Should adult adoptees have rights to their birth certificates?
ronhuxley
by ronhuxley  Today 11:55 AM
November is National Adoption Month and I am going to try and highlight some of the concerns going on in the field of adoptions and post-adoption mental health (my specialty) to raise some more awareness on the topic. I am going to try and be fair and show both sides of the issues. Basically, I want to hear your thoughts and concerns. Tweet me a reply or post a comment below... The article clip below asks the questions of why states don't let adult adoptees have access to their birth certificates? What are your thoughts on it?

Murder-Suicide in Families (DoJ Report)
sahara
by sahara  10-25-2009
Previous history of abuse is by far the most dominant risk factor. In one study, 82 percent of the men who killed their intimate partners were known to the authorities — treatment professionals, the military or the criminal justice system, for example . In most cases, the man exhibits possessive, obsessive and jealous behavior. There is a gradual build-up of tensions and conflicts after which an event leads the man to act. The triggering event is often the woman’s announcement that she is leaving. The time immediately after a woman leaves an abusive partner is the most dangerous . Read an article from the NIJ Journal about a tool to help assess a woman’s risk of being a victim of murder suicide (pdf, 6 pages).

Flu Alert: 10 Warning Signs to Call the Doctor
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  10-24-2009
People at higher risk for severe illness include pregnant women, young children, and adults with chronic illnesses or weak immune systems. Those of us caring for older adults feel particularly worried, because seniors are generally at high risk for getting very sick from seasonal influenza. The H1N1 strain is a little different in this respect; adults over 60 seem to be somewhat protected from it. Still, when older adults get sick, we need to watch them carefully to make sure it’s not developing into something more serious.

 1. Tired of feeling like hell in the morning. 2. Tired of looking as bad as I felt each morning. 3. Tired of going into work trying to keep my distance from people because I knew that I still reeked of alcohol. 4. Tired of getting DWIs. 5. Tired of living in fear and worrying about if I was going to go to jail for a long period of time because of the next DWI. 6. Tired of wrecking cars and praying that I would not injure or kill someone. 7. Tired of spending all my money on alcohol, lawyers and courts. 8. Tired of trying to convince myself that I could go out and just have a few beers. 9. Tired of waking up full of self hatred because once again I had failed to ‘just have a few’. 10. Tired of calling in sick to work, when both my boss and I knew the truth. ....... www.mental-health-tips.info
