POPSHarvard: Swine Flu Pandemic Oversold; Fear Mongering Gov't To Blame? A little speculation here as to motives. Mine leans more to promoting the need for the universal health care system that was/is being forced upon us. As the article says, this is not to minimize the deaths of those who died from this strand of flu. All of us need to be vigilant and careful; but not for one minute did I believe this was going to be a global disaster. I'm not the brightest bulb in the box but discernment and common sense need to abound.

POPS Does Anyone Believe Obama? Obama told Gibson that anybody who says they are concerned about the rising deficit or worried about tax increases in the future has to support this health care bill. ABC NEWS http://bit.ly/4Xi39G “Because if we don't do this, nobody argues with the fact that health care costs are going to consume the entire federal budget,” the president said. Most Americans realize by now that he'll say anything to advance his agenda. I doubt they're even listening. Propaganda is inherently boring. I'd like to see a poll that measures his credibility. He's lost the independents and there's a real sense of betrayal on the left, along with fear that January will be just as wee-weed up as August.

POPSJon Stewart Rips KSM Trial Criticism & Fear-Mongering propaganda exposed, see video at source beginning at 3:30 mark The truth is that KSM is being tried as a patsy to bring "closure" to the official 9/11 (lie) story , since Bin Laden will never be found "dead or alive". KSM does not have the credibility or mental competence to be "mastermind" of anything. Finally, the "confession" of KSM is "fantasy" gained by torture: See former CIA agent Bob Baer on KSM and torture (video).

POPSObama's Decision on Afghanistan: Surge! OBushma policy: No 'change' here in this "war of necessity", per Obama. (Never blindly trust a government that uses this phrase, as if to shut down all opposition and end all questioning). This "war of necessity" is merely the parroting the same fear-mongering, unproven, baseless propaganda the GOP is claiming here too: President Barack Obama: "This is not a war of choice. This is a war of necessity. Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. right...we heard the same fear-mongering from Bush. I thought this was all going to "change" (not really).

POPSOne Reason Not To Spend 10 Minutes and 35 Seconds With John Piper He gets a "A" for his efforts at fear mongering. "As the church continues to debate the issue of homosexuality, we find ourselves facing another culture of fear. Many in the church fear those who are other, who are different, and are able to find ways to manipulate scripture to support this fear. And it certainly doesn’t help when extremely influential Christian leaders like John Piper make absolutely ridiculous statements about the connection between a freak tornado and an ELCA meeting. I have to wonder if even John Piper really believes what he has written – or whether this is a convenient way to support the discrimination and hate of the LGBT community. This is conspiratorial bunk that uses the bible as a weapon of ideology, not a source to find God's grace."

POPSGovernment health care rescues protesters at anti-government health care rally. By the end of the day, “medics had administered government-run health care to at least five people in the crowd who were stricken as they denounced government-run health care.” Bachmann=proof that being severely developmentally and emotionally delayed does not preclude Government service. Ironically, she's the best argument that the government should not be running anything.

POPSShhhh! Census Worker May Have Committed Suicide * The Democratic Underground quickly posted a ‘Handy Guide to how Republicans and Fox News are responsible for Census worker being hanged'. * Rachel Maddow suggested Sparkman was killed simply because ‘he was a federal employee'. * Time chalked it up to government distrust, a sentiment fanned by ‘talk media, tea parties and white-hot town-hall meetings'. * The Huffington Post immediately assumed this was a case of right-wing paranoia. * True/Slant opined that the body of Sparkman should be shipped to Glenn Beck. * Think Progress pointed the finger at Michelle Bachman and her ‘inflammatory and fear-mongering rhetoric against the Census'. * New York Magazine linked the death to that of ‘some wide-eyed, hysterical woman' named Michelle Bachman. (The irony in this is that the reference to a wide-eyed, hysterical woman was made in an article mentioning Nancy Pelosi).

POPSMaine Puritans Deny Rights The Religious Right is alive and well in Maine. At least for 53% of the population. Distaste for anyone who doesn't share their sexual inclinations combined with a healthy dose of religiously fueled hate mongering have combined to deny rights to the LBGT community in Maine. Congratulations citizens of Maine. You've won in your quest to deny basic rights to a sizable portion of your population and should be proud that you've turned them into second class citizens.

