POPSDeepwater Methane Hydrate Recovery Experiment A Success In a recent experiment in Lake Baikal, Russian and Japanese researchers recovered methane hydrate, thawed it and transported it to the surface as gas. This could open up a whole new field of energy with both great benefits and the possibility of great consequences to the planet.

POPSArctic permafrost leaking methane at record levels, figures show Of course, Canada Tar Sands oil mines have been pouring huge amounts of C02 right into the heart of the Arctic for decades, and the criminal Canadian goverment plans to increase production (therefore emissions) without any meaningful controls. And the US has approved the building of a new pipeline over the melting tundra. Canadian governments, both Federal and Provincial, should be held accountable by the rest of the world for the consequences.

POPSCassini: Unlocking Saturn's Secrets Do explore the site, there are some wonderful videos. Also, they are talking about Cassini catching a "glint" caused by liquid on Titan. The liquid is NOT water. It's hydrocarbons. Imagine a moon with enough liquid fuel to form lakes on the surface! Examples of common hydrocarbons below: *..Methane and benzene *..Cylinders of Butane and Propane (LPG fuel). *..Gasoline at the gas station. *..Diesel fuel. *..Paraffin oil (for Heating, Oil lamps and Oil picnic stoves) *..Gas Oil (for Furnace fuel). *..IPA; Isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing Oil) from a Pharmacist (Chemists in the UK). *..Cigarette lighter fuel (Butane, or a type of gasoline). *..Candles (Heavy Hydrocarbon Paraffin wax). (Coal and wood also contain Hydrocarbon Compounds)

POPSU.S. Counting on Cows to Reduce Carbon Emissions Over 20 years ago, ALL Naysayers laughed and ridiculed the President, Ronald Reagan when he said cows were a major player in greenhouse gases...The Republicans didn't really back him up, because it did sound ridiculous....Good ole Reagan...

POPSAn Open Letter to the Council of the American Physical Society Studies of a variety of natural processes, including ocean cycles and solar variability, indicate that they can account for variations in the Earth’s climate on the time scale of decades and centuries. Current climate models appear insufficiently reliable to properly account for natural and anthropogenic contributions to past climate change, much less project future climate. The APS supports an objective scientific effort to understand the effects of all processes – natural and human --on the Earth’s climate and the biosphere’s response to climate change, and promotes technological options for meeting challenges of future climate changes, regardless of cause. POPS Meat creates half of all greenhouse gases People are cutting down rain forests to make grazing land for cattle, or to grow soya beans for cattle to eat. Now the numbers of methane emitting livestock are orders of magnitude greater than they were only 50 years ago.

POPSIt Has The Stench Of Opportunity By reducing the amount of the potent greenhouse gas released into the air, the projects also potentially could turn cow dung into dollars, if a climate bill before Congress becomes law. "Agriculture and agribusiness is what Greeley is all about," Biggi said. "We needed to take that strong traditional economic base and ... merge it with emerging renewable energy and technology." Waste may be the new energy crop in these parts. But elsewhere, communities are looking anew at power sources such as the sun and wind that may exist in their own backyards.

POPSEnergy Crisis Postponed: New Gas Rescues The World
Tony Hayward, BP's chief executive, said proven natural gas reserves around the world have risen to 1.2 trillion barrels of oil equivalent, enough for 60 years' supply " and rising fast. "There has been a revolution in the gas fields of North America. Reserve estimates are rising sharply as technology unlocks unconventional resources," he said. "The common wisdom was that unconventional gas was too difficult, too expensive and too demanding," he said, according to Petroleum Economist. "This has changed. If we ever doubted that gas was the fuel of the future " in many ways there's the answer." The breakthrough has been to combine 3-D seismic imaging with new technologies to free "tight gas" by smashing rocks, known as hydro-fracturing or "fracking" in the trade. The US is leading the charge. Operations in Pennsylvania and Texas have already been sufficient to cut US imports of liquefied natural gas (LGN) from Trinidad and Qatar to almost nil,

POPSEnergy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world
"The common wisdom was that unconventional gas was too difficult, too expensive and too demanding," he said, according to Petroleum Economist. "This has changed. If we ever doubted that gas was the fuel of the future – in many ways there's the answer." The breakthrough has been to combine 3-D seismic imaging with new technologies to free "tight gas" by smashing rocks, known as hydro-fracturing or "fracking" in the trade. The US is leading the charge. Operations in Pennsylvania and Texas have already been sufficient to cut US imports of liquefied natural gas (LGN) from Trinidad and Qatar to almost nil, with knock-on effects for the global gas market – and crude oil. It is one reason why spot prices for some LNG deliveries have dropped to 50pc of pipeline contracts. We may soon be looking at an era when gas, wind and solar power, combined with a smarter grid and a switch to electric cars returns the country to near energy self-sufficiency.

POPSI need to recharge my cell phone - everyone into the loo! How much will you do to make the planet greener? How about installing a biodigester to power your computer - pass the beans please? Grin. It really is tried a true way to produce electricity but not usually one household at a time. In India and China folks bring their waste to a communal digester that gives them all some needed cheap electricity from burning methane or just gas for the stove.

POPSEarth Experiment Could Buy Precious Time Initial results suggest that the biggest cooling would occur in the polar regions, which is consistent with theory, and is exactly the place where cooling is most needed. The big advantages of this scheme are that it uses sea water spray, a naturally occurring substance, and that it can be turned off immediately if there are any undesirable consequences.

POPSThe Cow Pie BioGas and Flu Connection When you take cow pies from dairy farms and from feed lots around the world and dump them into an anaerobic digester as well as manure fro pig farms and from chicken and utrkey farms - you get methane gas that can be bottled, piped and will burn more cleanly than carbon based gas. AND, and, and since during the digester process, the manure is raisde to over 104 degrees F for more than three hours, the viruses that carry influenza to ppigs and people are killed, do not mutate into new forms and other nasty viruses that kill animals and humans are also zapped. Fill up on cow, pig and chicken plop for a healthier planet!

POPSClimate trouble may be bubbling up in far north By CHARLES J. HANLEY (AP) – 13 hours ago I think the chilling comment is "They said up to 10 percent of the undersea permafrost area had melted, and it was "highly possible" that this would open the way to abrupt release of an estimated 50 billion tons of methane".
