POPS1 Million Spiders Make Golden Silk for Rare Cloth Peers came up with the idea of weaving spider silk after learning about the French missionary Jacob Paul Camboué, who worked with spiders in Madagascar during the 1880s and 1890s. Camboué built a small, hand-driven machine to extract silk from up to 24 spiders at once, without harming them.

POPS"The Family" - Fundamentalism, Friends In High Places Headquartered in Washington, D.C. at a place known as the "C Street Center" or "Fellowship House," this 1890 townhouse, located behind the Madison Annex of the Library of Congress and near the United States Capitol, has 12 bedrooms, nine bathrooms, five living rooms, four dining rooms, three offices, a kitchen, and a small "chapel". The property is exempt from real property taxes because it is classified as a "special purpose" use. District of Columbia law exempts from taxation "buildings belonging to religious corporations or societies primarily and regularly used for religious worship, study, training, and missionary activities" and "buildings belonging to organizations which are charged with the administration, coordination, or unification of activities, locally or otherwise, of institutions or organizations entitled to exemption."

POPSPHOTOS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD II. More of the best and the worst of us, some are shocking, but should not be ignored. Explanations for each are on the website. Thought about flagging this as mature due to the graphic nature of some pictures, but I don't think you should censor history.

POPSVintage Rio These pictures came into my possession by way of a friend whose father came to Brazil as a missionary in the mid 1930's. They come from postcards he gathered while in Rio. I have others from the city of Belem, as well as pictures he took of the region where I live, but these shots of Rio in the '30s are spectacular.

POPSAnd I thought Portland was a Biking town ... But this ... this is clearly what I would call a bicyclers Capitol. I've never been to Amsterdam, although I've met several people from there, and even a missionary who went there to try and help the younger generation connect with their spiritual lives. But, I have ALWAYS been impressed with the biking culture they have there. This post, and these pictures goes a long way in describing it. Mostly, I just loved the pics, and thought you might like to see what a LOT of bikes looks like.

POPSPakistan faces Christian protest after eight people 'burned alive' Missionary schools across Pakistan closed on Monday in a three day protest against the deaths of up to seven Christians who were burned alive in clashes with Muslims. But glad the atheists are ignoring this because it only makes sense to condemn the victims who are being burned alive. Nice. So atheists, tell me, are there any Christians who need to be condemned because they asked a girl who was disrupting a classroom during Sunday School to "be quiet." I know it's horrific that a Christian could do such a thing as asking someone to be quiet during church. I mean, burning someone alive isn't nearly as bad....dontcha think?
