POPSDorothea Lange - Artist With Vision Beyond The Lens Of Any Camera (Errata Clog)
In response to my clog post entitled, "Strong Support For Health Care Reform With Public Option," I have participated in some discussions about the stunning work of Dorothea Lange. As many of you may know, Dorothea Lange is the photographer/artist who took the famous picture, "Migrant Mother," which is featured in my clog. I entitled this picture incorrectly as "The Dust Bowl," so please accept my apologies for this error. If any of my clogs ever contain incorrect information of this nature, I ask that my readers let me know right away. Aside from correcting errata, I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight Dorothea Lange's work further in the clips below. I clipped these bits from the My Hero website. Dorothea Lange is an interesting individual who, in my opinion, captured the class struggles in this country better than any artist of her day with a medium that was not then fully realized. Dorothea Lange died on October 16, 1965. If you are not familiar with the life

POPSPolitics is Everything! 64% increase in pay rate is a fair increase for all you Rich Americans! Pay up, or don't eat tomatoes this year! What is CIW, the Coalition of Immokaklee Workers Union? There was an immediate payoff: Chipotle Mexican Grill, the enlightened burrito chain with nearly 900 restaurants across the country, agreed to buy its tomatoes from East Coast Growers (Chipotle had previously declined to support the Fair Food program). Despite the good news, the CIW still has plenty of work to do. Wonder why they changed their mind?

POPSBurmese migrant workers in Thailand About an hour’s drive west of Thailand’s second largest city of Chiang Mai is Pong Yang Nai, a cluster of small farms surrounded by hills covered with lush vegetation. At this time of year, a merciless sun beats down on the agricultural workers ploughing the fields or planting chilies, flowers and vegetables. On any given day as many as 800 people labour here - the majority are impoverished migrant workers from neighbouring Burma. Nang Kham is a member of the Shan minority group. Like the Karen and Karenni minorities, the Shan have long suffered from poverty and human rights abuses in eastern Burma.

POPSRoad to Riches Ends for 20 Million Chinese Poor I have a great idea that will save both our countries. Send Obama to China... permanently. He will fit right in. He's a communist, and will understand how to bankrupt the country and distribute wealth to those who don't earn it. He might even start another Great Leap Forward of massive starvation.

POPSchina's labor unrest worse than expected this went on to say that this legal advocates office was broken into on Jan. 9th and that 600 legal case files. 160 law books his computer-photocopier-t.v. and 100,000 yuan in cash were stolen.............he was also ambushed that night by 5 men- and has since then been evicted from his home- he feels this is due to his defying bribery and threats - by speaking to foreign media in an effort to get the word out of these deplorable conditions

POPSIt Won't Steal Their Dream Because I could be attracted to men and have successful relationships with them, I could fit into society. But I always knew how it felt to be different and I would hide it just like these guys did. It takes a lot of courage to do what they did and I just don't understand why anyone would care who they love. I don't think I ever will understand it.

POPSNo Matter How You Cut It - Migrants Getting Shaft Too Good on You Court! Migrant workers have always been exploited, that's why many US employers say that "American" workers won't do the work - so they can legally employ guest workers or migrant workers and then not pay them or otherwise exploit them as they could not locals.

POPSConfusing - This Economic Crises - Isn't It? I f documented and undocumented migrant workers in US send less money back to their families and relatives at home, then their relatives can't buy exported US goods and the American economic crisis gets worse. So, we need a bailout plan or economic stimulus plan to get more money into migrant workers' hands so they can send more money home, so they can buy US exports? And all this time, fright mongers were telling us that migrant workers were costing us? See it's confusing and not as simple as the simple minded have been telling us - eh?

POPSFast for Human RIghts! No time like the present to help nation focus on solving its inhumanity to migrant workers than when ICE is stepping up its raids to make Republicans look good before the election.

POPSUnited Nations Theater of the Absurd It is hard not to conclude that the U.N. is up to mischief in commissioning a major investigation during a presidential-election year. Doudou* Diene has a track record of focusing his attention on freedom-loving democratic societies, with damning reports on alleged institutionalized racism in countries such as Japan, Canada, Denmark, and Switzerland. His reports are highly controversial and are usually rejected out of hand by the Western governments he is targeting. Like most other U.N. “Special Rapporteurs” Diene is unaccountable as well as unqualified for the position he holds. The United Nations doesn’t even bother to post his biography online, though his career details can be found on the website of the Organization of American States. His entire career has been spent as a U.N. bureaucrat, with absolutely no real world experience. Even by the dismally low standards of the United Nations, Diene is a spectacular non-entity. *pronounced 'doo-doo'
