POPSThanks MSM or Olbermann does us a solid By the end of the week, after Palin's tour de force in St. Paul, the liberal media were so befuddled that they were reduced to complaining that conservatives aren't being narrow-minded enough. Thus, Hanna Rosin--who has covered religion and politics for the Washington Post, and has also written for the New Yorker, the New Republic, and the New York Times--lamented in a piece for Slate: "So cavalier are conservatives about Sarah Palin's wreck of a home life that they make the rest of us look stuffy and slow-witted by comparison." I suppose it was ungenerous of conservatives, in our broad-mindedness and tolerance of human frailty, to have let Ms. Rosin down, just when she was counting on us to bring out the tar and feathers. But she gives us too much credit when she suggests we make the liberal media look stuffy and slow-witted. They do that all by themselves.

POPS Arrogance Watch Elevating the issue of Obama's arrogance two or three notches higher, Dana Milbank writes in Wednesday's Washington Post: Fresh from his presidential-style world tour, during which foreign Obama settled down to some presidential-style business in Washington Then, he went up to Capitol Hill to be adored by House Democrats in a presidential-style pep rally. Along the way, he traveled in a bubble more insulating than the actual president's. Traffic was shut down for him as he zoomed about town in a long, presidential-style motorcade, while the public and most of the press were kept in the dark about his activities, which included a fundraiser at the Mayflower where donors paid $10,000 or more to have photos taken with him.

POPSJay Leno Impersonates Kimmel Impersonating A Reporter Show business is all about one-upping the competition. Last week at press tour, Jimmy Kimmel posed as a reporter demanding answers from ABC President of Entertainment Steve McPherson about the fate of his late-night show. Although McPherson says he is committed to Kimmel, whose show took off with viewers this year, he also pointed out last week that there could be room for both late-night hosts at his network. Not so fast, said Graboff Monday, adding that NBC Universal is still talking to Leno about staying at the company in a different capacity. “When we made the deal with Jay four years ago, we made a long-term deal with him,” Graboff said. “We’ve been talking to him pretty much that whole time about the future beyond the ‘Tonight Show.’ We can’t force him to do something. We’re presenting him with a number of opportunities that we think will be great and we’re hoping that he eventually thinks will be great as well.”

POPSKumbaya my O! Kumbaya These values and differences will be a real shock to him when they don't roll over and acquiesce to his every desire. Kind of like a 16 year old entering the work force and being surprised that management won't let you help make the rules...

POPSMedia "Obamathon" Couric Showcases Obama Over McCain The Media Is In Love With Barack It's pretty obvious that the media has a bizarre fascination with Barack Obama. Some may even say it's a love affair. Watch the video 2:56 http://www.johnmccain.com/ It has been an Obamathon ever since the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee touched down in Afghanistan. At today's press conference in Amman, a throng of reporters recorded his every move. In total, 200 journalists requested seats on “Air Obama” -- 40 of them were accepted. The bill for the trip? About $20,000 each.

POPSThis Is So Much More "Changier" I mean Barack H. Obama is doing some pretty wacky things on this tour. Sitting in Head of state chairs, negotiating foreign policy, utilizing terrorist organizations for security, issuing dress code to the paparazzi, I mean media, hehe, speaking from historic monuments in Germany, all as if he were the actual POTUS? But this must be the best (Worst) thing yet! Of course I hedge that bet as we are only into day two, so we do have some more fun in store I'm sure. That being said, it seems our Jr Senator has decided to remove the US flag and insignia from the US aircraft he is using and opted instead for the logo for his 08 campaign? Maybe this wouldn't be such a big deal if it were not for the fact that he is on a US taxpayer excursion!

POPSObama Now Supports The Bush Policy?...And How 'Bout The Worshipping Media The press isn’t just acting like Obama is already president - they’re exceeding the sort of international coverage they have given the sitting president, who could barely buy a headline while in Africa and whose recent trip to Japan - which occurred during his birthday - went widely unnoted. But that’s the honest, balanced, unbiased mediating intelligence” of the modern day mainstream media. You do realize, don’t you, that if a GOP candidate with weak foreign policy was doing the same thing - making a “world tour” with dramatic backdrops - the press would be sneering about how the whole thing is a “stunt” meant to “deflect his inexperience.” I know you know it, but I had to say it, anyway. But hey, no bias here.

POPSkennedy assassination bill cooper 1991 This man had the truth over 17 years ago and even had the video proof. Now how in the hell does an honest media fail to spread the truth about something of this caliber. And this is just another blatant example of an obedient media in bed with two parties always willing to deceive and mislead the american public...How much longer will we tolerate this lame media and a two party government that ignores our votes and gives us candidates from the same familes again and again. Come on America are you really that stupid?

POPSObama's Chickens Come Home to Roost Here we see Obama's purpose in equating Wright to the "black community" as a whole: to criticize Wright, therefore, is to criticize blacks as such. It is inherently racist. The purpose of Obama's famous speech on race was to make Wright seem reasonable, understandable, even mainstream. The Obama campaign's hope, no doubt, was that this would make the Wright story go away. But Wright interpreted it as an invitation. If he's so understandable and mainstream, why not go on a media tour to explain himself to the world? And why not use Obama's own arguments to justify himself and browbeat his critics? All of this is why it is no use for Obama to backpedal from his association with Reverend Wright, or to denounce him now, six weeks too late. It was Obama who sought to provide the Reverend Wright with immunity from criticism--and he can't complain when the reverend tries to take full advantage of that immunity.

POPSBarack Obama's Worst Nightmare On Media Tour The poll shows Clinton beating Republican candidate John McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent, in a potential matchup, while Obama would be tied with McCain, leading 46 percent to 44 percent. Among the white voters polled, Clinton received 43 percent to McCain's 48 percent, while Obama landed only 38 percent to McCain's 51 percent. David Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist, appeared clearly worried about Wright's affect on his candidate's campaign. "We don't have any control over Reverend Wright," Axelrod told The Times of London. "There's not a thing we can do about it. "Obviously, I don't think we would have encouraged him to go on a media tour."

POPSIraqi Feel-Good Stories Prove Elusive Garrett Therolf, LAT reporter, talks about his efforts to report on good news in Iraq when he was there earlier this year. The military prevented Therolf from following-up on the army's efforts to establish a local bank branch in a Sunni Arab neighborhood. The neighborhood was too dangerous for him to enter without military guard. Therolf also pursued a story about a restaurant in Baghdad started by some Chinese nationals. They declined to be interviewed because they were scared, and they may even go back to China because of the danger. For those of you who criticize the media for focusing on the negative in Iraq, this is something you should consider.

POPSRegular or irregular changing of the guard at Kompas? Did Kompas Managing Editor Tommy serve out his tour of duty as managing editor - the paper said that it was a four year term (but observers wonder when did this policy come about); or was Tommy elbowed aside? The talk among insiders that there was a bit of a tussle among top management. Some felt hat Tommy had become too close to some personalities and was a bit too conservative. Others felt that Jacob Oetama had too big shoes for an one person to step into. The insiders also said that from now Kompas would be managed by a team rather than one person. The word "presidium" was used.
