POPSForget black holes, could the LHC trigger a “Bose supernova”? Nobody is exactly sure how these explosions proceed which is a tad worrying for the following reason: some clever clogs has pointed out that superfluid helium is a BEC and that the LHC is swimming in 700,000 litres of the stuff. Not only that but the entire thing is bathed in some of the most powerful magnetic fields on the planet. If not for anything else, the LHC has become a modern doom spelling myth. The universe is about to punish us for prying on its privacy... These modern myths are truly fascinating. After Bose Nova? Bose Supernova! :-)

POPSModern Myths More myths at site, such as: <<<talk of values is mainly a catalyst for becoming really, really angry and indignant, and is one of life's great pleasures. An absolutely unspeakable variant of this myth is talk of shared values, declaimed by politicians while they entertain dignitaries from, say, Saudi Arabia or Russia, China or Africa, and oddly supposed not to refer to obvious examples, such as a mutual liking for propaganda, deceit, power, war and bribery.>>>

POPSJohn McCain, the GOP Nominee? Bring Him On! His wooden delivery of stump speeches -- sometimes offered while staring at his notes -- and some incidents in which he's appeared "confused" -- he referred to Vladimir Putin as the president of Germany -- are vulnerabilities for a 71 year-old candidate. Most people still haven't had a chance to see and hear from these candidates at length this cycle, and while we all decry the fact that people often make political decisions based on the candidates' mannerisms or appearances rather than on the issues, in a race against a cranky, old-looking and somewhat out-of-it McCain, the War of Appearances is likely to be won handily by either of the potential Dem nominees.

POPSCrossover fun in the Wold Newton Universe Like fiction? Like alternate reality? Like thinking about Buffy Summers being descended from a line of superhumans? Read within... for a "theory of everything" as it applies to heroic (and apparently, villainous) characters.

POPSA New History: Oppression, Political Power and Human Factor If in the Middle Ages power was the Catholic Church or the feudal princes, in the (I) Modern Era (1750-1950) and (II) Postmodern Era (1950-2001) it was money. Money -- capital -- imposes its logic not only by a false "nature" that benefits the progress of the world but through old institutions like (1) the armies, (2) the churches, (3) the financial centers and (4) the mass media.
