POPSCandidates' Approaches to Energy I'm glad to see both candidates very focused on energy policy - it's something this country has been lacking for a very long time. I have to agree with Obama on this one, with one big caveat. That he doesn't earmark the money brought in for more wasteful government spending. No public interest programs, or doing colleagues favors by funding their efforts. Use that money to reduce our deficit, fund research into alternative energy, and give the rest back to the taxpayers. I'm a democrat, but one of the things I can't stand about many democrats is government spending. Let's reduce the amount of government programs and give more of that money back to taxpayers.

POPSThe Fed Must Strengthen The Dollar
Since 1948, inflation has averaged 3.7% per year, unemployment 5.6%, and real GDP growth 3.4%. But the 10 lowest inflation years (between 1949-62, and 1986) averaged 0.5% inflation and 5.2% unemployment, along with 3.5% GDP growth. And the 10 high inflation years (between 1973-81, 1969, and 1990) averaged 9.1% in consumer price increases, along with 6.2% unemployment and 2.6% in growth. In other words, low inflation was often associated with lower unemployment and stronger GDP growth than high-inflation years. More strikingly, the years following the 10 lowest inflation years were even better in terms of performance (averaging 5.1% unemployment and 4.4% growth), and the years following the high inflation years were even worse (7% unemployment and 1.4% GDP growth). This record shows the importance of sound money, fostering an environment allowing the key growth drivers of entrepreneurship and capital investment to flourish under stable long-run expectations.

POPSOBAMA UNCOVERED: A Citizen's Guide to Barack Obama "AIPAC approved" should tell you most of what you need to know. Why do you think neocons like William Kristol (founder Project for New American Century) and Bill Bennett speak highly of him? READ IT and see what "change" means.

POPSBush Lies Again...and again...and again Make no mistake. Bush's real reason for this veto is his indebtedness to his rich friends in the insurance industry. He doesn't care about health care. He cares about profits and an economy based on the doctrines of Milton Friedman. Bush even made remarks to this the last time he vetoed this legislation saying that he would never allow "socialized" medicine in this country. What a dork.

POPSClassical Liberalism During the early to mid 20th century, there was an entire group of writers, business owners, and academics who argued for laissez faire capitalism that affected the philosophies and actions of economists like Milton Friedman and Alan Greenspan. I think it is good to know the historical roots of various movements and how they are used for good or ill. It reminds me of what happened to an author on the other side of the political road. As a result of the writings of Thomas Payne, when he tried to help the French, unscrupulous people , namely Robespierre, took advantage of the situation, and Thomas Paine was imprisoned, barely escaping the guillotine. While Classical Liberalism is attractive, I believe what we see today is often a perversion used by those who don't really believe in its basic precepts.

POPSTHE SHOCK DOCTRINE: The rise of disaster capitalism
I am clipmarking this in part because I received a comment on another clipmarks - Dear thinkingblue, Dear thinkingblue, I'm just picking out your clip and comment to make a general observation about the attitude of so many in this country today. I would venture to say that most with this attitude are too young to have any real understanding or experience of, say- WWI or WWII. When faced with an enemy that threatens the survival of our nation and freedoms, the MAIN responsibility of Our President is to protect us, individually and collectively (as a Nation). What saddens me today is that so many have adopted the views of the Liberal Media, simply because they have heard these opinions repeated over and over again for years now. The definition of this process is "Deception by Propaganda". If everyone would reserve their opinions on important matters until they actually did some research and gave issues some thought, instead of swallowing, then repeating what they here. (continued)

POPSShocking Short Film on Economic Manipulation I wonder how many of us know how manipulated we really are by pricks like Milton Friedman and his capitalist war-mongering friends? This film warns that we must arm ourselves against the "shock doctrine" by staying inormed and communicative. Amen to that.
