always try again at the next Millennium Games.' There is also an ancient version of the Monty Python dead parrot sketch. It reads: 'A man buys a slave, who dies soon after. When he complains, the slave seller replies, "Well, he didn't die when I owned him".'

POPSMonty Python, buried treasure & the pirate bay
In the Pirate Bay trial closing statements, the defence held the Pirate Bay site didn't hold any copyright films or music -- it merely acted as a search engine -- and that no copyrighted content passed through it anyway. The prosecution had failed to produce any uploaders or downloaders, and had not shown their actions were illegal where they happened to live. Wired said: In the courtroom, the defendants quickly abandoned their revolutionary, free-culture ideals in favor of the simpler philosophy embraced by criminal defendants since time immemorial: I'm Not Responsible. The verdict is due on April 17. "Steal This Film" is a film series documenting the movement against intellectual property produced by The League of Noble Peers and released via the BitTorrent peer-to-peer protocol. Part One, combines accounts from prominent players in the dish piracy culture (The Pirate Bay, Piratbyrån, and the Pirate Party) with found material, propaganda-like slogans and Vox Pops.
