Chiropracters - Help or Snake-Oil
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  7-29-2009    17
I've met people who adamantly support chiropractors. I went to one 15-20 years ago and can't say he did much good. I've become more skeptical over the years. I've become especially skeptical over the ones who dabble in such disproven scams as homeopathy and reflexology. IMO, they all should be required to warn their patients that the placebo effect is alive and well, thank you.

Now we are at the point that food and healthcare systems simply cannot exist anymore in the same manner as before. Prevailing majority of modern diseases in one way or another linked to these two spheres; instead of to be healing factors they are threatening and damaging. We have no choice but changing it. Can we do it? Yes we can!:)

Don't Blame The Pig
debbyski
by debbyski  5-9-2009    1
"Though pigs provided a share of the raw material, he and others said, the viral bomb probably couldn't have been assembled without a small cadre of jet-setting humans carrying flu viruses across oceans, unwittingly mixing and matching them -- perhaps inside their own bodies. "Do pigs contribute to the flu gene pool? Yeah, and so do people and so do wild birds," said Dr. Kurt Rossow of the University of Minnesota, who studies diseases in people who handle pigs. "I just don't agree that pigs are an evil mixing vessel just boiling over with flu that's pumping out to people on a regular basis. If accusing fingers have pointed at pigs, they have also pointed at modern-day pig-farming practices."

Shame Canada, Shame, Alberta.
ratcatcher2
by ratcatcher2  3-1-2009    4
The Co-operative Bank will announce today that it is to fund a legal challenge by the Beaver Lake Cree Nation, which claims the boom in tar sands extraction is destroying their hunting and fishing lands. The court challenge calls for an injunction to stop more than 16,000 permits issued by the Alberta state government and, if successful, could dramatically reduce or even stop what has been described as a modern day "gold rush" for the oil, spurred by the expectation of high long-term oil prices. Last year the International Energy Agency estimated that the amount of oil in tar sands and other "unconventional" sources, especially in Canada and Venezuela, was 1-2tn barrels, only slightly less than the remaining conventional oil sources. Companies involved include Shell, BP, ConocoPhillips and Total.

Finding the Best Cure for Impotence
penelan11
by penelan11  11-23-2008
Well, it has to be so since today’s lifestyle seems to have helped increase the number of cases. The launching of Viagra in the ‘90s and the huge marketing campaign around that product had shined a light on erectile dysfunction, since men who found a solution in these pills were no longer ashamed to admit their past problems. But between Viagra, Cialis and Levitra and a host of natural or herbal remedies, men are simply confused about which is the best cure for impotence. Confusion leads to distrust and also to a need to seek impotence help from sources who can offer good guidance. Erectile dysfunctions have both physiological and psychological causes. Many such causes are medically reversible, others are not. Any condition that interferes with the flow of blood through the body is bound to have a negative impact on a man’s sex life. Diabetes is a good example of a disease hampering blood flow, as are kidney diseases, chronic alcoholism and multiple sclerosis.

coconutoil.com: learn the truth about coconut oil
Lexica
by Lexica  8-3-2008
The more reading and research I do, the more it seems that we've been sold a bundle of lies about food. How many things that we were told were horrible seem to actually be fine? Butter, eggs, saturated fats, etc. And the things that were supposed to be healthy are really not. Vegetable shortening/margarine/other hydrogenated fats, canola oil, fat-free/sugar-free stuff, non-fat dairy products... I find myself leaning more and more towards Michael Pollan's advice: If your grandmother* wouldn't recognize it, you shouldn't eat it. *Your grandmother, or somebody else's – I don't think either of my grandmothers would have recognized fish sauce, chana dal, or pickled ginger, but if she'd been Thai, Indian, or Japanese, they would have.

Were Ancient Viruses a Key to Human Evolution?
Mohir
by Mohir  8-1-2008
These viral fragments are fossils that reside within each of us, carrying a record that goes back millions of years. Because they no longer seem to serve a purpose or cause harm, these remnants have often been referred to as “junk DNA.” Although many of these evolutionary relics still manage to generate proteins, scientists have never found one that functions properly in humans or that could make us sick. That is until Thierry Heidmann who runs the laboratory at the Institut Gustave Roussy, on the southern edge of Paris, brought one to life. Heidmann long suspected that if a retrovirus happens to infect a human sperm cell or egg, which is rare, and if that embryo survives—which is rarer still—the retrovirus could have the evolutionary power to influence humans as a species becoming part of the genetic blueprint, passed from mother to child, and from one generation to the next, much like a gene for eye color or asthma.