POPSTop Researcher On Cervical Cancer Vaccine Warns About Its Dangers So why do cervical cancer vaccines continue to be pushed by doctors and health authorities across the US, UK and other first-world nations? Because Big Pharma is the great corporate puppeteer that's pulling the strings of legislators. With enough money and lobbyists, you can always overcome scientific thinking with fear-based marketing and under-the-table deal-making. Science-based medicine has no place in a world where disease is big business. There's a ridiculous amount of money to be made by pushing vaccines onto people who don't need them. If I had ten bucks for every teenage girl that's been injected with a cervical cancer vaccine, I'd be... well... GlaxoSmithKline.

POPSIn Which Obama Has A General Problem, Just Like A Real President*
The tug-o-war playground politics of the matter aside, there is still the fact of war in Afghanistan, a persistent global threat, and the rapidly diminishing credibility of the United States as a stalwart, moral force in the world, from the limp handling of Iran to the delivery of tribute to Vladimir Putin, and now the dawdling and dithering over the erstwhile good war. For all their squawking about us, the Euros don’t need us to be another EU member. They need someone to do the dirty work. Ditto the Arabs. China and Russia have got to be enjoying this, though. On second thought, there is a sort of double-reverse presidential precedent to this crisis. It’s Obama as McClellan. Not exactly Lincolnesque, but very Lincoln-proximate. Totally related: Victor Davis Hanson at NRO looks at Two-Front Wars, Theirs and Ours and comes away with something other than the currently fashionable doom-and-gloom mongering. It’s al-Qaeda after eight years of war, on the ropes and desperate.

POPSInsurance companies: "Domestic violence is a pre-existing condition." Your partner hit you? No health insurance for you, ever! This is WRONG. More: “In 1995, the Boston Globe found that Nationwide, Allstate, State Farm, Aetna, Metropolitan Life, The Equitable Companies, First Colony Life, The Prudential and the Principal Financial Group had all either canceled or denied coverage to women who’d been beaten.” Source

POPSYoung Man Dies for Lack of Public Option I want to tell you about my only sibling, my brother Eric De La Cruz.1 Diagnosed with Severe Dilated Cardiomyopathy five years ago and in need of a heart transplant, my brother Eric passed away far too early this July 4th. All because the health care insurance system in the United States is broken. You see, unlike most of us (but like millions of others), Eric couldn't get private insurance. His employer didn't offer it as a benefit. And his heart condition, while treatable, was a pre-existing condition that no private insurers would cover. Sadly, there was no affordable, public option to protect Eric. So he remained excluded from the basic right to life-saving treatment that all people deserve. Although a heart transplant would save him, without coverage, Eric's condition needlessly and slowly deteriorated. Continued at source....+ details of 'support health insurance reform' rallies around the US.

POPSBill O'Rielly and Fox (News?) Screwing You? You Bet!
This dialog came from this site: http://letters.mobile.salon.com/opinion/feature/2009/06/29/family_values/view/index.html It says it all concerning conservative wingnuts such as Fox (You Call That News?)! Q: How many conservative wingnuts does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A: There will be no screwing ...unless their name is Craig, Vitter, Sanford, Foley or Ensign:eek: ...Perhaps (right) wingnuts should try being human... That's the core issue here, conservative policies are INHUMANE, war, plundered economy and constitutional rights, laws that let corp. scam artists run amok... (pro-choice hate mongering) If the question was asked ... what kind of policy do Americans support without context to politics, the majority of people's answers would be "liberal" and "moderate" on issues such as job security, regulations of financial institutions, universal health coverage, education and social security. F**k (Right) wingnuts...and I don't mean screw or sex.

POPSAfghan elections: fraud, violence, intimidation
This article, from the BBC, is a nice "objective summary." I don't know about you --- and I'm a voter -- but if there was bombs at some polling places, people were threatening to cut my finger off if I voted, and voter fraud by ruthless warlords and their cohorts was pretty much guaranteed, plus a Major Foreign Power was pulling all the strings....it would make it more difficult. Not to mention having to talk about it on forums where cynics say voting is a waste of time anyway. gosh...that's a lot to go through. But, of course, citizenbfk would get to the polls - do or die - that's a fact, jack; that's the way it is. 'Cause, voting is not a waste of time. Even the 'evildoers," and war lords gotta go through the shame of elections. Because it comes down to pushing people around with violence and guns or pushing people around with fear mongering and hate. and fearmongering and hate can be opposed with righteousness and caring...but guns can only be opposed with guns.
