POPSComcast to cap online use The cap will be set at 250gb. If you go over that, you get a courtesy call from Comcast as a first warning. The second time that you go over, your account will be immediately suspended for an entire calendar year. People that watch movies or video's online are going to be hit hard because you can go over your daily limit in minutes. And don't forget that companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and others are offering online (cloud) storage. Some applications such as Google's http://docs.google.com/ are online and would be completely inaccessible to small business's or home offices. Plus there are X-box, Playstation, Nintendo and many other consumer boxes that require the internet to access online games, calenders, address books, and even clocks.

POPSIncome vs. Gas Prices, an Update It seems that some Americans are now spending twice as much of their household income for gasoline as they were in 1999. That is a serious number. I believe that median household income is around $48,000 right now. So those Americans are spending about $5500 a year on gasoline. To me that is a scary number. This also explains why you can no longer get a parking spot at the Tri-Rail parking lot in Delray Beach. Well if you get there before 6:30 AM I suppose you can. This does not bode well for the economy. Let's see: drive, ride the bike or give up beer?

POPSObama Turns FDR Upside Down assuming the same life expectancy. But the principle remains that as workers’ wages rise so do the taxes they pay, and so do the benefits they will get from the system. Although the formula connecting benefits to tax payments or “contributions” has evolved slightly over time, it still adheres to this basic message. Today, what Social Security terms a “low-wage” worker will pay (in present value terms) $77,197 over his or her lifetime and get $112,261 in benefits. A median-wage worker earning $42,000 will pay $171,550 and get back $187,085. A “high-wage” worker making $67,000 will pay $274,480 and get back $245,085. Sen. Obama would do away with this principle by requiring higher-end workers to pay taxes without getting any extra benefits linked to their higher contributions. This would be a big step toward turning Social Security from a contributory pension scheme into just another welfare program.

POPSBaltimore's Capital Punishment Policies Back in the good old days, Baltimore had a smaller percentage of residents living in poverty (22.7%) than the nation as a whole (27.8%), and a greater percentage of families (23.1%) earning a middle-class income of at least $44,600 in today's dollars than the rest of the country (19.1%). Today, the city has a population that is almost 50% smaller, and about 40% of families with children live at or near the federal poverty line. Among the country's 100 most populous cities, Baltimore ranks a shameful 87th on median household income. There are now at least 30,000 housing units in Baltimore that are abandoned and waiting to be demolished, while even old, upper-crust neighborhoods now have a seedy look. Property taxes are so high – as well as the strong likelihood they will soar even higher in the future – that even maintenance, no less capital improvements, are a losing proposition.
