citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  2-7-2010
It's In the News: The President is having a Superbowl Party. An opponent tweets he's surprised the President is not watching ice skating instead. This makes the news. Country western star Carrie Underwood will sing the national anthem. Hip-hop Queen Latifah will sing 'America the Beautiful." Geriatric British rockers, The Who, will do the half-time show. Someone tried to copywrite The New Orlean's Saint's cheer, known as: Who Dat? "Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?" Who dat?" (This speech style is becoming knows as Afro-American Vernacular English...or, say wat?) The Madden video game has become noted for predicting the winner. Enter the teams. Let it play out. It says Colts win 35-27. Las Vegas gamblers say Colts win 32-28. The 'Predicting Nun," says Colts win 27-24. A USA TV audience of over 100 million is expected. People rate the commercials. and half-time shows: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shawn-amos/super-bowl-halftime-show_

jerry23w

'..as effective as drugs, cutting the rate of psychotic illness.. .. by a quarter.' One can only assume from this statement that drugs are only effective 25% of the time anyway.. I just hope this doesnt lead to a ban on omega 3 or fish oils here in Ireland similar to the current ban of St Johnswort..

O'Byrne, head of mental health at the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital, of "immediate concerns of physical safety" due to mistreated Marines teetering on the edge of violence. “There was -- and continues to be -- no means of discussion of high-intensity/dangerous cases,” he wrote. Later that month, Manion quoted to O’Byrne some Marine superiors who were calling troubled Marines “worthless pieces of shit” if they sought help.

First Years: Secondhand smoke can effect sleep quality
murieleileen
by murieleileen  1-31-2010    1
Children who live with smokers have higher rates of asthma than those who live with non-smokers. Children born to mothers who smoke during pregnancy are 10 times more likely to be born with or develop asthma. The result, for those who unfortunately develop asthma, is a severe restriction on quality of life due to reduced lung function. That means limits on recreation, play and exercise.

The Myth of Mental Illness= a controversial book
tidbit2
by tidbit2  1-30-2010    2
I suppose the world seems crazy at times and people are on guard and afraid of freaking out, loosing control, or going 'mental' or of it happening to people around them the power of empathy, compassion and conversation , talking over things and reasoning through psychological problems in a human natural way is sometimes neglected in favour of quick fixes such as prescribing drugs for every health problem I personally think that people in this field should be more rigorously tested and educated before having to deal with sensitive cases that need much care, attention, empathy, trust and compassion funny thing too that most psychiatrists seem to be men and therefore more rigid and authoritarian than a womans soft nurturing approach focus on the negative and past complaints doesn't necessarily enlighten the present state and circumstances I suppose there is a need for more compassion ,communication and engagement in society to restore faith in our common humanity

Mental illness is serious for the individual suffering the effects and for the surrounding family. Mental illness also can and usually does lead to the manifestation of physical problems as well. Many times this is how this debilitating affliction makes itself known and it is so very sad, especially when the health insurance industry refuses to acknowledge the painful procession.
