POPSReport: 237 millionaires in Congress
Senators’ estimated median reportable worth sunk to about $1.79 million from $2.27 million in 2007. The House’s median income was significantly lower and also sank, bottoming out at $622,254 from $724,258 in 2007. But CRP’s analysis suggests that some lawmakers did well for themselves between 2007 and 2008, even as many Americans lost jobs and saw their savings and their home values plummet. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) gained about $9.2 million. Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) gained about $3 million, Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) had an estimated $2.6 million gain, and Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) gained about $2.8 million. Some lawmakers have profited from investments in companies that have received federal bailouts; dozens of lawmakers are invested in Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America. Vice President Joe Biden has often tagged himself as an original blue collar man. The CRP backs him up, putting his net worth at just $27,000.

POPSSecond Thoughts I went back and re-read what I had written. And I listened for far too long to the right wing hate machine who did what they could to crap all over Barack's big day. Did I -- and others on the left -- do the same? We are weary, weary of war. Obama is moving too slow for most of us -- but he needs to know we are with him and we stand beside him as he attempts to turn eight years of sheer madness around. Who could do that in nine months? Superman? Thor? Mitch McConnell? Instead of waiting to see what the president is going to do, we all need to be pro-active and push the agenda that we want to see enacted. on't abandon the best hope we've had in our lifetime for change. Now for the tasks ahead. We need you to do all that you promised to do. We need it. The world needs it. Fred (that's Norwegian for "Peace") ---- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O7PnvVgQvA

To which, Senator Franken fired back quoting the Constitution. "Article 1 Section 8 of our Constitution gives Congress the right to spend money for the welfare of our citizens. Because of this, Chief Justice Rehnquist wrote, 'Congress may attach conditions on the receipt of federal funds and has repeatedly employed that power to further broad policy objectives,'" Franken said. "That is why Congress could pass laws cutting off highway funds to states that didn't raise their drinking age to 21. That's why this who

POPSHow low can the Republicans go! The overall approval ratings of Congressional Republicans is 17% as a party! The Dems are taking their lumps over this chaotic time, but nowhere near the kinds of wounds the GOP are suffering. The media make it appear that all these teabaggers are rallying around the RNC and the country just loves the Beltway elites' favorite party, but that's not true at all.

POPSVideo: McConnell to HHS: Call off the speech police This gets personal. These changes will impact my Mom and millions of others. Now tell me why the Administration would not want policy holders to be informed about their health care policies?? Aren't we always instructed to read the fineprint so we'll know what we're signing on to?? I DO believe this Administration is NOT telling the truth and wants to seriously dupe our citizens. Is not telling the truth the same thing as 'lying'??

POPSNew Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor questions corporate personhood Wow. What a fantastic thing it would be to have the whole "corporate personhood" thing reexamined. Especially since "corporate personhood" arose via dictum in Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad — it was never argued as a legal matter before the court, it was merely asserted as an "oh, by the way".

POPSGOP Senators used to defend 'reconciliation' process "The fact is, all this rule of the Senate does is allow a majority of the Senate to take a position and pass a piece of legislation, support that position," said Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH), who now bemoans the idea, in 2005. "Is there something wrong with majority rules? I don't think so."

POPSPerceptions of Obama by Likely Voters "It is important to remember that the Rasmussen Reports job approval ratings are based upon a sample of likely voters. Some other firms base their approval ratings on samples of all adults. President Obama's numbers are always several points higher in a poll of adults rather than likely voters. That's because some of the President's most enthusiastic supporters, such as young adults, are less likely to turn out to vote. Other factors are also important to consider when comparing Job Approval ratings from different polling firms. For more measures of the President's performance, see Obama By the Numbers and recent demographic highlights from the tracking polls. "

POPSThe Stimulus Package I think we can safely say that the Stimulus package was political pay back for the Democratic party getting elected. Economically, it is a failure.

POPSAmerica's Whole Racist Enchilada Grande
One of the things I love about my country is it's humor. (Note: the "whole enchilada," is a common, Hispanic-flavored term meaning: the whole ball of wax (!?)...the whole messy, crazy situation.) On this clip page is a John Steward comedy video insulting a U.S. Senator (who is insulting the Hispanic woman nominated for our Supreme Court....big job). Building up his insults (like the Senator was doing to the Hispanic woman nominee), Stewart ends by calling the Senator an old lesbian." Another Senator on this approval committee strikes me as an "effeminate counterfeit Confederate." The candidate made the mistake of saying a "wise Latina," might make a better judicial judgement than while male. Negroes (according to Richard Nixon) make terrible spies while Jews are born spies. (this came up). So we have blatantly waded in to every racist attitude imaginable. White people appear Very Touchy about being treated inferior. A court case of such "reverse discrimination," ha

POPSGOP gives Cheney green light Despite what's been reported all over the weekend's media, here's a little more balance. It's very difficult to trump experience, insight, knowledge of world affairs, and decades of intelligence concerning the events unfolding. Cheney has more discernment/wisdom in his little pinkie than Obama in his entire Administration. Too bad they don't sit down and have a nice, loooooooong chat.

POPS Friends, Colleagues Remember Jack Kemp 1935 ~ 2009 released the following statement: "Jack fought the good fight all his life. He exemplified for me the best of public service. He was a man of dedicated selflessness, and a man of conviction. His courage in the face of adversity inspired all who knew him. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell also expressed his condolences through a statement on the passing of Kemp. "He championed free market principles that improved the lives of millions of Americans and helped unleash an entrepreneurial spirit that all of us still benefit from today. Jack was a leading voice for a strong national defense, civil rights, and any other policy that empowered people. Whether as a quarterback, a congressman, or a cabinet secretary, his life was defined by vision and by a firm commitment to the service of others.
